I tried my first transaction today that should have been paid entirely with ECB's but my balance ended up -.20 or so and the cashier said I had to buy something else. That doesn't seem right to me. Don't they normally adjust the ECB value or something to make it ok? The screen came up "negative balance, void transaction and start again" or something like that and she made me buy candy. I only had to pay .40 OOP but I would like to know what to tell the cashier next time so that the ECB can go through. CVS is new here so I'm guessing they just don't know how to do things yet.

A lot of us will just add some little item---a filler----I like the 33 cent caramel candies they usually have by the registers. If it is close, you can ask the cashier to just adjust an ECB down so that you will have 0 oop; but if they won't just add something cheap.

I once had a CVS cashier tell me he couldn't adjust an ECB, and had never adjusted an ECB in all his years of working at CVS, and he could get fired for that. It was only a difference of a few cents, btw. :rolleyes24:

that probably happened because you didn't scan your Extra Care card first, before any of the items. Happened to me the other day, and I was negative $4. LOL

that .40 was probably tax. it used to be if you gave ECBs that was equal or more than your total, the balance would be 0.00 oop but last week my fave cashier said that CVS wised up and now charges tax. I don't complain because i'm still getting a great deal.

When I use ecb's it lowers the the total tax charged. This is great but it drives me nuts because its nearly impossible to figure if I will need a filler ahead of time and I really like to spend my filler money wisely ( I hate paying .38 for a swallow of candy when I could use it for a roll of TP or something from clearance, lol)

It says right there on the ECB, "UP TO $1.00" or whatever the amount. they should be able to adjust downwards.

My cashiers always say that they "can't" adjust the ECBs, either. I once got to -0.01 and I was forced to buy a piece of candy. One cent? Seriously?!

I will try this next time. I did scan the card after the items... didn't know it made a difference.

Yes I seriously miscalculated because I forgot that a couple of the items I bought were food and thus non-taxed. If it had been all taxable I think my total would have been exactly $0.00.

This past weekend I was being lazy and gave man q's before ecbs. I ended up with a negative balance on both of these transactions and didn't have to buy anything. My receipt actually shows a negative subtotal. It was the weirdest thing...
