Okay ... now be nice and leave some for me! (I'm on my last "emergency" pack and need to re-stock!)
Spam singles are 99¢ regular, or did they go down to 89¢? ... anyway, Q in 9/20 SS for 35¢!!!!! Sounds like a deal to me!!!
Also 35¢ Q on the canned spam (after Q ~ $1.24 for 12oz)
(Noticed that went I was checking inserts in paper to make sure they were all in there! Haven't looked at rest of the Qs yet, so don't know if there's other savers!!)

Oh they LOVE spam in HI. It's a staple there. Every fast food restaurant sells it for breakfast, and they even have huge SPAM JAM parades and celebrations to honor it!!!

I knew spam was huge in HI, but cannot understand why anyone in Tx surrounded by cattle and poultry would choose canned meat over the real deal :hysterical:

It was probably the first canned meat on the market.
Was esp popular in the depression I think, and war times because it was cheap, didn't need refrigerated. It was served in the military too. It gave rations a bad name.
It tastes yukky to me, but I also don't like most sausages, chilis, or salted foods either. I'm more used to leaner, less process, less fat foods, & little salt added foods so I pick up the taste of everything in there ... ugh. The salt alone is a big no no for me ... i'd be swollen some the next day.
My dad bought it a few times when I was a kid. I didn't like. It has a strong taste of canned ham, spices, fat to it from what I remember.
I'm assuming that it's popular in HI, because they may eat a lot of pork in their dishes & it's a cheaper alternative to fresh. I've seen tv reports on how popular it is over there.
One note: don't bother getting hugh amounts to send for the younger generation military; most have never had it; most would hate it therefore. You can send to the ones that are away from a base I guess. The one on a base have enough better foods offered. I know my son would never eat it unless starving.

One note: the military want care packages from home that give them good foods they miss; most are not missing SPAM! throw one or two in if you must, just not a whole case, keep their moral up; what if you were the recipient of a whole case of it and not much else? they sometimes give out boxes one per person, sometimes open all for whole group to share, you never know how each group does it if you're sending lots.

:hysterical::hysterical: at all the responses!!
(sorry, I was off computer since writing that, until today ... cutting Qs, and still not finished.)
Yea, I know, for those that detest it. My sister used to fry it when we were kids ... she was the only one that ate it, couldn't even stand to be in the house when she was 'cooking" it.
But, DH seems to love the stuff ... then again, he likes potted meat, Deviled Ham, vienna sausage ... and he's a FARM BOY -- go figure!
It took me YEARS to cultivate a taste for it ... I don't like mustard, either, but he taught me to barely heat it (spam) up in microwave, and the taste isn't so strong. (prefer the canned, not pouch)
Finally figured out that, although I liked neither spam nor mustard, if I put mustard on the spam I could tolerate it. ... same with vienna sausage, still don't care for potted meat or deviled ham (that stuff's SALTY, even for me).
Believe it or not, NOW (30+ years later) I sometimes ask him to make one of his special egg sandwiches for me -- 3 pieces of toast, 2 hard fried eggs, 2 pieces of spam, with mayo. .... and I eat every bit of it!
Then, again, I love calf liver, will even eat tongue, used to eat armadillos, squirrels, rabbits, etc. ... so, what do I know?!!
Granted, I'd rather have myself a 3/4" thick T-Bone, medium rare but I figure wienies and spam aren't that far apart ... both come from leftovers.
