Hi, my name is Kristie and I'm from Northern Indiana. I've been married for 6 years and have a beautiful 2 year old daughter. I came to hear about couponing from a lady that is teaching our Financial Peace University class. It intrigued me at first so I started reading here and there about it and quickly found myself wanting to be able to coupon with the best of them. I realize it's a science and it will take time and practice but I'm really looking forward to saving the money to help our budget as we get out of debt and also so it can free up some funds to do extra things we want to do.
The whole husband thing comes from the fact that he never thought "I'd be the type" lol and also for the fact that after my first trip, I had an adrenaline rush and he just about died laughing. Hurt the high a little, but not enough to deter me from continuing.

You go Kristie, let em all laugh at you. That's kind of how I look at it. I tell people I am going to the bank to cash all my rebate checks while others are going tothe bank to get loans!! LOL. Start slowly and stick to it it wil come naturally. Dh will see results and may be he will even help you out on some of the really great deals that come along.

Hi, Kristie! Welcome...you will have many highs to come, and unfortunately many bummed trips, but the highs outway those by far. You can share here your excitement without any laughing--only a fellow couponer knows the true meaning of that "happy dance" when coming home with bags of stuff for pennies on the dollar.

PS: Seeing your post brought back some sweet memories. We met a gal years ago named Kristie from Northern Indiana--she stayed with us for two weeks while a group she was a part of put on a program at our church.

It will take time and practice. Just read lots on here and ask lots of questions.
Before you know it you'll be saving $ on groceries with the best of us!

And when your DH says you're crazy, you can say "like a fox" ;-)

Welcome to HCW!

My hubbie thinks the same thing but when I bring home food, other items we need and it fills the back of the van up for $120 and I mean over filled he changes his mind until the next time I am going out the door with my stack of coupons but when i come home he is happy with my haul and what i paid. I think he jsut like to pick on me.......this week 12 snuggle's for $3.63 he did not laugh at that one time....

My hubby is the same way! But he has learned we can get stuff free or I get paid to walk out the door with stuff! My stepdaughter who is 16 the other day was rolling her eyes while i checked out because I was holding up the line! She doesnt roll her eyes though when she needs hairspray and I have a ton of it and paid nothing for it!

It really is a high when you can walk out of the store having only paid a little bit or walking otu with them paying you to take it! There will be mistakes as you go but learn from them!

You go girl!! My DH was kind of the same at first until he saw my savings each week. On one trip where he went with me to help he was amazed. His comment as we walked out the door was "Did we just steal this stuff?" I think I paid under $20 for almost $100 worth of groceries.
Now when he goes with me he keeps an eye out for blinkies, peelies, WTs, etc.

Welcome Kristie!!! I grew up in Indy, but now live in TN. You are gonna love it here, and your hubby will be on board and bragging about you in no time!!!!! First few times he comes to tell you he is out of something (shaving cream, soap, shampoo, razor) and you reach back and have another on hand right away....he will be putty in your hands!!! :giggle2:
If I can help in any way please let me know!! :wavehi:

He'll appreciate it sooner or later. Some take longer than others. Make sure that you stockpile things that he uses and likes...if they're a good price, of course! That way, he'll "get it" faster!

My husband has been on board since the start. I found this site, read everything I could, and started trading and saving. I told him that I was doing it, and showed him some examples of what others had done at the stores where we shop. I told him...we're flat broke, and neither of us can find a job. This is the best thing I can do right now to help us through this! He had no problem at all with that logic!

Welcome!!! I started just like you about a year ago and now I can't imagine ever going back to the way things were. Keep a spreadsheet to help you see your savings add up.
Once they see

Yearly Totals
Spent $2,510.86
Saved $11,389.64
Percent Saved 82%

people will quit laughing and start asking how you do it.

And I agree with PP once your honey goes from having to say "Honey can you pick up X,Y, Z tomorrow?" to "May I go shopping in your 'stockpile store' ?" You know you have them just as hooked as you!!

Welcome and have a blast!

Welcome to HCW...most hubby's come around. Hang in there with us and ask lots of questions and you will be a pro before you know it.

The high you get from couponing is better than any drug, and couponing is the only hobby that saves you money. I often refer to my favorite traders as my drug dealers. LOL

Welcome! I grew up in Northern Indiana too. And my folks still live up there.

Your hubby will come around it takes a while. But when I was able go cut our grocery, cleaning and HBA budget by almost $2000 for the year..mine now helps me shop! LOL.

Just remember its ok to make mistakes, we all do it. Even us "seasoned" couponers. I used to get so frustrated with myself when I first started for not getting the best deal. Now I know it just happens sometimes. And its ok to miss a deal now and then.

Welcome Welcome Welcome! Everyone here is super helpful and nice. At first I thought this whole couponing thing was crazy myself til I started reading what some people were getting for FREE!! My husband still thinks I'm a little crazy as I walk into the store with my binder of coupons and all. As you start showing them all the stuff that you didn't have to pay anything to get they don't think it's so crazy then. Welcome.

Hi Kristie! So glad you have decided to jump in and join the fun!

A lot of people are skeptical when you start couponing, but most of them come around when you share your amazing deals and they see the positive changes in your finances!

This site is awesome, I have learned so much from the wonderful folks on here! Don't be afraid to ask questions, we were all newbies once.

Welcome! :wavehi: I'm new too~ only about 2 wks now. My DH made a snide remark when I told my mom I got my candy at CVS this week. He said, "Oh, you spent 25 to save 5?" I said, "No, I spent 20 and got 29 dollars worth." He still rolled his eyes. I think both our hubbys will come around when they realize we are actually saving them money!

I said, "No, I spent 20 and got 29 dollars worth."

Ok, I just realized I said that amount wrong! I spent 15 and got about 24 dollars worth. I really need another cup of coffee!

Give him time...just keep track of your savings and keep him posted. I started this 1 and 1/2 months ago, and i've used over $400 worth of coupons.from just little pieces of paper !!! I've never had my pantry so stocked! I think others think of couponing as saving a quarter here and there, but there really is a science to it. I've been trying to tell my family and co-workers about this when they complain about money, but i don't think they fully understand...oh, and i know what you mean by the "rush"! I get absolutely giddy---i shake and look at my receipt, like 20 times!

:wavehi: When you all are able to afford the things he wants more readily, he will change his mind. My hubby wants things that I used to turn my nose up to like video games for a 36 year old when our 15 year old towels were falling apart. Now that we can more readily afford his wims, he loves couponing. He even regularly brags about me to friends and coworkers.

Also, when we gets bored with his "toys," I also sell them on ebay to help toward the new "toys."
