I was wondering what a good stock up price would be for whole chickens??
I am out, and noticed on the package I had bought I paid $0.88/lb.. would this be a great/good/ or ok price to pay for whole chicken??? whats the magic number for stock up prices as well??

It probably depends on area, but here I paid .59/lb to stock up this summer.

Not a lot, but one of my stores is .68/lb this week, so still pretty good.

i would not consider that a stockpile price. i would wait for .69/lb or lower.

If you do stock up at this price (or any price), don't forget about the $3 off $15 (or whatever the amount) Q mailed from Kroger, if you got it ... it's one of those brownish color ones!

I have the $3/ $15 fresh meat, exp the 18th, should I wait to see if it goes lower before that date?
.
also what about chicken Breasts (boneless)

If you have a Thriftee's nearby, they've got whole chickens for 69¢ per lb this week.

Kroger had boneless/skinless chicken breasts last week for $1.69, which is a very good price.

I want to say 29¢ or 49¢/lb ... then, again, I generally buy wings/necks, that kind of stuff either around Thanksgiving (to go in dressing) or when we're going crabbing.

Know it doesn't answer your question, but to let you compare more prices, I picked up Randall's ad today ... they've got fresh chicken drumsticks, thighs or leg quarters for 99¢/lb (says you're saving 30¢/lb) -- that's way too high for me to pay for a bird I gotta cook.

I love me some chicken wings, and I would say $0.99/lb would be too high, esp since a whole chicken is $0.88/lb right now.
being wings they should be REAL cheap.. I'll load up when the $$ goes down to at least $0.50/lb or below... not alot of meat, mostly bone and skin!

I'm lucky there's a grocery chain here Market Street that usually has great prices on chicken like .59/lb for a whole chicken or .69/lb for thighs/drumsticks. What makes it a better deal is that all of these are Pilgrim Pride products and w/ the IP it's super cheap. I got a whole chicken for $2.++. They also had wings of clearance. I'm thinking about making them in my crockpot w/ the free bbq sauce. Which reminds me what am I going to do when I move this weekend w/ the 50 BBQ I have?!?

I am sure the local HCW members would love your address to help you out with that BBQ:giggle2:

Good luck on the move, I have yet to have to move with a stockpile and don't look forward to it.
