No personal experience here, but I would imagine you'd just need the cashier to come over and type in the price. So yes it can be used at the self-checkout, but not without assistance.

I have used a free coupon at the self-checkout. Someone had to come over and type in the price - I believe it would be the same for the BIGI free.
