Tonight I was shorted $162 in coupons by the cashier. I hadn't been to the commissary in 2 months, so I had a boatload of coupons. I used over 100 $1 coupons, 5 $3.75(dove skin revitalizer), 2 $10 coupons(b3save10),
etc. AS the cashier was scanned the coupons, I sort of watched, noticed her bending over the cash register several times & I even asked her if she was sick, but I was talking to the bagger whose Mom and Brother are the same ages of my Mom & brother, with the same health issues, except mine died this year while his are still living. When the total came up, I told the bagger it was about $100 higher than I expected. I thoroughly checked my receipt when I got to my car, and promptly returned to the commissary to find my missing coupons. Luckily the night manager knew me, and started checking for the lost coupons that I said were missing. She kept calling the cashier over, who would drop off handfuls of coupons she didn't scan. Finally I was so angry when she came over again, I asked her where the coupons were that she didn't use. She said, "They're around." Where? "Just around". I asked her if she threw them away, she said "No, I put them in my drawer, I just didn't use them because they wouldn't scan." I asked her to bring all of her coupons over and proceeded to pick out all of the coupons I used-showing the $162 shortage. The night manager told her she is supposed to enter the freebies and any coupon that doesn't scan manually, and she said, "No you don't. It means she didn't buy the product." UNBELIEVABLE!!! I told the customer service rep and the manager that I would be filing a complaint with Deca, the Base commander and this cashier should be reprimanded and relieved of her job. If she did it to me, she's done it to others. She was so arrogant and she could have cared less. I almost lost $162... I'm still mad. Plus I wasted 70 minutes trying to get this corrected with everyone staring at me like I was a freak. However, I did announce very loudly several times that the cashier shorted me $162 by not scanning my coupons, but the cashier just laughed, and never apologized.

Wow...sorry for your bad experience. I hand the coupons to the cashier one at a time so I know if there are any issues and if a coupon gets missed, it's my fault. Yes, the cashiers get irritated with me but oh well!

Wow not only did she not give you the credit, she kept the coupon too? Could be considered theft?? And if that manager has cashiers like that maybe they aren't the ones in control the cashiers are? Goodness.

What is up with the commissary customer service lately?? Maybe all of us should complain to DECA. Good deals or not, I rarely go to the commissary anymore.

You definitely need to contact DECA and when you do, can you send me the contact info via a PM? I want to keep it handy as I've had issues at our commissary too. (not nearly as bad as your situation). The attitude of most of the cashiers are just horrible.

I've learned that complaining works wonders. If you don't want to start out at the store manager, make sure you cc him whatever you send higher up the chain so that he knows it's coming.

I had a complaint and emailed it to our store manager and we now have a pretty good email repore (never met in person).

That is inexcusable what happened to you. I'm sure they have dealt with her a little more harshly since the matter was taken care of. It isn't store policy to really punish people in front of customers.

I do have to wonder how she was going to explain the "overage" of her drawer at the end of the shift. She probably had not even thought that far ahead. Sounds like she was following the path of least resistance by not figuring out how to enter the unscanned coupons.

needless to say, very poor customer service attitude from the cashier.

i suggest first trying to resolve at the lowest level possible which would be the store director.

I would defiantly complain to the higher ups! I went to the Maxwell Commissary today and watched the cashier like a hawk! Apparently dtsalvadors experience made an impression on my cashier. When I casually mentioned that I had heard (not naming this website) there was an incident the other day with coupons not being scanned the cashier told me they were there the night it happened and they just shook their head about the cashier involved.

I would have been extremely upset (I get upset over a couple of bucks!!). Definitely complain! Once a commissary cashier said "I get sick and tired of people cheating the commissary using coupons" to me. Every one of my coupons was legitimate and that was years before I even knew about overage! They are the absolute worst at customer service!

On a positive note, Quantico has gotten better. Even gives overage now with no problems. Went yesterday and every one of my coupons went through and was not even cheated out of a dollar!

You have just inspired me to go ahead and complain about my commissary not scanning coupons. I was upset over $5 and change but your situation is SERIOUS. In another thread there were some great tips:

1. Know the value of the coupons.
2. Know how many coupons your are using.
3. Hand them in small quantities (four at a time, or like one poster said....one at a time.)

Oh....AND...it makes me mad that they are going to go ahead and send those off to the manufacturer for reimbursement when the coupon wasn't technicall used!! That is STEALING.
