My fav cashier told me about SD's this weekend. Also, my manager hinted towards it last week. So, I'm planning for it.

This is crazy...it should be this week shouldn't it? They have not had a coupon event for two weeks now! This is getting annoying...why can't they just cooperate....LOL!

I'm sure there are lots of forums I don't know about, but for the ones I do, no one else is reporting SDs this week. Everything has been unusually quiet so I'm guessing the people who usually did 'leaks' realized they got burned last week and are keeping quiet. Not sure I'll believe anything until Weds at this point.
(Although it's HT's loss if they're playing games now--I made the drive to SuperWalmart to do my grocery shopping this past weekend, for the first time in probably a year.)

Hi, :wavehi:
Jen is correct! No SD's this week--a manager showed me the ad today at my HT in N VA area.
Perhaps week of 10/20/09 or 10/27/09 Triples or SD's. She couldn't tell me. Definitely NO TRIPLES OR SD's this week! I saw the ad--no mention of sales.:shrug7::sad:

So any idea what's going on with Harris Teeter. I am fairly new to couponing and am really getting the hang of it....all I need now is for Harris Teeter to stop doing it. Over the last few months they have been very consistent with the doubles and triples. Is this a bad sign or is it normal. Any ideas? I'm starting to panic a little. Please I can't go back to Walmart - LOVE HT!!!!

This has been discussed on other threads (like the last SD "rumor" thread). Some of us believe that HT is trying to weed out the "leakers" - including me. Either that, or simply discredit them so no one knows what to believe (seems to be working - LOL). And it is clear, based on some of the posts on this thread, that the leaks still continue - specifically the SMs that are showing the Ads to customers.
Who knows - it could be that there are simply a bunch of clowns starting rumors for their own entertainment. But one has to believe that given the last year or two of crackdowns on policy, that HT is really trying to improve their margins (specifically related to couponers). Personally, I think they've gone too far on several fronts - most specifically treating me (and others) like I'm doing something wrong when I strictly abide by *every* rule.
It seems someone should change the title of this thread.

Frankly the only reason I've been shopping at HT so much lately is because of their interesting coupon deals. I still spend a ton of money there on other stuff. But frankly their everyday prices are way, way too high above other retailers for me to continue if they're going to play games like this. If they can only make a profit by running 20-30% above other retailers' prices on many items, something else is wrong with their business model.

Many of their stores are in affluent areas - so their business model is to charge more to people that can afford it. Most people I see at HT could care less whether something is on sale or not (except perhaps during triples/SDs). They just want what they want, at almost any cost. That is HT's target and bread-and-butter (IMO). Basically, they are more weighted towards convenience and customer service, rather than dollar-value.
Given the above, it isn't hard to understand why couponers (and their concerns/complaints) are lower on their list of priorities (compared to other grocery stores).

I can't disagree with your reasoning, and I probably have a sense of entitlement happening. :) I was one of those people who would buy all but the seven-dollar dish detergent at HT without paying much attention, until I got a look at my monthly grocery bill on mint.com. Once you find about couponing, it's hard to go back and I suppose I'm just disappointed. It's hard to find quality meat in this area without going to HT, and the inconvenience factor is what's getting me down (i.e., I'll still really have to go there for some things).
I kind of miss south Florida, where Publix pretty much had everything you could want--ethnic food, good meat, amazing deli, decent prices (especially compared to NC). I just need to get over it. :)

Nahhh ... you just know what things SHOULD cost - whereas most people don't.

There is always a good deal coming down the pike - patience.

Absolutely, I don't think I can ever go back to paying what I used to pay for groceries....it's amazing really and before couponing I forced myself to go to Walmart because it was just sooo much cheaper but then of course I would go to HT for meats and produce and be so excited if the sales ad was so good that I could actually justify skipping the walmart for the week which was getting scarier each time I went. I just love HT so much....so pretty....so helpful.....so kind......so clean......so luv it! Is there anything we can do so they will continue to do Q events? Write letters of apprecitation and adoration...a little kissing up never hurt? LOL

Well, as always, it is the few rotten apples that usually destroy the entire bucket. It has been the folks who were circumventing/abusing the rules that began the crackdown. So, IMO, the only thing we can do is discourage other new couponers from abusing stated policies. The established couponers are going to do whatever they want, and think they are entitled to do so. Go figure. :shrug7:
But, yes, HT is a nice shopping environment .. kudos for that. Now pay up!

How are people abusing the coupon policy? It's clearly stated everywhere on the site.
Plus, their deals with coupons are soo good that one need not try anything fishy, imo!

Why all the drama? Is HT mad at us couponers? Is that why you are thinking they are not doing these events? I haven't heard anything about them being mad at us(coupon folks). I think it is extremely nice for Teeters to offer us Super Doubles or Triples once a month or however often they would like to run them.
Someone change the name of this thread already.. LOL!

More so in the past, people were using multiple cards. Multiple people from same household. More than three coupons. You name it. Various rules are being more enforced these days.
Greed is an interesting beast. People always want more of a good thing.

I don't think anyone said "mad" - rather I would say couponers are being more actively "managed". No drama, just trying to address some of the earlier comments. Nothing new. We don't even know if they ever planned on doing any events - so I doubt they proactively canceled anything ... the only people who claimed they were imminent were the rumor mongers.

At the last tripples someone said on this site that HT was coming to an end of a fiscal year and that is why there were so many good deals. This leads me to think they may be doing things differently this new fiscal year. They just started doing tripples every month starting in January so maybe that was a trial run and they are going to sit around and see if they made any money before they do anything with Tripples or SD. I hope they do since I like to hit the store early in the morning like 7am. We shall see I guess. I get up early with kids so I will just weed out expired coupons tonight just in case.

gwynne, I feel ya!
Around here, HT is far and away the best grocery store. Years and years ago (15 years or more), we had one regional grocery store chain, and it kind of stunk, and that was it. About 8-10 years ago, more chains started moving in and gave that one chain some competition. But still, HT rocks -- they run the BEST sales.
In fact, I started couponing by joining a pay-membership site where you get a List every week of the best deals for the stores you choose to pay for. Once I saw the way HT operates, I gave up on any other store, and I stuck to just buying the loss leaders or the best deals at HT. We don't even have the larger store in my area -- the closest larger HT is about 20-25 mins. away. I will sometimes make the trek if there's a really good deal on HABA. Instead, we have a small "neighborhood market" HT, and it's right smack in the middle of a VERY affluent area. I watch how others shop, and I VERY rarely see other shoppers with coupons unless it's a triples or SD week. Most people go in, buy wine and pricey deli trays and a few other staples, and that's it. And some frozen meals for during the week. (A lot of younger people live in the area, and there's a medical school very close by, so they really cater to young professionals.)
I don't try to really go for no OOP, but instead I concentrate on the best deals each week for the stuff I know we like. We're pretty brand loyal, and I keep a very nice stockpile, considering that it's just me, DH and 6yo DD. I know for others who count on doing very low or no OOP that HT can be hit or miss sometimes, but even during normal weeks for me, they have way better prices than the other stores around here. And their meat ROCKS -- we pretty much only buy steak there. (Right now I have about 8 packages of NY strip in my freezer.)
