No. You cannot use a $/$$ and a $/$$ together in one transaction.

I believe you can; I don't think you'll get any beeps, but if the cashier notices, they MIGHT question it - but I don't think so. I had a Free CVS Aspirin CRT (August freebie) and a $1/any CVS pain reliever CRT. I gave the $1/ any pain reliever first. The Free CVS Aspirin CRT beeped because it required the cashier to key in the price, but I had no problems at all. HTH

ETA: Uhm, okay - maybe I'm wrong. I would try it though. If the cashier says no or the register beeps, you haven't lost anything but the time it took you to work out your scenario. Simply say that you didn't know (cuz you don't) and ask them to void the transaction.
