12 rolls of paper towels, 24 rolls of TP, 10 bottles of shampoo, 12 bottles conditioner, 16 cans tomatoes, 6 boxes of spaghetti, 12 boxes cereal and the rest of my stockpile is not excessive
(He doesn't know that next week's addition will be 20 bottles of ketchup, 16 bags of OreIda, and more)

:giggle2: When my husband realized we'd never run out of ketchup again (an event which was catastrophic in my house) he finally quit complaining about my couponing! It helps to show him how much money you're saving too. I translated our grocery savings to paying off our vehicles faster, which was really motivating to my DH too. Keep couponing until he gets it!! :BigHand:

I think you need to go to some of the other sites, specifically SD, and walk him through the pictures in their stockpile thread, and then he will see that you aren't crazy at all!
Your best bet is to make some sort of agreement where you get a certain space to do whatever you want with. My GF and I are buying a house, and the deal is that I get one of the bedroom all to myself to do whatever deals I want (so now I wont have to keep hiding Glade candles in our bookcases!).

I'll tell him!! lol
It didn't take my DH too long to figure it out - but I must say he has his own hobbies (like collecting 5billion hockey cards that have over run our bedroom!) so he doesn't complain much considering my 'hobby' saves us tons of $$$ and his costs us tons of $$$. So I figure we're even! lol

Tell him to close his eyes and think of England.
The money that you would have spent on paper towels and toilet paper next week, you are spending on ketchup and hash browns.
It's not that you are hording, you are shopping differently. You are buying all the items that your household consumes within a year when they are the best price.
It's the people that shop for the week that waste their money.

You can NEVER have enough paper products!
+
With no basement and the two car detached garage filled to the gills, I have resorted to putting non perishables inside 125 liter (pensez metric, 33 gallon) plastic garbage cans on the outdoor patio.
It is amazing how much one can can hold (something like 100+ Glade spray cans).
+
Bottom line ...
You can pay full price or you can pay a lot less when an item:
#1) Goes on sale.
- AND / OR -
#2) You have a money saving coupon to boot.
- AND / OR -
#3) If there is a rebate.
- AND / OR -
#4) Double FuelPerks.
- AND / OR -
#5) A Catalina coupon is printed.

I accomplished that with pizza rolls and cheesy pretzels LOL I told him pretty soon all he will like is meat & veggies lol Of course my DK's aren't complaining at all they love it! :wink7:

He didn't grow up stockpiling-I did. I know the deals and shop for them. The times that I couldn't because money was tight and my stock depleted, he was happy to see the shelves half stocked in our basement but a few minutes later asked if we had (fill in the blank) and we didn't.
I asked him last week if I was laid up for a week and couldn't shop or cook-would he be able to and the answer was no-very quickly.
BTW, I'm the breadwinner in the house, have always couponed, work 40+ hours a week and am responsible for the bills. Right now, he's laid off, but he does help with the yardwork(all of it) and cleaning (about 75% of it).
His parents come over and his father tells his mother-"They've got a store down there"
I finally have some wiggle room in my budget-save some and spend some on me-with deals of course.
He's seen the stockpile pics and thinks those people are "crazy."
When the weather's bad, I don't want to go out unless I have to. And when I come home from work in the morning, I need to have everything I need for dinner that night.
He likes to take advantage of it but doesn't understand it. He's also given away to charities sometimes 75% of my cereal or canned soups-at one time and not tell me. I tend to give a variety of my stockpile-I know what I have excess of, what will be on sale again, and what I will use in the near future.

My family never stockpiled while I was growing up. We always lived paycheck to paycheck and I don't ever remember there being a coupon used at the grocery store. If we ran out of something it always had to wait until payday to get more. I remember our grocery bills being well over $100 just to get what was needed for the week whether it was one sale or not.
It took me some time to learn how to combine the coupons, sales, oyno, rebates, etc to do what we all do now. I could easily go for 3 month or better without stepping foot in a grocery store other than for bread, eggs, milk. At first I started just stocking my house and my grandmas, but now I also keep my mom in the deals as well. She helps out by doing my Kuhns shopping or an occassional Costco run.
I enjoy shopping like this and being able to reach into the cupboard for anything I may need. It is very rare that DH will ask for something that we do not have and generally then it is something off the wall he is asking for.
He doesn't understand the whole stockpile thing but has learned to appreciate it. His family never stockpiled either and his mom spends a ridiculous amount at the grocery store. She does us the occassional coupon but rarely combines coupons and sales to make a better deal. If they want it she buys it. It truely surprises me since they have almost always been a single income family. I was behind her in the check out line one day and about fell over when I heard her total. She spent in one week for 2 people, what I spend in a month for 5 people and 2 households.
My other grandmother is another one that absolutely floors me with her grocery bills. In August she sepnt $1200 on groceries for 2 people. She did stock up on meat but my goodness....
Sorry about the lengthy post but it is nice to "talk" to people who understand. My husband listens to me and then asks, why I care...

This is my husband too! He makes fun of me for having over 70 deodorants, 50 toothpastes and all sorts of paper products, yet never ONCE does he have to add those things to a shopping list because we always have them. I do donate a good portion of my HBA stockpile but I don't really keep a ton of food stockpiled unless it's something with a long expiration date. We only have two adults here in the house and we eat mostly fresh foods so there aren't a ton of foods we need to stockpile.

I wish some one could make my DH(for lack of a better term) understand. I am still criticized for doing this even when he stood in line with me and watched a grocery bill go from 125.00 down to under 20.00. All he said was "But did we need all that?"
This coming from a person who even tho I have 100 rolls of paper towels down in the basement still went out and bought more(and no he did not use a coupon).
I have just decided to do what I do (regardless of what he says) because when he yells about all the toilet paper I just ask him "Do you plan on not using it one day? Because I don't and since it was FREE there is no such thing as TOOOOO MUCH!!!!
I agree that not everyone understands what we do. Alot of people laugh at me....and I think that's ok...because I know in the end it's me getting the last laugh when they are paying full price and I pay next too nothing!!!!!

I for one think there is too much you can buy of, but i just limit myself. My husband sounds like yours. He thinks that me having 20 jars of PB, 10 jars of Picante, 15 jars Ragu, is way too much. In my mind i am thinking that some will last only 2 months for us and others will last a year like the PB.
My husband just tells me he is going to the general store when he is looking for something. Makes me want to smack him but never would, lol. I can't complain because he is driving me to all these places to chase the deals.

I am lol'ing here because my husband and I have that same conversation! :giggle2: I am always telling him to let me know when he decides to stop using toilet paper and I'll stop buying it!
He doesn't understand the concept of continuing to look for deals when we have a stockpile. Now I'm at the point where I only buy things that are free or have some sort of a rebate/premium offer that makes them worth it. Plus, I love that I can donate so much stuff to food pantries and church food drives and it doesn't cost me anything except for sales tax on the HBA stuff. With three young children we don't really have a ton of extra money to spend on charity, so I love being able to help without hurting my own family's bottom line.

That is basically where I am at too - only free or insanely cheap is brought home now. And I too love being able to donate. (mostly to the Pgh Food Bank) I never thought I'd have the ability to donate like I do until I learned to coupon.
I'm loving where I'm at in the stockpile vs. grocery shopping situation though. Weekly it is 1/2lb of deli meat, 3 gal milk (thirsty children!!) fresh fruits/veggies, and bread/wraps if needed. I'm around $30 per week right now so I am estatic! Once every 3 months I use my foodperks toward a stock of meats for the freezers to a tune of maybe $150max and that is about it. I load the rest up when it is a freebie/cheapie and I am sure not to go over my $30 budget. It's soooo nice to know that for a family of 5 I spend about $150 a month (including the meat) on groceries! Not too shabby!

So are you guys getting TP for free or are you paying OOP a little for it? I am always running out at my house. I can get it sort of cheap, but never free (unless you count that Marcal stuff that they sent out freebie Qs for but it is like using tissue paper or leaves!!! You kind of hope and pray when you use it that it isn't going to tear! LOL). I think I would have made out better using the coupon in place of the TP!
I also am not sure about garbage bags. I got a good deal on them a couple of months ago at GE (or so I thought) but didn't stock up b/c I hadn't bought Qs before and only had 2.
I have enough dishwashing detergent (electrasol tabs) to last me quite a few months but the TP and garbage bags just don't seem to let me get ahead.

MJKNEeley, I do not have a stockpile of garbage bags and very little in TP. I was just going to ask Jen about that since I know she only buy Scott's.
I did get some Cottonelle "free" last winter using bucks but those 5 large packs are gone and I only have about 1 20 pk of Charmin I got "free" with bucks. The clearanced Kids Cottonelle is gone and only two 4 pks single rolls left of Angel Soft Free from GE. So I've only found Angel Soft to be free after coupon, but try finding a bounty of those. Plus, it has greatly decreased in quality too. I think I just need to buy it when it goes on sale biting the bullet and spend the money while we have it.
Trash Bags I am buying when there is a sale and coupon usually at GE, but this week I bought some at Target (Glad Force 38ct Trash and 45ct Kitchen) for $4.99 each. The only time I've got free bags is during the big Christmas time deal at Walgreens when you got $5 Cat for spending $25 precoupons. I had several that needed to be used and there was a sale and coupons so I only paid tax.
Having a family of 6 we really go through those items fast and forget about paper towels!

I have a decent stockpile of Angel soft and Sparkle paper towels from the $2/2 IPs that were out a while ago, but other than that I haven't found a really good deal on either.
One of my Walgreens had Cottonelle 4 packs on clearance for 99˘ but I didn't ahve any coupons with me to buy it. There are 50˘/1 IPs that would make it 49˘ but I don't know if I will get back in that direction to buy it before it is gone. And it is not worth me making a special trip for it since it is a good 20 minute drive. Maybe tomorrow since I do have to go to GE anyways so I could just go to the one near Walgreens instead of my closer one.
I have yet to find a great deal on garbage bags as well. I bought quite a few boxes last year when GE had their brand for $1 a box. I think there was 15 in there. I just bought a big box of Glad bags from Walgreens because I had register rewards to burn.

*gasp* 1200$ for 2 people? Hopefully she bought a whole dang cow for that! LOL My DH is the same way - I try to share my excitement and he just looks at me like I have 2 heads. This is my husband too! He makes fun of me for having over 70 deodorants, 50 toothpastes and all sorts of paper products, yet never ONCE does he have to add those things to a shopping list because we always have them.
Yup - DH laughs at our 'shopping list' that I keep on the fridge....it's usually blank or only has milk and bread on it!
I for one think there is too much you can buy of, but i just limit myself. My husband sounds like yours. He thinks that me having 20 jars of PB, 10 jars of Picante, 15 jars Ragu, is way too much. My kids call the pantry shelves 'The Store' :giggle2: My oldest often exclaims that he "Has to run to the store for more _______" and then walks into the dining room to get it off the shelf
That is basically where I am at too - only free or insanely cheap is brought home now. And I too love being able to donate. (mostly to the Pgh Food Bank) I never thought I'd have the ability to donate like I do until I learned to coupon.

:BigHand: 30$ is great!! I think we're at about 50$ right now, but that's because of DH needing pop and snacks for work. But some weeks, like this week, I havent even gone once yet to GE - DH ran a couple times for bread and pop, that's it!
And yeah, financially I've never been able to donate to the less fortunate. But now I often send boxes of stuff to Christian Laymen's foodbank here in Greensburg (they take everything, HBA/food/and gently used items to sell in their thrift store) And I'm able to help out family members too - which is all a great feeling!
So are you guys getting TP for free or are you paying OOP a little for it? I am always running out at my house. I can get it sort of cheap, but never free (unless you count that Marcal stuff that they sent out freebie Qs for but it is like using tissue paper or leaves!!! I have enough dishwashing detergent (electrasol tabs) to last me quite a few months but the TP and garbage bags just don't seem to let me get ahead.
I'm down to 2 boxes of garbage bags! Panic!! I think last time I bought them there was a cat deal that made them about $1.20 for 20 or 25 bags. I think I bought 20 boxes. But I think that's a good price for garbage bags, and I'm hoping another deal comes around with the 55 cents Hefty coupon out now....
Toilet paper - I'd rather get it free - so I did go crazy with the Angel Soft/Sparkle deal. I also throw it in whenever I can when doing drug store deals. Like this week the 4pk of Angel soft is 89cents at RA, so I was using it as fillers to hit the 25$ mark to use the 5/25s. Even though I have about 30 packs...you can always use more of that! It never goes bad, and it's something that you will always use.
LOL about the Electrosol - I have sooooo much of that - but I love it, and it's the only stuff that works right in our cheapy dishwasher. I have a big metal tin that came with Electrosol in it that I got years ago at Walmart (it was some 'collectors tin' with the Jetsons on it) that I keep under the kitchen sink. It holds 2 -3 boxes at a time, the rest are stacked to the ceiling on my laundry room's top shelf!

I got my Scott's and Viva's at Kmart last doubles. They weren't on sale, but they were doing the buy $50, get $12OYNO deal and I had a bunch of Kmart $2/1 12pk Scott Q's and some $1.50/1 Viva Q's as well as some $2/1 Kotex and $2/1 Poise so I would buy the TP or PT in a trans with the Kotex/Poise which were FAC to get up to $50. Kinda looked like this:
3 Scott 12 pks $21.57
4 Kotex $13.96
4 Poise $14.79
=$50.32
- All Q's = $40.75
=$9.57 OOP - but I usually used a $12 cat to pay for this (and some filler Oreo Cakesters and some filler Quaker Mini D's, and some other filler stuff) to get my OOP as low as possible.
Then I got another $12.00 cats so I would do the Viva:
4 Viva 2 pks $19.40
4 Kotex $13.96
4 Poise $14.76
1 Ziploc Container $2.99
=$51.38
- All Q's = $42.72
=$8.66 OOP which of course I grabbed more fillers and used a $12 cat again.
Then I'd rinse and repeat until Kmart didn't want to see me anymore! :BigHand:
: I spent $50 that week on all :http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/kmart/238317-k-mart-brag-thread.html#post2054693
(A small splurge!)
(My Bounty PT stock was excess from June Target sale which wasn't super, but good enough for me to stock a little)
I have no clue on GDA's for trash bags either. I bought a couple boxes the last time they were BOGO at GE and I think there was a cat for them as well. We don't use very many bags because we have a trash compactor and we recycle any other bags for the smaller trash cans and recyclable bins.

Our stockpile is at the point now where we have plenty and can supply our families as well. The next step will be donations, although I did send stuff in with DS while they were collecting to send to the troops overseas.
I got a ton of Electrosol for my family. I don't even have a dishwash so I split it between my mom, grandma, and uncle. I need to find free dish soap.. I have a ton because I use it as fillers at Wags, RA, and CVS. But free is always better.

I guess I am going to have to add K-Mart to my realm of stores I visit to get the TP and such. I do get free Viva at Weis when the .80/1 Qs roll around, so that I have plenty of. They also do a Sparkle BOGO every couple of weeks / months that I can get 2 3-packs for next to nothing OOP.
I tried dollar doublers once, maybe twice, but they were always out of items. Now that I see there is a K-Mart thread on HCW, I can get more organized and it will be easier. I wandered around there w/ my binder hoping for something....But I did notice some of their shelf prices were really high. Even with a $2 Q doubled on my deodorant, it didn't make it a stock up price like I was hoping (I like the clinical strengths).
CVS sounds like a place to get TP cheap but I can't make a commitment to go back every x many weeks to use my Extra Care bucks. The 3 grocery stores I go to plus the Kmart doublers is where I have to call my limit :=)

Nothing like a job loss, fire or other catastrophe, to make one truly appreciate a stockpiler!
DH's been laid off for almost a year.
He was between jobs when we were dating more times than I care to remember-his parents paid the rent in exchange he did LOTS of work around their house.
He was shocked when he had $5 to last a week for food and I told him to meet me at Marc's-he got over $70 of stuff that lasted two weeks.
His son comes into the house and his head disappears into the freezer/refrigerator and my stockpile diminishes quickly. My son is used to it-he can eat candy anytime he wants but usually eats fruit and yogurt. He complains if my son does eat candy(candy he wanted apparently). His son refers to my coupons as "pieces of paper"-guess that's why his mother has no money.
My son recycles and composts. His son throws away food.
DH hates to shop. I love a challenge-in stores and in DH.:whistle67:

A nice stockpile makes a future occurrence much more manageable.
We all have to eat!

I think this is wise to have a limit. In the beginning I was doing CVS,Wags, and Rite-Aid then through in Giant Eagle. Plus, I did Kmart twice, but low stock, higher prices and yet a third direction of 20 miles. I did just about every deal known to man and I got burned out. The last few months I have limited myself to CVS and GE with the occasional coupon used at WM or local grocer.
Also since building a nice stockpile I am not as anxious about getting to CVS every week especially since the manager will let me used expired ECB.
I only go crazy at GE when I can. I can't wait until I get my freezer then I'll go out shopping a lot less I think or just nice casual trips of normal amounts.:giggle2:

Visual that I have a prop in front of moi.
It is picture frame and in that thar picture frame are three items:
• A $1.00 bill
• A $1.00 manufacturer’s cents off coupon
• A $1.00 mail-in rebate form
+
I ask the Doubting Thomas what they see inside that picture frame.
They answer, “A $1.00 bill, a $1.00 manufacturer’s cents off coupon, and a $1.00 mail-in rebate form.”
I then tell them what I see … “Three $1.00 bills!”

I really do not go out of my way to convert people to using coupons.
Many times, the shoppers behind me line line at the checkout get an eyeful / education.
"Observe and learn."

Coupons, to me, are money, a form of payment.
Printing out coupons online is like … printing money.
Hurray for our side!!!

My other grandmother is another one that absolutely floors me with her grocery bills.
In August she sepnt $1200 on groceries for 2 people.
She did stock up on meat but my goodness ...There is something to say about purchasing perishables.
Meat is a goooood example.
The thing is that a perishable can good bad and that is not a good thing.
Yes, I know people own new freezers and some even have backup electricity generators but I find myself purchasing more and more non persihables.
It allows me to sleep real good at night.
So, when I shop (which I love to do), I am always asking myself if the product will give me glory or grief if I decide to purchase it.
Nothing like dealing with 30+ loaves of Sara Lee bread when they offered free item coupons in the Sunday inserts.
Much of that ended up being donated to the local food pantry ... you can only eat soooo much bread, n'est pas?

When I first started I went to every store, every week. Sometimes multiple times per week. Now I do GE and CVS weekly since they are my closest 2 stores. I will hit Wags, target, walmart, etc every other week to once a month depending on the RR's I have to roll. I will hit Kmart doubles if I am out when they are going on. I don't make a special trip like I use to, since they have enforced those new limits it just isn't worth the special trip to me.

I've definitely limited myself these days. I shop GE about 4-5 times per week depending on the sale (like with the Black-n-Gold buck items and the thirty billion transactions required - btw, does anyone know if you still have to split up the trans to get more than one?) I do CVS maybe once a month. I don't shop Wags or Walmart really anymore because - well, I hate WM and Wags is just a pain. I shop Target just because I like the store, but mostly for kids clothes and holiday items.
But just like most, I think, I use to hit every store and every deal I could - sometimes driving to three or four stores looking for the ECB/RR item. I burned out pretty quickly too. Of course after the 30th free razor who wouldn't! lol

I'm big on the Rite Aid SCRs but I have two Rite Aids right here in the neighborhood. I get lots and lots of moneymakers there and I get all my toiletries free. I do Wags if there are items worth bothering with and I do K-Mart doubles. The only grocery store where I deal chase is GE. However, since I'm limited to 4 identical coupons per day and the closest GE is 20 minutes away, I don't really do deals more than once per sale unless it's something worth driving back to the store to repeat. Otherwise I just make my one weekly trip worthwhile. The only other groceries we have here in Toledo are Meijer, Kroger and Aldi. I find all of their sales to be not as good as GE's, so I prefer to shop GE if I can.
