View Full Version : Kmart ~ Question How do Kmart register work when coupon value exceeds item?

I'm not looking for overage (free is plenty good since the item will count towards a catalina) but if the register automatically does it, I want to make sure I have other things that'd absorb the negative. I don't want to have to unnecessarily add things in though and get stuck paying for them if I don't get the overage though.

Will the coupon beep, need an override, scan normally for full price of coupon, scan normally and adjust itself down?

TIA! Reps if you can help!

Depends..

If you are talking about during doubles, it goes up to the price of the item..though for some reason when I would just buy 4 secret & use 4 coupons it kept coming out neg .31..??

Several items I've found it does give overge though...trying to remember specifics, I know several times I've had 1/1 coupons ring & give overage.

I use Q's that double to over the amount all the time. The coupon will double to the amount of the product, so for example if the item is $3.49 and the Q is for $2.00 the Q will double to $3.49 only. The computer doesn't beep because of this, however if you are buying multiple items from the same brand or different flavors of the same product, the computer will have a screen that pops up and asks the cashier to select the item the Q should be applied to. Watch this carefully because if the cashier chooses the wrong item, it could affect how your Q's double. For example if you have a $2.00 candle and a $3.00 cleaner from the same brand and you have a $1.00 Q for the candle and a $1.50 Q for the cleaner this should make them both free, but if the cashier chooses the wrong item to apply the Q, the $1.00 Q will still double fine, but the $1.50 Q if applied to the $2.00 candle would only double to $2.00 and you would lose $1.00 savings. (Does that make sense?? lol)

Meems, if it is a BOGO sale item, using 2 Q's can give an overage. I think this happened to me with the L'Oreal Hip products the last time. The products were $7.49 each (I think) and the Q's were for $2.00 each. They both doubled to $4.00 giving me a $.51 overage. (This happens because the register rings each product at whatever price then does a discount for the price of the free sale item on a separate line, so when scanning the Q's it does recognize that both were bought at whatever price, but doesn't recognize one was then discounted to $0 pre Q)

That is the only thing I can think of...

$-.31 is odd! lol

No..not a b1g1..

It was secret straight out, one product, one coupon per..?

I only bought 4, I did 4 so I could roll my $12 crts into GCs (you need the same $ amt in product).

The coupon is over the $2 amount so it wouldn't be doubled anyway.

Specifically, I have a $3 coupon for ANY fragrance collection item. My store has a bunch of the 2oz candles still that are $2.50 so I was going to use the $3 coupon on them.

A few months ago with the flameless candles were 4.99 and there were $5/1 coupons out it just scanned at the coupon price even though it was the only item I had. HTH

How do you roll CRTs into GCs? Can you do it with catalinas too? I always end up getting anything to use the crts up but if I could roll them together and got one nicer item, that'd be totally awesome!

I did the Tide 10 ct. Stain Release deal a few times this week, using $1.50 q's from various magazines I tore them out of a few months ago. The 10 ct. sells for $4.29 at my store and right now there is a $2 Kmart Savings promo. The $1.50 doubled to $3.00, bringing my price down to $1.29, but I still got the $2 savings on top of it--$.71 MM!

I found $.99 lacross tweezers and used the $1/1 coupon. I got overage on all 10 of them. It was just a cent but it was still overage.

This has happened to me b4 and I am pretty certain that the reason it does that is b/c Kmarts computers are programmed to tax the total price that you pay, not to tax each individual item. Hence, if your total is $0 then you pay tax on $0. The reason it was .31 neg is b/c there WAS tax b4 the q's were deducted. Now, I haven't quite figured out how it came up with -.31. How much were the deo's you got?

OP, I have always gotten overage at Kmart with coupons(not the doubles). This could be a ymmv, but I have always gotten overage if my coupon exceeds the value. HTH
