View Full Version : GE Shopper's Talk it Up Thread

I just thought I'd start a chit chat thread for us GE Shoppers.
I was howling over Flaminicecube's need to stash the chocolate in the the pantyliners and had to know, What was DH doing in that stash to be able to find the chocolate??? LMAO!
My DH originally thought I was nuts because I would drive to 4 CVS's to find the free after Q Throat Coolers from January -especially when we don't use them. He was right, I was a bit fanatical a few months ago, but when it occurred to me yesterday that I am running low on Tide for the first time since before I did the Throat Cooler's deals I think it was worth it. For those who don't remember The TC were Free after ECB and had a hidden limit of 10. There were BOGO Q's that made this a sweet MM! I kept rolling the ECB's into a new set using the $5.88 ($4.88 after Q) Tide as my filler. There were some other deals at the time that I was able to stock more Tide doing the same. I ending up paying pennies for eight months worth of Tide. DH doesn't pick on me much anymore
Originally his big problem was I didn't know where to stash everything and it was everywhere! I have since invested in some pretty decent storage units for the laundry room and now everything has a place and is behind closed doors!

Don't have a DH (take care of my disabled brother and an almost 16 yr old boy) but, they complain about too much stuff too.
I don't have much storage space where I am now but, am in the process of househunting and am definitely looking for storage space (pantry and shelving space elsewhere in the house) and a huge kitchen (love to cook). Also need space for an extra freezer (one is definitely not enough LOL)
I've gone overboard lately with stockpiling and have been trying to give away alot of it. I still have one of those cupboards you buy at Target (4 shelves in a closed in unit), a 4 and 3 shelf unit in my laundry room, 3 shelving units (4 shelves per unit) in my garage and 10 rubbermaid containers and @ 3 large moving boxes full of stuff. I can only keep paper products, canned and glass jars and some cleaning products in my garage because I have a critter that keeps getting in there (got rid of the chipmunks but haven't been successful with the possum). They ate through @ 2 dozen salad dressings alone; chocolate sauce (messy); a dozen barbecue sauce; ketchups, etc. They even ate through @ a dozen mr clean (bottles and spray!!!!).
The more stuff I give away, the more stuff I have LOL

OMG! Is that how you got rid of the chipmunks??
We probably have the same storage cupboards from Target - the Sterlite's that are some heavy duty plastic? I have 5 of them - one for Paper/plastic, one for Health/Beauty/Baby, one for Cleaning/Smelly Stuff, one for Food/Drink, and one for DH's work clothes.
I keep everything non-food in the laundry room. In the main bathroom is only the products currently being used and vanity is stacked w/ TP. The kitchen has a bucket of Electrasol, one btl Dawn, and one can wipes. All the food is kept in the kitchen except for pop/powerade and excess condiments and cereal which I just recently put in the laundry room. I was lucky enough though to have many kitchen cabinets though!

My stockpile is out of control. I seriously have everything in a million different places. I am super proud of the H&B stockpiles but also most recently the stockpiles of food supplies I have acquired. It's hard work but totally worth it to me!

The mr clean didn't kill them but, the bucket of death did LOL. The possum is too smart for that one

Actually he keeps saying the stockpile was much more at our old house. This stockpile is much more organized and all behind doors(shelves that the previous owners left). Right now, he's laid off and bored so he does things that annoy me:hectic1:
I don't go out of my way to get things we have enough of. I work fulltime and between him and my 18 yo son who has autism, they keep me hopping with running out of some items. I lost count of how many ice creams I bought and never got to taste(not my son, my husband). He never couponed when he younger, lived on a farm and either grew it or parents had to travel 15 miles to get it. His mother asks for Tide coupons from me and we find the (expired) coupons in her junk drawer months later, so no more cpns for her.
I on the other hand, grew up with couponing and stockpiling in my blood. My father had a fruit cellar that was always stocked(one side food, each canned vegetable an arm's length, one side nonfood-decades supply of Dawn and Ivory soap).
I detest coming home from a 12 hour shift, just to walk in door and hear "We're out of (whatever)". DH hates to shop, will use a coupon if I give it to him only. Two years ago was bad. His son was staying with us and I worked nightturn. I told both of them that I didn't want to come home to dirty dishes and if we ran out of milk or juice to call me on my way home. You can figure out what happened. I saw dirty pans on the stove and empty containers and stormed off. the stepson said he heard me slam the door but didn't know why:rolleyes24:. Husband said he saw it and went to the coffee shop(next to Giant Eagle). He left his cellphone in the car, ringing.
He truly is a very good man, but doesn't understand any of this "shopping" stuff or why I got mad.

My DH likes that I get good deals, but also doesn't understand the stockpiling. His parents are pack rats and store food in their refrigerator and basement until way past the expiration date, so I'm sure he thinks I will do the same thing. I just started HCW in the spring and once I started to acquire mass quantities of things, I found some extra cupboard space in the kitchen for a lot of it. I have one shelving unit in the basement that I have almost filled with pasta sauce, Chef Boyardee, peanut butter, TP and pop. I am proud of it but he thinks it's a sign that I am a hoarder. Time will tell if we eat it all or just let it go to waste, I guess.

I started Couponing/Stockpiling in June 08. Before that I worked 50 hour weeks plus took care of the kids, house, etc, with no extra time to think let alone clip coupons. I hvae become a complete maniac when it comes to couponing/stockpiling. At first DH was freakin out but now he is much better. He loves all his Free man products and that he has his own stockpiling storage space just for the man stuff.
My basement is nasty and I don't have a garage so I am pretty much stuck to the first and second floors for storage. I have a huge cabinet upstairs in the playroom that has all of my cleaners, smelly things, shampoo/conditioner, etc in it. I have out grown it though and have things piled on to and beside it. And this swiffer deal certainly is not helping matters any.
My den is right of my kitchen and use to be the back porch. The previous owns had closed it in and we added counters and cabinets in here when I was making candles. My 200 velveeta shells and cheese are still in their cases stacked on the counter along with the capri suns and cases of peanut butter, A-1, and Recipe Secrets. I just made room beside them for the Piccolini this week. The top of my freezer house my paper towels, solo cups, and some cereal. Thank god I have a front loader washer because the top of it is where I keep all my laundry soap.
I just had my DH build me a pot rack so I could use that cupboard for storage too and hang all my pots and pans. It is chaotic at times but I love not running out of things like we use too.
My closet stores are GE, CVS, and Rite Aid. If I need or want things from other places, I scour the boards and make lists for all the stores I will pass to get everything at once. Generally my circle will include 3 different Walgreens, target, walmart, kohls, kuhns, and 2 other GE's. It isn't a bad trip, just one I am not willing to make to only buy something I don't really need.

Wow, you guys really have the stuff lol!!!! My husband makes fun of me for doing the doubles at K-mart, but at least we are not paying for our shampoo, deoderant, etc..I tried CVS, but I just got fed up with not having the stuff when you go to get it, so I am sticking to Giant Eagle and K-mart. Hopefully, the rumor was wrong about K-mart not having doubles for the rest of the year, but we will see. I have been storing my stuff in Avon boxes that I get from my aunt since we don't have a garage and our basement is yucky.
I never used to do the coupons either until my SIL showed me all the stuff she was getting and she explained it to me and using HCW helps alot. It's addicting once you start getting stuff for free or cheap and family don't seem to mind it either when you can give them things either free or cheap. My other SIL just started wanting to go do doubles with me, but we use my coupons and if she has to pay anything for her order of stuff she don't want, then she just gets something else from me that she does want and we work it out that way. Anyway, couponing really does help with the economy right now.

We have been stockpiling in a small room in our basement. It is perfect for this since it is just wall to wall shelves. However we are running out of space!! There's bottles, and bottles, and bottles of dish liquid, bleach, shampoo, etc!!! I for one though, love going into my personal "store". It gives me such a satisfied, happy feeling to see all the shelves full and well stocked and know that I paid very little for it all. :giggle2:

You know I thought I had a lot, until I took photos of it! There are some things I definitely have a 'stock' of, but as far as food items, I'm a little light! Of course, it's been a really busy summer, so I'm hoping now that my oldests are back in school (as of today) that I will be able to get back into it a little better!

What a fun read :-) I've been slacking on the shopping lately - we've all been passing around some kind of nasty cold my oldest brought home from the beach....and I've been behind on everything!
I'm still trying to figure out what to do with all the leftover stuff from my yardsale. I have 4 huge boxes of stuff that is going to charity - anything that expires before or shortly after next August (when the next community yard sale is lol) is being given away.
I have another box of expired food (tuna helper and rice) that's going to my MIL, she's one that doesnt mind eating past the date :-)
And then I have about 8 boxes of stuff that I either need to unpack...or try to find room for in the shed. We don't have a basement or garage. I've lost alot of storage space that I usually use for stockpile stuff because of Christmas shopping! Any space that isn't clothes or shoes in my walk-in closet is now toys! (Thanks to Target's 75% toy clearance!)
My DH didn't understand the stockpiling thing either at first. But now he's loving it! I'm even finding him 'stockpiling' some things - the other day when he found the 50c bendy Chef Craft bendy straws he bought about a dozen bags - before stockpiling, he would have bought 1 and called it a good deal LOL
I grew up with my mom couponing and doing rebates, but we didn't really stockpile. We did have a HUGE garden, and would spend weeks canning tons of veggies. And we always had a massive chest freezer full of wild game and fish!

I am going to go get a new freezer tomorrow.. I can't wait.. Mine is either a 12 or 14 cu. ft. and I am getting a 20.5. I ahve no doubt it won't be more than a week.. Possibly 2 before it is filled to capacity as mine is now.
Our next house will definitely have a huge storage/pantry room in the basement with shelving the whole way around and moveable shelves on casters in the middle. I have it all planned. Now I just need the basement to build it in.

haha Yeah, when we finally get a piece of land for our house (double-wide), I'm definitely requesting a stockpile room in the basement! I want a playroom and a stockpile room - my husband can do whatever he likes with the rest!
Ohhh the rolling shelves remind me of the stockroom at Walmart - there was a space by layaway that had rows and rows of shelves, and you just pushed a button and each row would move over so you could get between them LOL What a good idea!

I got a new FREEZER today!!! Pretty sad that less than a year after getting our first chest freezer, we'd outgrown it LOL So we're going from 4.2 cu ft to 13.1 (12.9 inside)...AND it has these awesome adjustable dividers in it!
Now I just have to wait for it to get cold so I can start organizing :-)
Sears has them on sale this weekend, so DH gave up trying to find one on Craigslist and just went and bought a new one instead lol

haha awwww, no pics!? But it's so preeeettty! :hysterical: I just moved everything over...not quite as much room left over as I had hoped, but my fridge freezer is almost bare now! (and the kids are having a blast playing with all the 'snow' they scraped out of the old one hehe)
And yes, it was my Christmas present....that and the 3 huge file cabinets my DH won on ebay for 99c, but had to drive out to Lancaster to pick up LOL Even with gas figured in though, he paid less than what one would have cost, even used :-) So he did good! :BigHand:
I told him, I don't need jewelry or flowers - a freezer and file cabinets are perfect!

Watch on ebay - search for both file cabinet and filing cabinet though. Click on the location thing on the left side and choose whatever distance from your zip to search. And then you can sort the results by location - closest first. The ones he got were from an office which had to downsize and moving to a smaller office space, so all the extra stuff had to go. While picking them up the lady told him that they had a ton of office chairs, so he got a really nice big office chair for 20$ - almost exactly like the one we got a year ago for 100$! We had bid on some waiting room chairs, but they went higher than what I wanted to pay (10$ each LOL...which is still a steal!)
I was amazed at just how many file cabinets are on ebay...I always forget about local pickup and just assume that if I'm looking for something big shipping will kill any deals to be had LOL But I'm going to start watching more! I'm thinking of using the 3rd cabinet (which won't fit in my office) in my laundry room for stockpile stuff...like light bulbs and medicine. Those are taking up all the laundry room cabinets and I'd rather use the shelves for bigger, heavier things like shampoo or body wash.

Here is a personal tidbit about me... When DD #1 was born in 2005, FIL bought me a freezer to store all my breastmilk b/c she was in the NICU and I had to pump to feed her. Anyway, it came in super handy with her and with DD #2 also (not a preemie but I still pumped and froze breastmilk for the first year) and now that it's empty it is stockpile city! I love being able to stash extra chicken breasts, frozen waffles, garlic bread, Lean Cuisines and Hot Pockets down there. It really is a blessing.
