View Full Version : Newspaper Inserts - How do people get so many?

I was wondering if it is possible to go to stores and gas stations and ask if they will give you the leftover papers on Sunday night. Or do you all know where/who would I contact to get some free inserts? I would like to start getting some stuff that I could donate to the local women and children center. Being a domestic violence survivor myself I know how important it is to help these moms and kids out. I really is something that I hold dear to me and this is one way that I know I can help. Anyway your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance...............

Yes, it's possible. :) My best suggestion would be 7-11 or other convenience stores. The ones around me toss their papers (after ripping the thingie off to return to the paper people) at midnight. You can ask the manager to either keep them for you, pick up that night, or pick up early Monday morning. :) In the end, it's really just up to the managers... but yes. 7-11 would be my best bet.

I used to deliver the Newspapers and in my state the newspaper carrier collects all the old papers and gets credit for them so the stores will NOT give them to you they get a credit as well for the papers they are charged in advance for how many are delivered then credited back what they don't sell. I would try the recycle newspaper bins either on the curbs on garbage night or at the dump??

The store I worked at we just tore the date off the newspaper to give to the paper carrier and recycled the papers. So we could take the inserts if we wanted too.

I have a subscription and asked my delivery person if they could give me some extra inserts. He gives me five extra every Sunday. Nice right? It never hurts to ask.

I've been on this board for a few months and am loving every minute of it. But I've got a couple of questions that I've been wondering about.
1) How do you get the ad's weeks ahead of time?
2) How do some of you have 50 coupons of the same thing without buying them from eBay or a clipping service? That's what I do when I want multiples, or come on here to trade, but just wondering how some of you get so many. Do you really buy that many papers?
I get the coupons from my sister and mom, but that's only 2 in addition to the 1 paper I get. Actually I did buy an extra paper this past weekend due to some good coupons.
Thank you for allowing me to ask my questions and to be a part of this wonderful board :giggle2:

1. Some people just have really good relationships with their stores and they get the ad early by asking nicely.
2. People get multiples in various ways. Dumpster diving in the newspaper recycle bins is one way to get a bunch for free (just be sure to check your local laws first). Another thing you could try is finding a store that has extra newspapers on Sunday evening/Monday morning and work out a deal with the manager for the inserts--most places they have to return the whole unsold newspaper, but some stores only have to return the front page of the paper or give a count of the unsold to the newspaper man and recycle the rest. Some people have worked out a deal where they count or tear the papers and take to recycling in exchange for the unsold inserts. And yes, some people DO buy that many papers. There's a lady that shops my same stores that buys at least 50 papers per week.

whats a clipping service?
if you are looking for a clipping service, we have several that advertise here with us!
check out the HCW Hot Entrepreneurs forum. (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/hot-entrepreneurs/)
Our coupon clipping service gals and guys have a forum HERE (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/coupon-sites-trading-selling-coupons-forms/)
We have 2 entrepreneurs who are not "listed" in ad form that often have coupons that I do not want you to miss.
ms linda and justlucy06. Ms linda has multiples of each coupon and she takes orders. Justlucy06 often has full insert boxes available for members.

... do some of you ladies have so many copies of the weekly inserts from the newspaper? We get the paper on the weekends so I get the inserts, but I don't understand how some ladies have 50 - 100 copies of the inserts? Where do you get them all?

I have a daughter that works at a gas station/convience store. They throw the left over Sunday papers away on Monday morn. So I pull the inserts before they throw them away. If you have any gas stations close by ask them what they do with the leftovers. Offer to take them , pull the inserts and recycle the papers. Also recycling bins are a great way to find papers. My friend usually finds several still bundled papers in hers. Another option is local Dollar Tree stores sometimes sells the Sunday papers for $1 all week. It's a good way for a beginner to get started. HTH

Many people have friends who work for the newspaper and can access them that way. Then, if you live in an apt, ask everyone to save them for you. Or you can dumpster dive, or.... you can purchase them from the clipper services...or you can get creative....

When I first started couponing I was buying 3 or 4 inserts a week. It really helped quite a bit in building a good stockpile. Don't let the prospects of 100 inserts overwhelm you. It's nice for the people who can get them but I'm just letting you know that it's still very possible to do great with just a few per week. Recently, I've only been buying 2 per week even and purchasing on ebay multiples of the better coupons that I will need.

i do a few things
1)some weeks i buy up to 10 copies of the newspaper if the coupons are that hot. i usually use some of my about to expire ECBs for this purpose
2)i have several folks who MAIL me or have me pick up all their inserts that they dont use here in town. this was thanks to using freecycle and requesting the coupons.
3)every 2 weeks i dumpster dive on recycling trash day morning. you have to check your local laws on this. some areas do not allow it . mine allows taking the coupons but not the alluminum.

My neighbor delivers the Sunday papers, I keep her three kids over night while she hits the streets.....I wake up to between 20-50 inserts...LOL....IT IS SO MUCH WORK to get the inserts sorted and pulled, haul out all the trash...omg. BUT, I do the research work, and pass the deal list and cut out q's to my neighbor and float her free stuff often. We work together to get the deals, donate and hep family members, and we take care of all our kids! I am so thankful for this set-up at this time in my life. I have friends that get the larger paper from the city that has some better q's, they save for me, so I get 2-3 copies there, pay them with free toothpaste or a coffee sometime. I will once in a blue moon buy a copy of the bigger paper if there is an excellent coupon in there. I try to exercise restraint though, because the point is to NOT spend money.
Today I stood at Pick N Save with a handful of Ken's salad dressing q's, made it free...I have like 40 bottles, and was sick of looking at the q's so I passed them out to people walking by. It was hilarious! Some people said NO! Completely free salad dressing! No tax even! I laughed so hard! I left the rest of the q's on the shelf.

I used to wonder how people got such massive amounts of inserts and I wanted to get that many too. But I have enough issues with my 10 papers a week. I seriously couldn't handle more. Some Sundays I don't even bother buying the paper. Keeping track of just my 10 inserts is a part time job in itself.

LOL I just saw some newspapers in our dumpster yesterday. But, I didn't dive in. I broke my right knee two years ago & thought maybe it wasn't a good idea. My DH probably would have done it for me had I asked him.
We still buy the Star-Telegram paper even though we don't live in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area. Lots of good coupons.

100 inserts is a LOT of work, part time job.
Recently I'm at about 30 to 40 a week & it's still a lot of work, I colate them all & that alone is a couple of hours. I trade inserts for stockpile with my paper delivery person. Used to dive, but have cut back on that..whole other work load sorting, etc.

There are people who offer whole inserts for sale--look in the HCW trader section. You can also trade or buy individual coupons from people on this site or buy them from places like Ebay. If you want to trade, HCW starts you off as a trader in trading. You can start off by looking at the coupon database and see who has the coupons you are looking for. HTH!

I make it a point to buy at least 3 Sunday papers from CVS along with my weekly deals, use a $5/$25 which I almost always have, and roll my ECB's. As long as my OOP for the total purchase is less than $5.25 (my Sunday papers are $1.75 each), I'm getting a good deal. One week my total OOP was $.67 for 3 Electrasol tabs, 2 Loreal face scrubs, and 3 Sunday papers (and I got more ECB's back and another $5/$25 to use the next Sunday). You could also probably get creative with Walgreens Register Rewards or Gift Card from the EasySaver Rebates.

1- Buy more copies.
2- Ask friends to save them.
3- Find a store that sells leftovers after Sunday.
4- Befriend (And Reward) someone who works at a convenience store to pull the coupons out of the papers before they are returned and give them to you.

Check out any other newspapers that cover your area. I found that if I spend the extra $2 for a different newspaper, I get more coupons and the values are slightly different.

I recently got laid off from my job and have always been frugal but taking it way more seriously now... I fould a local recycling place near where I live and stopped by casually last weekend. Let me say I found tons of coupon inserts from the paper the the "paper only" bin.. I was in heaven and almost couldn't leave...it was very clean no digging in trash just dug thru old papers and magazines and found about 3 months worth of all of the major inserts there and that was just what was on top in about 20 minutes... so check local places like that and call your local newspaper and see what they do with old papers or inserts..HTH

I get up real early on Monday morning and go to a few gas stations and ask the employee that is working if they have any Sunday papers left that you are going to toss. If they say yes I ask if I can have them. I did that back in Sept. and now I have 6 Stations that save them for me. It help to get to know the overnight employees.:smile77:

Hi, I am totally new to stockpiling here. Since Ive seen some of your big stockpile pictures, where do all of you "stockpilers" get your coupons from to do all that stockpiling? I mostly check the sunday papers, clip the coupons out for items I use, save them, and if the item goes on sale, or if I can get the item for free, I pull the coupon out of my filing binder. I mostly try to match the coupon to the item that is on sale like at our local Walgreens. Of course, Wednesday is our double coupon days at all of our Pick N Save's. What I like about stockpiling is if I run out of an item, I dont have to make a special trip to the store, and I don't have to waste time pushing a shopping cart down almost every isle in the grocery store. Any advice you hardcore couponers have about stockpiling and where you all get good coupons for items on sale, you can always send me a response to my box.
With the economy the way it is, couponing, stockpiling, and buying items when they are only on sale helped me out a lot! Thanks to you all! By the way, this couponing started with me when I saw a woman on our local tv newscast bought $100 worth of groceries, and only spent about $10 out of her pocket at the checkout counter!

I live in a rural village without a lot of stores. I only have a Kroger close by that doubles. I buy three newspapers on Sunday. The lady at the local mini mart saves inserts for me from the papers that don't sell. I don't get them every week but a couple of times a month helps a lot!
I buy the "All You" magazine at Walmart, it is full of coupons. I have been paying $2.49 for it but I heard the price was going up.
I use to trade with other coupon users for what I need, but just don't have time right now. I am trying to garden and am trying canning this year. That keeps me busy!
Check manufacturers websites for coupons and email manufacturers of products you like and let them know you like their products and they will sometimes send some great coupons.
You can also order coupons from places like the Coupons Clippers, ebay, etc. their are a few places that do it. You pay for their time to clip and and postage and they mail the coupons to you. That way you can order only the ones you use and it saves you buying extra newspapers.
I placed an ad on our local Freecycle that I collect coupons and I have a local lady that gives me her inserts after she takes what she wants. It helps a lot too because we don't all use the same products.
HCW has RAOK that you can enter and win. That helped me so much when I first started couponing!
You may other things you are already doing that I did not mention.
Happy couponing! Just remember, not to let it stress you and you don't have to do every deal! It's ok to miss a deal, it will come back around. It's ok for a coupon to expire! More will come out. Besides, the military can use the expireds and some other folks can use expireds in their local stores.
HCW was the biggest help to me when I first started. This site is wonderful!

I pay attention to the sales cycles and trade when I know the item should be coming up.
Look in my siggy for the link.
Like now it's cereal, juice and snacks for school lunches. In my area the quaker bars are about to start being on sale to where I can get them almost for free.
Does your local stores have a forum? Check in the old threads for what was on sale this time of year - just to get an idea of prices.
I also pay close attn to what is previewed to be on sale at cvs, wags and ra. Then start trading for coupons. Trading early is the key.
Plus in my area the grocery stores rotate sales. I know when I start seeing cheese, pillsbury crescents and mixes like hhelper, rice like uncle bens rice a roni at publix to go ahead and start trading. If publix has it now then winn dixie or fw or brunos will have it soon and vice versa.
My coupon sources:
ebay, traders on here, recycle bins and contacting companies for coupons
I buy a bunch of coupons on ebay. I buy from sellers that give me something for buying from them. Free shipping, .10 shipping on extra wins or free packets of coupons.
I trade on here too.
I love trader reez and a couple of other traders that trade a great prices. Tearpads I will trade at 10% but inserts I prefer to pay .03 .05 a q for.
I hunt in recycle bins and finds lots of great coupons.
I contact companies and tell them I love their product, I want to try their product or ask where can I find their product.
Look for a blog or our contact companies to cheer or jeer section on here and email the ones that have sent coupons recently - first. No sense in wasting time and emailing every company out there.
Anyway, some companies only send out coupons a few times a year. I save time by researching to see which companies are actually sending out coupons now and contacting them first.
How to do a stockpile the right way:
Basically my strategy is to see what is free after coupons, get rain checks and trade for more coupons.
Rain checks are the most important tool for me now. Then I hold those babies until the coupons come in.
I started building my stockpile with ok prices. :shrug7:Didn't know better. I wanted a stockpile so bad and thought 1/2 price was great.
I wished I had half that money back. For the last 2 years I know most things I can get 75% to free - if I wait.
Start slow and wait on the sales. You can't rush a stockpile.
Everything goes on sale at sometime, they key is to buy when it's a fantabulous sale not an ok sale. So learn patience.
Then learn how much you need until the next fantabulous sale. I thought I stocked enough pickles, ketchup and bbq sauce to last for ever, in the beginning. :giggle2:
My pickles were free in the summer and by xmas I was buying pickles to make deli trays for the holiday parties. Pickles are $3 a jar in the winter! BBQ I ran out like Jan - no sales in jan for bbq sauce.
Ketchup now I know to stock up with what we are eating. Lots in the summer for grilling, lots if ds will be eating pizzas and lots if we are going through an unhealthy frying chicken finger/fries spell. So 30 from June to next May - is iffy. 50 in my stash and I don't worry.

I hear people talking about, on these sites, how they have 50 or 100 inserts from the newspapers, but how do you do that? I live in an area that doesn't have dumpsters - trash is picked up on everyone's curb so that eliminates dumpster diving - so how do you do it? I want to get more than the 2 inserts I get from the two newspapers we order, but how? I also don't wish to buy additional newspapers.... please tell me how ya'll do it?

If you can't dumpster dive, you might ask friends and family to save their inserts for you. Or you could order the coupons from a clipping service or on ebay or this site.
Good luck, don't get discouraged if you can't get 50 or 100 inserts, you can still save lots of money with coupons, you just might have to be more creative.

Some people dumpster dive, but I've never done that. Let's see... in Pennsylvania, I just went around the neighborhood before the recycling came and picked up inserts that people had put out with their newspapers. When I visited family in the Dallas, Tx area, I got a bunch because they deliver the local freebie newspaper with ads and inserts, and hardly anybody picks them up, so I'd just go around and collect the ones that were still left the next day. Some people are just lucky like that... unfortunately, now I don't have that luxury because I just moved and I haven't found a good source for inserts yet!

I used to dumpster dive at the recycling center, but it got to be too much work. Way too many inserts and I couldn't keep them all organized. I buy 10 papers a week at the convenience store right down the street. I asked the manager to request ten extra papers, because they were getting so few, I was clearing them out. The savings on my receipts far outweighs the money I pay for the papers. When I need high numbers of coupons, I trade with the high value traders here.

We get a free local paper around here that carries the inserts. I go around to the 4 or 5 different locations that I know get them and get a few from each so as not to wipe them all out at one location. The is also a little paper that is local and usually free, but on Sunday's it has inserts so they charge....but on 25 cents, so I buy a few of them. The next town over from me has a local paper that also carries the inserts and it is only $1 so I will usually but several of those in stead of my usual main newspaper that is now up to $2----I still support the main paper because my MIL or I will take turns picking up 2 of them each Sun so that we both have one----she usually pick up the tab for that one so it really helps.

i don't dumpster dive either. but i get between 4-8 papers a week (depending on how good the coupons are). I go to the dollar store and get the early sunday addition on saturday. A dollar is a lot cheaper then the $3 it is at a regular store, therefore i can afford to buy more.

What about having some kind of basket or box at your church and ask if the congregation can help you out. It works great if they have a food pantry. People will give you the inserts and feel like they are helping out the pantry.

We live in a very small town and our grocery store and gas station rarely sell out of their Sunday papers. I know that they just cut off the top 1 inch or so from the paper (including date and price) to return it to the distributor (I assume for reimbursement). Has anyone had any luck obtaining extra papers at a discounted price or free late on Sunday (when they know they won't sell more)?

There's a sticky on this forum about Dumpster Diving you should read. Aside from recycle bins, there are many suggestions about getting newspapers at a discount or even free on Monday morning.

In our town it is illegal to dumpster dive. :rolleyes24: You might want to check first. A couple of summers when copper and scrap metal prices soared, they really cracked down on it (as in arresting people) because most stores/companies around here don't want the liability of some one being in their dumpster. Also, the stores around here say they have to give the newspapers back w/ coupons in them or they don't get "credit" for the ones not sold. :shrug7:
My best places for extra coupons:
*my friends and family or neighbors who don't coupon
*I "co-op" coupons w/ my friends around here. ( It's great to share what you can't use.)
* Check out trading forum on here.
* Buy them from a reputable coupon clipping service. (You also might want to check out some of the posts on here about reasons not to buy through Ebay.)
I hope this helps!

I dumpster dive, I raid the coupon box at work, my sister and mom sometimes bring me coupons because I give them quite a bit of stockpile when I find some great deals.
I search high and low for blinkies and tearpads. I get all you mag, I raid the magazines that other people throw out(some really good q's in magazines sometimes)

My mom and MIL save their coupons and mail them to me. I also buy 4 papers on Sunday morning. They do a double issue pack here that is $2 for 2 papers, 2 inserts, so I buy 2 of those. If I bought the papers individually they would be $2 a paper so I save $4 every weekend buying the double pack.

I live in a neighborhood and we have small recycle bins. Most people in my neighborhood put only newspapers in there. So on garbage night I go around and pu papers from peoples bins. I like the previous poster about the gas station. I am gonna ask the lady their what they do with left over papers. Thanks for the tip!

I have relatives save theirs for me. I also have a relative who works at one of the drug stores so pulls inserts for me. I also will use my RR/ECB's to purchase papers when I need a filler or there are going to be more than 2 inserts in a paper. I don't get to many trade requests for inserts, usually end up using them for myself. I've never purchased more than 10. However, that may change one of our papers is making a change next week with their early edition on Saturday. They are combing Sat & early Sun together including ads, inserts, etc for $.50. I'm paying $1.75 now. So big time savings just got better

I can't dumpster dive where I live b/c the two counties (one I live in and the neighboring county) don't allow anyone in the dumpster or to take stuff out of the dumpster. Right now I'm restricted to my apt complex recycling (which isn't divided - I have my gloves though). Last week was a bum week though. Hoping for a better tomorrow.

I also get them from the gas station and a small convenience store. I take the clerks a gift (freebie of course!) every few weeks. A friend suggested I do this and I am so glad I do! I am pretty sure they enjoys the gifts, I get the inserts AND I get to feel great about gifting ;-).

I get one Sunday paper just to have the ads and see what the coupons are. And then if I want multiples, I find them at the recycling dumpsters. I'm lucky to have several in a radius of just a few miles.

:wavehi: Hi! I'm newer here and would like to find a free or very inexpensive way to get my hands on more coupon inserts from the Sunday newspapers. I subscribe to our paper and receive 2 more sets from family members. 10 sets a week would be great - then I could really build my stockpile. It kills me to only be able to get 3 of something when its completely free or even a MM.
Would any of you experienced couponers want to share your secrets???
Thank you very much

Ask your local party/liquor stores and gas stations to pull the extra inserts out of the leftover Sunday newspapers that do not sell. I have a few people that do this for me. I also DD. Both combos work great for me.

If you're nervous, hit them up on a Sunday evening. Buy one, and say, "Gee, what do you do with all the leftover papers? When do you throw them out?" And go from there! :) Some of my local gas stations also sell papers for a discounted rate later that evening (half price, I think).
My coupons come in my local Saturday edition (we don't have Sunday). My papers are already only .75 each, so it's less stressful and just as efficient for me to buy the amount I need that week. :)

Ok, so my town is apparently not very friendly. :( I did have 2 gas stations tell me to come back Monday morning to talk to the manager. So I'm hopeful as to what that will bring. Some places were out, others said they were required to throw away the papers and one cashier said "why would we give you the inserts? That's the reason we sell the papers" Right, no one READS them??? lol anyway, thanks again everyone for the advice, I may be peeking in a few recycle bins tomorrow even though its not allowed here :) Cross your fingers that the 2 places will have papers for me in the morning!!!!

I buy my inserts on ebay. You can usually buy 5 inserts for around $2.50 or so. Shipping varies according to how many you buy. I try to buy a lot at one time--because then they will usually charge you around $10 for shipping and fill a flat rate box. I usually try to purchase at least 25 of each insert each week. I just purchased 25 (5 lots) of each insert that came in todays paper on ebay and paid a total of $31. Which for me is a good deal, as our sunday paper here is $2.50 and we don't even get the good coupons!! Just thought I would share another option--not free like the other suggestions, but works for me.

I get several from neighbors. This allows me to get a few of the items that we don't use much of. However, for the items we use a lot of, I simply pay a coupon clipping service. Costs about 5 cents a coupon. Saves me a ton of time and I get the exact coupon I want. I like couponclippingcrew and lorihas3kids.

Just a warning, sometimes with the cheaper paper you might be missing a few coupons here or there and they might be slightly different values than your cities major brand. For example: My LA times sells for 1.50 and always has all the good coupons, but another local newspaper (I forget the name it's late) sells for 1.00 and it is sometimes missing a few coupons (not inserts, just coupons) that the LA times has for that week.

I dumpster dive when dh doesn't get me any papers or when it's a good week for inserts. But I see your not allowed to. Ask employees at work or other relatives who don't coupon. Another option is to trade for hot coupons you many not get at all in your area. Save up tearpads, blinkies or any other coupons you can find at stores. Alot of traders will trade for those. I wish you luck!

Some sites sell whole inserts.
You should get to know your newspaper guy. If you get delivery, leave your contact with newspaper company so he can call you. Work something out with him.
Ask your local gas station what time the newspaper gets delivered and maybe work something out with that guy.
It Houston our newspaper is ready on Thursday. If we have a connection we can get our Sunday papers by Thursday pm. The cool part is we only get the ads.

Where I live, (Tampa), the newspaper from our neighboring city of St Pete is only fifty cents on Sunday. I have heard that it is common for a paper from a neighboring city to be cheaper. Also, you can find out where the nearest newspaper recycling bin is. Mine is only about 2 miles away. ie: dumpster diving! It is not so bad since there are only newspapers in the dumpster bins. I gets lots of inserts there.

I go to my local newsstand. Whatever papers they don't sell on Sunday, I can have those inserts on Monday. Sometimes I get zero, sometimes 35+. Periodically I take them boxes and bags of free stuff from my stockpile. You may also want to try putting up a sign at work "hey if you don't use your coupon inserts from Sunday's paper, I'd like to have them, please put in my box." I did that where I used to work at that always got me another 5 or so inserts. Try your library too, or asking friends and neighbors.

Check with your local gas stations/convience stores. Sometimes if they are just going to throw away the papers they will let you have them. Also, some people go to the recycling bins and look for coupons. HTH

Since I have absolutely no one who will trade/give them to me locally, I buy them for $1 at Dollar Tree in addition to the one I have delivered. I recycle the papers and keep the coupons. If I had another way I'd use that, but since this is the only route available to me I just keep it as cheap as I can. :) Here all the recycling bins are owned by the city and have strict "tresspassing/theft" notices on them so I don't even want to get involved in all that. Sort of hard to get extra coupons behind bars. :giggle2:

My Dad and Mom collect inserts from their coworkers/friends for me. I get about 7-10 a week that way. I also occasionally get an extra one for myself when I know it is worth it to pay the $1.50. Some free papers carry inserts so check the free papers in your area. Dumpster diving is a big no-no in my neighborhood so I just stay clear of it, although I do know some people still do it here. If I know a good Q is coming up, I get them from a clipper service. Once in a blue moon, like maybe 2-3/yr I will use Ebay for Q's, but mostly for hard to find non-inserts.

I had a thread like this once! I can't/don't dumpster dive here. I have gone to every gas station, store, shop in my town an no one would keep insert for me. It makes me sick to know they go in the trash!
So last week I called my newspaper carrier [she left us a 'Happy Holidays' note with her info around Christmas] and asked her if she had extras at the end of the week and if she could toss them my way. I was so nervous to call. She said NO PROBLEM! We've only done it 1 week [yesterday] and she was a bit short so I only got 3 extra papers but they are FREE! I have a bag a free stuff for her and I plan to give her a 'goody bag' every few weeks just as a thank you. Call you carrier! :)

That's a bummer! Did you try local stores/ gas stations? We have a local gas station that always said they would hold the papers for me but the Monday morning AM lady would always tell me they were in the dumpster, I think she just wanted me to have to dig them out.:rolleyes24:
Anyway, maybe you would have a nice Monday AM cashier that would hold the papers for you????

I too would love to find inserts without all the papers. We have started to paper mache and we still don't use them all up. I don't really care about spending the money, I get it back, I just don't want all the trash. My recycle bin is miles away, so dumpster diving or recycling isn't that accessible for me.

When I go dumpster diving I am lucky enough to find the unsold newspapers that the delivery guy just dumps in the dumpster (legal where I live, not a charity dumpster) and they are often even bundled still so I can get 50+ when I dumpster dive.
I have taken a break from that simply because I don't need that many inserts right now and it is too cold. LOL
I have no idea where clipping services get their inserts.

Maybe they work at a newspaper or know someone who works at a newspaper. My sister worked at a newspaper for a short while - we would sit behind the building when we knew the guys were finishing their routes and had papers for the recycle bin. We would ask and they would let us go through the extras they brought back and pull out the inserts.

I go to a local public recycling center. They know I coupon, and are very friendly. People who bring things in sort as they go, so the papers and inserts are all in one place, and it's easy to go through. I'll bring in some of my recyclables to "trade," and come home with a ton of inserts for free.

I don't usually get 50 inserts but it is easy for me to get minimum of 10 but usually more like 30 smartsource inserts. My area has a paper called Express news and inside of that free express news are smartsource inserts! You can take a pile whenever you see them they are free sitting with the free for rent and employment newspapers and other stuff that is free as you walk out of a store. I see them frequently at gas stations and grocery stores around here but have also seen them at least twice at a Walgreens store, sometimes at Salvation Army or Goodwill stores even.
One area post office even has them!
I trade a lot recently on WUC and have recently gotten extras of coupons I really need off there. Someone even sent me a RAOK but usually people will trade coupons for coupons or coupons for stamps.

OMG how can someone say no to a coupon that makes something FREE?!? People are just nuts!:hysterical:
I would have taken all you had and been thanking you and maybe trying to hug you and telling you to come to my house to help yourself to some of my stockpile stash!! I gift and sell and donate anything I get free that I can't use myself. People are nuts! In this economy if you can't use something free yourself HEY be nice and help the others who are worse off than you!
.

I just posted this in another thread but maybe this will help:
I live in Brooklyn and have become very friendly with my local deli guys. On Monday morning (first thing) I go through all of their left over papers. There are a lot here with different versions of the SS/RP inserts:
NY Post
NY Newsday
NY Times
El Diario
NY Daily News
I usually walk out with around 20-30 of each SS and RP and PG around 30.
If you have a local news stand that you are friendly with you should ask. It won't really work at big nationally known outlets like drug stores or supermarkets but small mom and pop businesses I'm sure will be happy to let you dig through them on Monday mornings (or late Sunday nights), all they turn back in to the distributors is the front page, they recycle or throw out the rest of the papers (including the coupon inserts).
The downside is if there are no left over papers you are screwed for the week. Here more often than not, my deli is usually out of Newsday which I think has the best coupons locally.
I actually have my local deli guy trained to actually pull the inserts before he scraps the papers if I am running late on Monday mornings. :hysterical:

My friend, Shirley, has several friends who give her the inserts from their papers {one even buys at least 5 papers a week}. Most of them clip the coupons they use first and pass them along. Once Shirley is finished with the coupons, she saves them for me. I clip what I need and pass along the rest.
I have considered contacting my local newspaper to see how much they would charge me for the unsold Sunday papers. I haven't done it yet, though. It couldn't be too much, after Sunday, the news is old.

I have heard that for some people it is beneficial to get coupons from dumpsters or paper recycling bins. I wanted to see if this was a good idea, although I'm having trouble finding any place that would have Sunday papers in them. I'm looking for multiple inserts but I'm finding just trash. Does anybody know how to search via the internet for the nearest recycling bins that might have what I'm looking for?

As far as being a good idea, that's in the eye of the diver. :giggle2:
First, you should know what the laws are in your area. There are some cities/counties that forbid it. I think if you called the company that provides the dumpsters, they might be able to answer that & let you know where you can find their dumpsters.
I also asked permission to dumpstah dive at the church I find them at, since I'm basically cutting into their profits for their programs. Course, I take all my papers there too.

I hadn't thought about the large paper recycling dumpsters. It's a good idea ~ the only concern I have is getting bitten by spiders. In my area, the post offices have a blue paper recycling can inside the building. There are five post offices in my area and each building usually has at least two of these recycling cans. I wait until late evening and make a trip to rummage through the cans. I have found many good things there, including several $10 q's for Family Dollar!! I'd say that was worth getting my hands dirty. :giggle:

You can't copy coupons that's a big NO NO it's considered fraud. Anyways I buy all my newspapers because there's no dumpsters to dive in where I live and most of the time the store that I can get them from on Monday is usually out by then so I decided to just buy them (I spend anywhere from $30 to $100 a week) I use what I need and then I trade for pp gifted or cokes codes etc. to help offset the cost. I figure I'm getting what I need and helping other traders on here save money too. Got a question though-how do you get inserts through freecycle?

I hadn't thought about the large paper recycling dumpsters. It's a good idea ~ the only concern I have is getting bitten by spiders. In my area, the post offices have a blue paper recycling can inside the building. There are five post offices in my area and each building usually has at least two of these recycling cans. I wait until late evening and make a trip to rummage through the cans. I have found many good things there, including several $10 q's for Family Dollar!! I'd say that was worth getting my hands dirty. :giggle:
I am so hitting the post office! :BigHand:

Does anybody know how to search via the internet for the nearest recycling bins that might have what I'm looking for?
Try the earth911 site (http://earth911.com) regarding newspaper and punch in your zip code and you'll get a list of bins in your area.
In our area the paper-only bins are provided by Paper Retriever (http://paperretriever.com) and you can also get a list by entering your zip code.
Since the bins are fundraisers, most the schools have them and are also popular with churches. Recycling isn't offered curbside at my house so I take all our cardboard to the schools and distribute office paper, newspapers, etc to the church bins. They get back waay more than I take considering all the waste paper that's generated from printables. :wink7:

In our area, we have recycle bins that we put out to the curb every Sunday night with the garbage. I usually go for a walk around the neighborhood on Sunday nights armed with a flashlight and a tote bag. :) I also have about 15 people at my church saving inserts for me and 10 of our Block Club members.
I have a question about the Paper Retrievers recycle bins: If it is on the property of a school or library, is it OK to take papers out of them? I know that they get paid by the pound and I don't want to be accused of stealing from their money-making resource.

Every day my job receives newspapers (about 50). On Sundays I take as many inserts as I would like. Other people only take one or two so I take whatever I want, for free. They are there at our disposal. :) I'll never leave!
