I usually buy kitty litter at Wal-Mart. They have a 35 pound bag for less than $4, usually around $3.50. The clumping kind costs quite a bit more, and in my opinion wasn't worth it. As far as food goes, 9Lives makes a food called "Growing Years" and its for kitties from 0 - 3 years old. Kittens need a lot of extra nutrition. I would be happy to send you a few of my kitty food/litter coupons if you pm me your addy. :wavehi:
I love kitties, and want to make sure they're all taken care of...if I go to the humane society I want to take all 40 home. :hysterical: Hubby would love that!!!

Hi, my name is Arie (I don't think we've met yet) and I volunteer at a feline rescue called Kitten Angels, which is based out of Delmar, NY.
(You can see some of our kitties here: Kitten Angels (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NY868.html) )
-Litter:
While you can get clay litter rather cheap, please do NOT use it for kittens. Most of the time, it is okay - but if you find a kitten (versus adopting one who has seen a vet) it may have under developed lungs, which will be irritated by the clay and sodium bentonite (which is used to 'clump').
The best litter you can get for a kitten is called "World's Best". It's sold in most stores (I think even target has it) but very often if you go to a pet store, INDEPENDENTLY owned (not petco or petplus or anything) they have samples which they're more than willing to give you. I know the store we foster out of and have our adoption days at, gives away a 5 lb bag free testers!
World's best is made out of ground corn, which is compressed. This way, if they scratch and make a mess, they're not inhaling chemicals. If they eat it (you'd be surprised) it's gross, but not harmful. Plus - You get NO smells!
I'd imagine that they're like any other manufacturer, that if you call or email and ask nicely, they'll send you a coupon or two.
-Food:
How old is the kitten that you found? Can you tell me what color his/her eyes are? They are generally baby blue under 6 weeks, then change from blue to grey to about 12 weeks, and from 3 months on their eyes typically change to amber.
They all require lots of nutrition, but the younger they are the more important it is to get them the right stuff. If you feel he/she has been malnurished, I'd suggest getting baby food. Yep - a jar of meat babyfood (I'm partial to the gerber chicken and gravy in the little jars. It smells better than the other ones in my humble opinion!)
Sit down with the lil fluff ball and feed it about three teaspoons of babyfood every time you get ready to give them moist food. (Give this to them first). Babyfood has most of the vitamins and nutrients that kittens need. If you find that the kitten is not old enough to eat on it's own, contact me and I'll send you a 'mothers milk replacement' called KMR. It's a powder that you mix with water.
No matter what, please do NOT give a kitten milk, heavy cream or 1/2 and 1/2. The milk is processed and the kitten can not digest it. Though people often think they're giving their baby a treat, it gives them upset tummies!
If the kitten is old enough to eat on it's own, you can start out giving it wet food which is special for kittens. As K2Flohe said, 9 lives is relatively inexpensive and often has coupons out for it. The fancy feast "with greens" is pretty good for them too. Just make sure to only give it a few tea spoons at a time. Kittens are gluttons and will often eat until they make themselves sick! (then gradually give them the rest of a small can)
Please keep in mind that when they reach 1.25 lbs they are big enough to get a distemper vaccination. This is a two part vaccine, and prevents a highly communicable disease which is similar to Parvo (in dogs).
If you need help finding low cost spay/neuter in your area, please let me know. I'd be more than willing to help you set that up!
Hope this helped and that I haven't hijacked your thread too much!
(By the way, :thanks7:for saving a kittens life!)

Congrats on your new kitten. I also found one a few weeks ago and it took 3 weeks to find it a home. I sat all day at my friends chuch barn sale with a "free kitty, comes with food" sign. Thankfully someone took it. Sadly all the animal shelters and recue group would not help as they said they are past full.
For Meijer's: There is a Meijer $5 printable Purina one cat food coupon good on the 3 lb small bags. They were on sale for $5.97 with a regular price of $6.16

Try going to a vet to get a capstar and then treating your house. Please, please, please do not try anything they sell at walmart for you to apply to the cat. Cats are extremely sensitive to the chemical in most hartz/sergents products. www.hartzkills.org (http://www.hartzkills.org) is a good site to look at. Depending on the age of the kitten it may be able to get frontline or advantage. Some places will sell just the 1 tube http://www.luvmypet.com/prices.html has good information on vaccinations and flea prevention. Good luck!!

Try original blue Dawn dishsoap for fleas. My daughter is also expecting and gave all 6 of her pets a bath last week. She said it did help. Good luck.

Yes i had gotten some cat treats at kmart this week because they were free with the intention of giving them to my freind. So i put some in a bowl the night we found her and she ate it no problem...It seemed like she hadn't eaten in a while..poor thing!!! but i have already fallen in love with her..she is so much fun and she is very cuddly when she is sleeping....i have given her 4 baths since wed and today i only found 3 dead fleas...so i am hoping this means we are getting rid of them....i put salt and baking powder on the floor just in case. thanks everyone for all your advice..it helped me out so much...

I'm a little late here but if you have a Big Lots close by I've found they usually have good deals on treats, food, toys etc especially for kittens. I've also found a couple times right by the cash register at Petco or where the clearance is they have kitten milk for like .30 a carton and they LOVE it... Congrats on the new kitty!

Depending on the age and whether you want to give her wet food, dry food or a combination, you may want to start "stocking up" on other foods for when she gets bigger. Target has a TQ printable for B1G1 of the Fancy Feast 2oz Appetizers and there is a matching MQ out as well. I understand you can only use 1 per transaction, but the TQ is good til 11/3 I think, so you have some time to get a bunch.
There is also a MQ good till 10/13 for $3/1 Purina One dry dog or cat food. Target has 3.5lb bags for $5.99 so, 2.99 for a bag and they do carry for kittens.
If you send me your addy, I'll pop some Purina One and Fancy Feast Qs in the mail for you to help! =)
