Hi everyone. If we goto a 24 hour store and buy a RR item at 12am.. will the rr print?
I know at Jewel-Osco, the catalina machine shuts down for 2-3 hours at night even in 24 hour stores
So are Walgreens catalina machines working 24/7 or no?

There are a few 24 hour Wags by me. My experience is that at 12am - or a few minutes after, all the Catalina machines start to click and reset themselves, BUT come right back up. However, if you are in the middle of a transaction when the machines "reset", the RR's will not print.
So make a special note for Saturdays, when the new RR deals come out. As soon as the machines reset on 12am Sunday morning, the old RR's will stop printing.
Also, anywhere between 3:15am-4:45am, all the Catalina machines will go down (this has happened to me on more than one occassion in more than one store) - there have been times that they have taken upwards as 45 minutues to come back up but as few as a minute or two.
I just listen for all the Catalina machines to start clicking - they will do it simultaneously - and I immediately know that they have gone down. I will then wait until I hear them all click again, and I then know that they are back up and working again.

This is absolutely right. I work at a 24 hr store, and the Catalinas do go down for a bit right around midnight. They are resetting (from what I understand), and if in the middle of a transaction will NOT print out the associated RR. However, what I do is ask the customer to wait for just a few minutes, re-ring up the qualifying purchases as soon as the machines quit clicking, and then 'void' out the transaction as soon as the RR prints. That way my customer still gets the RR they were supposed to, and they don't have to send away for it (a REAL hassle, in my book). Also, doing it this way the store cash count is still accurate, as well as the inventory count. Generally, when the computer in the office is running the 'end of day' report, the registers / catalina also have 'glitches' for just a bit, and get slower to respond for a few minutes.
BTW, the photo lab computer program also goes down for a bit around 11pm at our store, usually for around an hour or so. Ppl can still send in Internet orders without a problem, but the Kiosk is down for that time, and we can't enter any new orders in store until the program is back up and running again. This also makes it tough when a Photo Tech hasn't written / marked the price on the photo order a customer is picking up during this time, because the registers have no access to the correct price on the order (doesn't happen often, but is a reallllllllll pet peeve when it does, lol).
Hope this helps explain what is going on a bit
