Walgreens Overage on Almay mascara!! through 11/7/09

The Almay mascara is suppose to be B1G1 50% off however the One Coat Mascara is actually ringing up B1G1 FREE! I bought 8 this morning, got 4 FREE and then used the coupon in the November coupon book for $4 off Almay One Coat Mascara. It took $4 off 8 times.

8 x $6.99 = $55.92
minus FREE ones 4 x $6.99 = $27.96
minus $4 coupon 8 x $4.00 = $32.00
Total - $4.04 OVERAGE

Luckily I had some candy in my order and I didn't go into the negative.

I went to another store and bought some more to see if it was working there too, and it was!!!!

I didn't try any of the $7.99 Almay One Coat Mascara to see if they worked, I didn't want to push my luck. Maybe someone else will let us know. :smile:

We have success in Milwaukee. In addition to what was listed, blackest black is a go - cashier and manager weren't very happy that I asked for a coupon book that they hadn't stocked yet, but the sign ON the mascara said to ask for a book for the $4 coupon, at which point, I figured they must be around there somewhere ;)

Got 4 mascaras and a glade thingie - the 4.99 one with 2 scents in it for 2.XX - thanks so much for this find, it is that time of year when I restock the makeup stash :)

I made the mistake on the 2nd Walgreens I hit and got the 7.99 mascara and got a few items to cover my $4. overage and the end result I owe 8.03 I didn't say anything because when I layed 8 mascara on the counter he picks up an ad and looks thru it, I suppose wondering why I had so many of them. He scans them all and then I gave him the coupon, he sees that it took $32. off so he scrutinized the coupon like you wouldn't beleive. He says I have to call the managaer over and they wisper to each other about the coupon and comes back and says " I can did it this one time" Yah Yah Yah just give me my bag so I can go to the next store:giggle2:

make sure the mascara's you are grabbing are the 4 oz....the older style ones...not the newer slim ones that are like 3.75 oz....the 4oz ones worked today as did the 4oz double pack of waterproof ones (the 2 pack of the non waterproof ones did not work )

This worked for me about an hour ago on the west coast. I bought two of the $6.99 ones and two of the $7.99 ones in a single transaction at two separate stores. It didn't count as a coupon at all for me. I bought some other stuff and used some RR's I needed to roll. I had coupons for all of the other items I bought and was still able to use 6 RR's.

The $4 coupon is a Walgreens coupon, so it doens't count against your coupon total at all.

First, I forgot to take my cheat sheet with the UPC's. Then after oh 5 or 6 or 7 Wags employees were looking for the IVC booklets which weren't out, were never heard of, or gee they expired on 10/31 and various other comments, lol, someone actually found a stack of the November ones in the back.
So I grabbed what turned out to be the wrong mascara (or it isn't working here anyway) 77379 13713.

I just wanted to share that I bought One Coat Triple Effects Waterproof last year and it is not a good mascara so if it is part of the deal avoid that one. It's irritating, clumps and smudges. Now the Thickening One Coat Waterproof I've used on and off throughout the years I like.

I tried to get 3 One Coat mascara with the bonus makeup remover and one Pure Blends foundation. The $4 IVC beeped and the register just wouldn't take it. The cashier said she could enter $4 off maunally but not $12 off all 3. So I asked if we could try the non bonus mascaras and the register took the $4 coupon. Oh, and they were ringing up BOGO free here. I wasn't counting on that since it seems to be mixed, so I was happy. :)

I had this happen too. I had just enough stuff to cover the overage and then at the register I spotted the double packs and got excited. The cashier checked them for me and they worked, so I added some of those to my order. When I looked at my receipt later, I noticed the coupon had taken off for 2 less items than it should have and my total before tax was $3.97.

I figured since I didn't have anything else to cover that overage, it didn't take off for the last two. :sad:

Is the ringing up as BOGO varying from store to store within a certain area?
I went to 3 stores and at all it rang up BOGO. Then it was almost midnight, and at the last store, it rang up bogo50% off or something, and the $4 coupon didn't take off for all 6 of the mascaras I got. I got 2 of each of 3 different kinds, one of those kinds being a bonus pack with makeup remover. I'm thinking it didn't take off for the bonus pack becuz the UPC# wasn't included for that coupon. (It only took off $16) I didn't do the deal at all since it didn't ring up BOGO, and i WISH I had done a price check to see if it would ring up BOGO! But now I'm wondering if they're stopping it from ringing up BOGO all over, or if it's just at that one store. It seems like all the stores in my area would be the same: either BOGO or bogo50%.

The True Blends = 5 RR, One coat was ringing up bogo as of yesterday and does not produce a RR and yes you need to spend another 1.01 and use the Nov Q for 4. HTH.

I did purchase the double packs #412 at the top (went to several stores only 1 had them) and the one with bonus eye liner # 421 both gave the 4.00 off all.
I hope someone will post back that it is still working today I may go to another store at lunchtime.

Also what I did is when I went to the first Wags I brought 2 up front and asked if they could scan them both and give me a total so that I can see how much they were. BTW, the MOD has to be called in for the void.
...I am guessing that you want to fly below the radar and not get the MOD (Manager On Duty) involved in the transaction but other times you want to do a void because everything is all messed up.

A void gets you back to square one instead of trying to 'save a sinking ship' and risking a wasting of your precious coupons, RRs, etc.

I find that a void is more efficient than a subtraction or an addition to a subtotal.

I don't think the overage is the issue. I did this a few times in a few different combinations with plenty to cover overage and every single time one of the $4 did not come off... not sure what the issue is.

Finally found some PB foundation & PB mascara and fully expected it to be BOGO50% as the whole display had these stickers posted and this is what the ad states.

Products rang up:
ALM P/BLND IVRY 9.99 BGLP
ALM P/B MASC 6.99 BGLP

After clerk 1 scanned the mascara, I stopped her and asked why the mascara wasn't ringing up 50% off. She sent someone to check on the display (no flyer handy). Clerk 2 came up, having checked the display, and hit a button on the register. Mascara price came off (ringing up FREE).

Maybe Clerk 1 didn't hit sub-total and that's why the mascara price didn't adjust at first? Can anyone testify to that?
Anyway, now having only $9.99 to cover instead of the $13.48 I was expecting...my planned RR redemption went awry and I ended up paying $2.70ish oop.
Not bad, I still "made money" having only paid out $8 in RR and earning $15 RR, but I was hoping to not pay anything oop. :)

So, should I assume the lesser priced item will work itself out to either 50% or FREE after the clerk hits subtotal?

Between trying to not be greedy AND wanting to make sure it worked I only bought 4 packs at each store. Ended up with 12 mascaras and 2 boxes of Coffee Nips for $0.54! (Gotta LOVE Oregon and no sales tax!).

Hitting the same stores on my way home again and off to lunch now to find a few other stores... :biggrin:

Oh wow just saw this deal today!!! Got a bunch today but when I went to another store, the cashier freaked when she saw the coupon come off the total (bought 10 almay's, so $40 was value of coupon). She called the manager who gave me a hard time and said they aren't going to get reimbursed the $40 but are only going to get $4 because that is what the coupon states since it reads only 1 per customer per purchase. Didn't feel like fighting anymore and there was a long line so I told them to keep it. But what should I say as my defense. I mean it does say 1 per customer per purchase. Any ideas?

I'm up to 50 mascaras (combination of single and double packs).

A store I hit yesterday is still B1G1 but, they changed so the coupon does not apply on the free items. :sad: :wink7: Got my 2 trial size Pantenes and $2 RR.

Next store was still B1G1 and coupon applies to all items. Cashier was great! "You have the coupon don't you?" She knew what it was doing and said she even told management what was happening, but they haven't fixed it. I got all double packs, 10 @ $6.99. Grabbed 2 Pantene trial sizes, 2 Glade Sense-n-spray (ugh these stink!), and a LED Tap light for my car. Only paid $1.30 for all (had coupons for the Glades and Pantene). All items are going in my stockpile sale this weekend! :biggrin:

Making sure I don't buy out all the mascaras.... only buying 6 - 10 at a time if they have the stock.

Still working at Springfield MO and Nixa stores tonight =) It was 50% at the Sunshine store on Tuesday but Im not sure if it was *fixed* or was always correct. I've had no problems or questioning of using the IVC on all items, but have had issues with the non standard packaging ones ( bonuses). Cashier in Nixa pulled my RRs out of the machine and declared * and you got 15 back - Awesomeness!* and she wasnt a young lady either =) I needed a fun cashier moment this week. Thankyou!

I did this deal on 11/3. One Coat Mascara rang up at $7.49 B1G1 50% off so $3.23 for two which isn't horrible, but not great either- especially with the Pure Blends deal. Shoot, I just got the two pack of Revlon, or whatever they were pushing a few weeks ago, for $3!

I heard that the stores got an e-mail about this (maybe it was only a district thing) but any store can change the prices in their computer so my guess is that the stores that are aware of this mistake and "care" have fixed it in their stores computer/register but it has not been fixed nation wide.

(8) double pack mascaras and (1) Dial soap 3 pk ($1.99 and gives $1.00 RR) = Paid .20 cents and got the Dial $1 RR. So got paid to take the mascara and soap home.

Did it a second time but this time it was short taking off the $4 coupon on one of the mascaras for some reason...weird but I paid $4.20 and manager gave me $4 back in cash and also got my $1 RR for Dial. Woo Hoo!! Gettin paid left and right!!

Yes it will...just make sure your covering the overage from the mascara.

Oh and make sure they are in fact ringing up Buy one get one free at the store you go to.

The b1g1 worked for me yesterday which I ended up with 10 for about $1.00 including tax all together so I am not complaining I went back today and they told me that they had to adjust the price to 50% because the computer was wrong. I told them never mind however I find it funny that when the computer is wrong in their favor the computer is NEVER wrong. The other half of the time when the computer overcharges the customer it somehow is the customer's fault.

Oh how I hit the jackpot tonight. A fully stocked Almay mascara wall with the double packs. I couldnt contain myself. I went the register to make sure they were still ringing bogo. Sure enough they were. I knew I only wanted 8 so that I could get DH's Gillette body wash and deoderant for only tax.

Get to the register the cashier scans all and I add a piece of halloween candy to offset the .04 overage....I give cashier the gillette q that says buy a deoderant get a bodywash free and then hands her the November book with the almay q in it and she says whats this for. I said I bought the one coat mascara. She scans it and it says 32.00 off and the total came to 4 dollars and sum change and she said wait a minute. Oh good grief:rolleyes24: is what I was thinking. She said it took off too much. I said it took off what is was suppose too its the register (lol to myself). She was confused. I said well I got 8 mascaras and the coupon is for 4.00 off so that is 32.00. But you didnt pay for all 8. I could see where this was heading. She calls the MOD and she is telling him the dreaded words a unknowledgeable person wants to hear. She got 8 mascaras for FREE if she uses the coupons that way:rolleyes24:. I explained that I did not do anything but give the cashier the coupon which is your coupon and the register did that and I think the register knows whats its doing especially when I am using my coupons in a perfectly legit way and it just beeps and beeps and beeps. We go by the register in that instance. Well the manager says well I dont think you should be allowed to use a coupon on a free item. I said thats okay you can keep it I already have 16 and walked away:giggle2:

Needless to say that that wasnt my regular Wags and I dont think I will be going to that one again:giggle2:

well, i wouldn't have walked away

1. customer is always right
2. its wags policy to give it to the person for the shelf price/ad price
3. they are the ones who put that Q out there and if wags didn't want it to ring up that way, they would have changed it early on at the BEGINNING OF THE WEEK
4. you used what they gave you the ad, the sale and the Q = customer is right :BigHand:
