I found canned pumpkin at my Aldi's (Kettering, OH) today. It's not the big can...just 15 oz. for .89. But, after last year's shortage, I decided to grab a few and put them back for holiday baking! I'm not sure if they're predicting a shortage this year, but I'm ready, just in case!!
ETA: The label says 100% pumpkin.

Thanks - I may do the same. I have to head over there to get some celery for turkey noodle soup in a little bit.

I always process one pumpkin a year and make my own (it makes alot so one is enough). Just cut open and scoop out seed - place halves on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 until soft. Cool and peel skin off then cut into chunks and puree in blender. I usually get at least 6 24 oz. freezer containers from one pumpkin - plenty for me for the whole year. We love to do this because then we get to roast and eat the seeds.:BigHand:

They call the small pumpkins "pie pumpkins" because they are much tastier.

Yes, there is going to be a canned pumpkin shortage this year. I heard it is even worse then the last one! Thanks Carol for the info on finding it at Aldi. I'll have to look the next time I go!

Thank you for posting! There is no pumpkin to be found here but I will check Aldi now. It was quite surprising to find none when I wanted it for my daughter's favorite cake. Meijer said maybe around Oct. 1st they will have some.
Thanks again! :thanks7:

yes, it's real. Last year there was a big shortage.

It's actually kind of funny... I have one lone 15 oz. can of Baker's Corner pumpkin from when I bought several cans at Aldi last year after actually FINDING some pumpkin.... and I refuse to use it because it's my last. lol I just keep it there, on my shelf, amidst my veggies. My single solitary can. No muffins, kids! I can't use my last can!

Was at Aldi today in Virginia and they had some for 89 cents a can (was 79 cents a can last year so it has gone up). Bought several cans since we love Pumpkin Pie and I haven't been able to find it in a long time.

I went yesterday and got my case plus one. yay! Now the kids can have pumpkin muffins (or mumpkin puffins, as my 4 year old says it).:giggle2: My oldest said, "yes! Does that mean you'll finally use that can that we had in the garage and make some of those muffins?" My poor deprived children.

I'm really glad that my little "find" has helped so many people! Thanks for all the reps!!
I need to get back there and get more for myself before it's all gone. I only grabbed a few cans, because I didn't have much cash with me at the time. The next time I'll get a chance to go is Tuesday.

I was at Aldis on Saturday, and I thought the same thing about last year's shortage, so I stocked up! I haven't seen it in any other store for almost a year now - crazy!!!

It's 1 small can pumpkin, one cake mix (I get the reduced sugar ones), and spices to your liking. I add about a tsp of cinnamon and a little bit (1/4-1/2 tsp) of cake spice. I also add about 1/4-1/2 c. apple juice just to make it easier to mix, but this wasn't part of the original recipe as given to me and it adds a few minutes to the bake time. Put into cake cups and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
My kids LOVE them. They stay really moist and yummy.

You're not the only one...hubby found 4 cans of organic pumpkin at a Safeway in MD and I have 1 can left...and it just sits there, because every time I go to any grocery I look and never see any! I am surprised to see the groceries are already selling pumpkin pies, so Libby's must be keeping the baking companies in stock.
I need to head to Aldi tomorrow so I'll be getting a few cans. My kids love the muffins I make, which are just a can of pumpkin with a devil's food cake mix. Makes 18 muffins, bake at 350 for 40 minutes. My son is a terribly picky eater and he loves my muffins--he has no idea what's in them, lol!

Just the dry mix and the pumpkin? No eggs/oil/water? I love pumpkin muffins but the recipe I have is a royal PITA. Easy is better!!

Yep-that's it. I do add a little juice, but as I said-that isn't in the original recipe. I just think it's easier to mix with juice (and I'm kind of all about the easy too lol).

I'm in FL too... they have them, but apparently the closest one to you is about 70 miles away (I just got an envie from you today, so I punched in your zip). Be patient. They opened the first one not too long ago, and now FL has lots of them! The one around the corner from me included. :) They have plans to really spread out down here. You'll get one!
And enjoy the 'puffins.' lol

My DD was in town yesterday so had her stop at Aldis. She couldn't find any pumpkin at all. So I am going to check today and see.
My Dad use to grow pumpkins(just for personal use-not to sell). Anyway one year he brought me 79 pumpkins. I cooked and froze them all. Then the next summer we were on vacation and they had a bad storm at home, lost power for a week, so I lost everything in both freezers:sad3: So, now, it is canned all the way for me:hysterical:

At my store, it's in the aisle with a majority of the canned goods: veggies, beans, etc. and the other baking items. I'm not sure if they have a basic set up for Aldi or not. I know the two I go to are pretty similar layouts.

I went, found the place where it should be, they were out. I asked and the cashier said they should be getting more in a couple of weeks. She said the warehouse was out. So, then I went to Hyvee(regional grocery store) and they had some for .99. I went ahead and picked up a few just in case Aldi's doesn't get anymore.

I went back today to get more, since I only got 4 cans the day I reported my find here. I got 20 cans, and plan to share them with my daughter when she's here next week (OMG!! that sounds so good to say!!!). Anyway, when I was there last week, they had a whole stack of them...about 4 feet high. Today, they had 5 flats of 12, and a few strays left after I bought mine. I guess the word is getting out.

Wow, what a sick feeling that must have been after all that hard work! My hubs used to grow peas so we'd bought a pea sheller and shelled and frozen tons of them. Same thing happened - freezer went out and lost all the peas. He was absolutely sick about it.

I have been waiting for pumpkin at Aldi's since last season. The 2 other major chain grocery stores in my city have not carried pumpkin (due to the shortage) for 5 months or more.
Finally got to Aldi today, and wouldn't you know it -- SOLD OUT.
well....all I can do is keep trying......just wish it were not on the other side of town!

Found it at my Aldi today, and it was on the end cap of the canned veggies, also 89 cents for the smaller can. We bought 12 cans for us and 4 for my MIL.
Went to Walmart later in the day, and they actually had Libby's, the small can was $1.50!!! They also had the larger can but I didn't even bother looking at the price.

I did the pumpkin muffins today and the kiddos loved them! I only had enough paper cups for one tin of mini-muffins, so I did that and threw the rest of it in a small cake pan. A keeper! I dipped the tops in decorative large-crystal sugar. Next time I may try chopped pecans in them, or oatmeal. You could do a lot of different things with these...thanks so much!

Glad you liked them! I had to pick up some more cake mix. Just got home from Publix with my BOGO reduced sugar pillsbury mixes. My kids will be happy when they get home tomorrow.
*I actually was given the cake mix+pumpkin from someone on here, but I can't remember who. I added the spices and stuff b/c I thought it would taste better that way.

Finally found some! It was at the third Aldi's that I tried on the way home from the kids marching band contest. The local stores were out. Y'all should have seen my 6yo. His face lit up like a Christmas Tree, then he licked his lips, opened his eyes real wide and said "Are you going to make a PUMPKIN PIE???" :hysterical: I didn't have the heart to tell him not until Thanksgiving. So, I grabbed a couple of extra cans and said "Yeah, I guess I am."

I may head back and buy another case as well...saw that Giant PA had the large can for $2.50 I think it was, and my hubby was at a Safeway in MD and saw the small cans on sale 3/$5!! Looks like there is still a shortage and Libby's held their stock until the holidays were approaching...
