Got this at the Ablemarle Rd store yesterday with the Sweet Sue Any chicken .75/1 ~ The coupon scanned but did not double when I questioned it the CSR said about a month ago they started with if it makes the item free we only take face value and will not double it.

Just wondering if anyone else has gotten this?

:thanks7:

Hadn't heard that, but I've not used any doubles that make the item free. My store only doubles up to .60.

I tried a week or 2 ago to use the .75 on any Crest toothpaste coupon and because it was B1G1 each one would have been free. They told me it would make the item free so they could double the coupon. I was not happy...

NEVER, EVER.........it almost makes you think Food Lion has already taken them over with new policies to get Bi-Lo out of bankruptcy and keep them out.

I had an internet coupon .55/1 fresh express salad. The salad was on sale for .88.
No overage which suits me fine, but the coupon would not scan, clerk scanned it and item was free. I did buy a couple bananas at the same time, I don't like zero or negative balances, the clerks assume they made a mistake and really start looking for why.

I'd shop so that you are buying other items, when you expect some items to be free. This way you have a total cost at the end, and you are buying something versus walking out with everything free. Too obvious, though your coupon was the proper one, not expired, and up to now, they have always doubled ALL coupons up to .99.
IF this is a new policy and will be system wide, it is a VERY negative event.
Bi-Lo is near the top of my list of 6 area store chains, Bi-Lo and HT hanging around there at the top of the list.

My stores only doubles up to .60 but I have always gotten an item free if the coupon doubled. They normally just double up to the sales price and won't allow overage. I think your store is not being nice. Can you try another store or is this your only one?

I am sure we will be seeing some new changes in policies and other stuff since Food Lion is already in stores making notations and measurements. It will be a sad..sad..day:sad:

My Total was still $20.xx without them doubling. I bought quite a bit of produce and I think the sweet sue was the only coupon I used and only four of them. CSR was nice, but as you know it's frustrating. I think I will contact Corp and see what they have to say.

I guess the question that should be asked is has anyone THIS WEEK had this happen. I haven't been to BiLo in 2 or 3 weeks and as I learned with Walgreens (freakin RR!), things change quickly.

a lil different than this, but last night i got 2 propel waters at 2/$1. i used a .50 Q thinking it would double and they'd both be free. no double and when i asked, she said nope bc it only cost .50 anyway. so i think from now on, i will scan the groceries, then the Q's and then my card (on all my orders, was only doing that before on BOGO items that were FAQ)....that way they have to double them.

I have never had my coupons double like you are saying. They only do the value of the ONE item not the accumalitve like sometimes at HT.

The perfect example is the Sweet Sue that started the discussion. Mine Q are always for $.75/1 and broth cost $1.05, I will buy 10 at a time (since they double 10 like Q), each Q only doubles to $.30 making the item free (atleast the last time I did it).

This will only work if you coupon is .50/2 and is coded correctly off of 2. If it says .50/1 it is irrelevant if the sale is 2/$1. Technically they are only 50¢ each and the coupon cannot be used on the 2nd. The 2/$1 is just marketing geniousry to make the consumer "Think" they must buy both.:rolleyes24:

As above my Sweet sue has always doubled up to the purchase price, but not this last time. I haven not gone to another store yet to see what happens. Regardless 44¢/ea isnt too bad if it doesnt double :shrug7:

I was actually wondering if something had changed recently. My store doubles up to $.60 and up until about a week and a half ago if I bought an item for say $1.00 with a $.55 coupon it would do the $.55 then another $.44 making the item $.01. The time before last when I went in I was buying an item that was $2.19 BOGO, so $1.10 each and used $.55 coupons, the coupons didn't double (and I had used the same coupon previously when the item was on sale for a higher price and it did double) so a manager was called over and she gave me the "it would make it free so it is face value" line. I didn't end up buying the items because the manager was so rude (a story for another time). Then the last time I went I got some $1 items with $.50 coupons but went through the self check and they wouldn't scan so the cashier manually put them in and doubled them manually. Does anyone know if they have changed the policy?

I cannot for the life of me remember what I used a .55c coupon on last week on a $1 item. It doubled into overage which kind of shocked me. They usually do not allow that @ my Bilo. *shrug*

It depends on how the coupon is coded. I had some 4C $.50/1 ANY coupons that doubled to the full value on the Breadcrumbs when they were only $.85 each.

actually, i have had it work on different items...it just depends on the coding and the store....

my last three trips to grocery stores tho, i had to give Q's to the cashiers at uscan bc they beeped (had correct item/qty, they just beeped) and it beeped for them too, they just threw the Q in their basket. i had to ask them to get a mgr. with a key to enter the Q. do they really think that if we took the time to buy the Q, clip it and drag it to the store with us that we will just forget to have them take off the $?? :shrug7:

They just don't get that to us that $.25-$1 means a lot! What they don't understand is that $.25 here and there actually add up! I have gone to CS to get my $.05 bag credit when the total was $.20! The person I am used to dealing with at my CS seems to get it, she says it all adds up in the end. It is nice to have someone on your side.

I have had this issue for the past few weeks at Bi-Lo. I called corporate today because it's just getting rediculous. I was told that if an item was even on sale, the coupon should not double. I have had cashiers take my coupon off my bill and re-do it so it won't double.
