I got an e-mail saying the new Market District in Robinson Township is opening November 6. Does anyone know if they are closing the other Giant Eagle next to Staples or are they having them both out there? This is not my normal store but it is a backup for me if they are out sale items at my usual store.

My neighbors are management for GE and involved with opening this Market District. According to them, this store will be in addition to other stores. Time will tell. It is supposed to have all the usually GE products plus many specialty items. I bet their prices will be inflated.
BTW- this baby is costing 40 million to build!

Their prices probably will be inflated; I occasionally stop at the Shadyside Market District store on my way home from work, and their prices for several items that I planned to purchase were higher than at my usual store (Waterworks Mall). For example, this summer when the Ball Park Franks were BOGO, the Angus Beef franks were 4.98 at Waterworks and $5.39 at Market District; several weeks ago, the BC cake mixes were $1.00 at Waterworks and $1.35 at Market District, etc. They do carry a lot of specialty and ethnic items, but I've noticed that they don't carry as many varieties of certain things that the regular stores carry...they only had two varieties of the TLC cereal bars the last time they were on sale, none of which my family likes, so I didn't waste my two good coupons on them.
Anyway, I'm sure it's worth checking it out, especially on opening day; they'll probably be giving out a lot of free samples, etc.

Just got a coupon packet in the mail for this store only. A couple free and a few other decent coupons.
DH sells to the other store and said that that store will be closing. They are taking no products to the new store from the old one. Everything will be brand new.
He's been in the new places and said it it gawgeous!

I was in Robinson GE today and there is a TON of empty shelves. We had dinner with my BIL (a manager at my GE) and he said that he had heard they are closing the Robinson GE because of the Market District Opening. That would definitely explain their empty shelves. It did not seem like a pleasant GE to shop at.

Yep...DH was there last night working his product out. The shelves are very empty. No more orders are going into that store as of last week.
Heads up...they have coupons in a mailer and then in the sunday paper for items there in the prepared foods section.

Sunday's South Hills edition of the Post Gazette had a flier for the Robinson Market District with four $2/$5 coupons for the Bakery, prepared foods and two other places. Also, GE MD brand bulk foods, olive oils and vinegars will be 10% off. Since this stuff rarely goes on sale (and their 3 leaf Balsamic Vinegar is great), I'll be stopping by. Just not to see Ted Allen on Saturday.. that guy annoys me!

I got a postcard in the mail saying they are closing 11/4. I really liked shopping at this store as a backup and will be sad to see it go. Funny thing is this store just opened 11 years ago in Oct right when dh and I got married. (we used to live right by there) I am sure the new one will be "nice" but I already don't care for the really big stores and this one will be huge!
