Today I was told by a cashier that CVS won't do rainchecks for their 3 day sales. I've gotten them in the past and never had an issue. Is this a new policy, did the cashier just not want to bother, or did the other people do wrong by giving it to me?

I have gotten rainchecks for 3 day sales often, and I managers have given them to me, not just cashiers. I would go back and get your raincheck

youre not supposed to get rainchecks on three day sales (atleast for the extrabucks). im pretty sure it might even say it on the flyer. i dont think the item will have a sale number that is needed to reissue extrabucks later on on the register, or that number will be disabled. not sure, i know for a fact that youre not supposed to get rainchecks on them tho

I have got tons of rainchecks on 3 day sale items and I get my ecb's too. I just used rainchecks today for glue and notebooks. The cashier then forced my Ecb using the code on the raincheck. I just got a raincheck for the earphones which is on 3 day sale and the manager wrote in the ECB...so maybe try again with a different cashier or take it up the ladder.

I just got some today!!! If they didn't want to hand out rainchecks then they should make sure they stock their shelves on time...

They do have a sale # or event code I believe because they are written down on my rain checks. I have gotten raincheck without a problem on numerous items that were in the 3 day sale. I have never had a problem. It says nothing like that in the ad that I have ever seen.

Sometimes my CVS(s) give me a hard time about it. Others just write them for me and say how sorry they are that they were out. Maybe try a different CVS.

just email cvs about this. i did and within a day i had an return email apologizing for the store not having the advertised items in stock and a call from the store manager apologizing. both the email and call offered to mail me the rain checks for the items i wanted. it is their store policy to give them regardless of if it is a 3 day sale or all week.

It does not matter if it is a 3-day sale or a weekly sale. They can't deny you a raincheck unless the ad specifies it. The 3-day sale items do have an event code for ECB. If you have a problem with your CVS, call CS and they will make a call to your CVS to educate the manager. Believe me, it can save you a lot of time and money in the future.

I recently wrote customer service about this issue because one of the cashiers (who I have often heard passing on false info to me and other customers) at my store told me the same thing. I got the below response from CS, plus an apologetic call from the store manager, who said that he had had a talk with the cashier and that I could pick up rain checks for the items the next time I was in. I have since asked the same cashier for other rainchecks on 3-day items, and she wrote them without a word.
Dear Ms. xxxxx:
Thank you for contacting us regarding the availability of various 3 day sale items at the Kankakee, IL, CVS/pharmacy located at 225 West Court Street. Please accept this as a formal apology that the advertised Milk, Memo Books, and Pencils were out of stock.
We do provide rainchecks for regularly stocked items, even when the sale is a 3 day sale. District Manager xxxxx is aware of your concerns and will bring them to the attention of the Store Manager. I have asked xxx to call you within 2 business days to discuss the situation. I hope that you will give CVS/pharmacy another chance to prove that we are dedicated to customer service.
Thank you once again for bringing this matter to our attention. It has been a pleasure assisting you. Should you have any additional concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
CVS/Pharmacy

Definitely not true! It's actually against the law here (and in most other states, I'm assuming) to refuse rain checks for advertised deals if items are out of stock, unless the ad states something like "supplies are limited."

My 3 day rain checks all havce event numbers.. and no where on the sale ad does it mention not giving out a raincheck it does say "after tuesday $1.99 with card and no extra bucks" so as long as you get your rain check by the end of tuesday you should be good. I have to get a rain check tomorrow if the pencil boxes arent in yet! Not my fault they didnt get them in in time for the sale, I want my 3 day sale rain check LOL some stores will also substitute an item, for example if they have pens on sale and they run out, they will give you the next best thing for the same value. I have one store near me that does that. :)

Ditto. I get rainchecks for 3-day sale items all the time. I have loads of school supply rainchecks just waiting for the aisle to be restocked - and maybe for a nice $5/25 to pair them with!! :)
And for the poster who is looking for the pencil boxes, did you check the seasonal back-to-school area? That is where they were located at my store. I almost didn't check there because all of the other things were in the normal office supply aisle.

Got rainchecks tonight for the school stuff but they wouldn't give me one for the robe. I'm going to go to another store tommorrow and check but I bet they are out too.

I had this happen at one store by the general manager. (he loves coupons), can you hear the sarcasm. I didn't feel like dealing with it, I called, and by the time I was home they were being mailed to me.

I had trouble with this before. I called CS and they confirmed rainchecks are to be given in all circumstances, unless it says no rainchecks or it is a seasonal item. If this is a problem again I am going to point out the following to the manager:
1 Why would you want to alienate a regular customer that has been shopping at CVS for years?
2 It is CVS policy to provide rainchecks in all circumstances.
3 It is against the law in most states to not provide a raincheck, if requested. (I could check to see what the law is in PA)
The manager off hand seems to be a nice man, but I never understood why he has to complain/and object about about servicing a customer's reasonable requests. He seems bothered about trying to make things right.

That's incorrect. I'm not sure where you got this information from, but all 3-day sale items have an event number on the flyer. There is nothing in CVS's policy about not issuing rain checks on 3-day sales and unless it's specifically prohibited in the ad, you can get one.
We all need to be careful about giving bad information (or information we aren't sure of) on HCW...it can affect those who are looking for help.

I have gotten several rc's for the 3-day sale items in the past with no problems. The only grumbles I had gotten were how tired the hands of the employess were :giggle2: (there is alot of writing on them and when you get several at a time it adds up).
The thing I want to add to this thread is that the last time I requested a rc one of the cashiers wanted to substitute an item instead of writing the rc saying that their store manager doesnt really like that many rc's, that is fine with me how ever they want to do it as long as I get the items (or something similar) for the advertised price I'm good. This may be the case with your store and the cashier you spoke with may have misunderstood what exactly she was to do when the items were gone. Just a thought. Either way, if you intend to continue shopping at that store I agree with previous posters and say don't let this slide, inform them right now on how things should be, it will save you alot of frustration in the future.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but my local CVS manager said they won't give out rainchecks for the robes that were part of the 3 day deal. She said it was because the robes are "seasonal items" and they won't be restocking them. She said they might get different robes in around Christmas but she wasn't even sure about that.
My SM also said that they are allowed to substitute items as they feel fit for FAECB 3 day sales. While I was there this past Sunday one lady elected to get different pens then the ones that were advertised (because they were sold out) and she also chose to get pens instead of pencils for a raincheck she had from a previous week. My SM said it is completly up to the Manager of Duty to decide what is an equal substitution. But she also said that we, as customers, have more then every right to request the raincheck and not go with their suggested substitution item.

I was unable to get a raincheck for the robe last night. She said that wasn't a regularly stocked item so she couldn't give me a raincheck. Everything else I haven't had a problem with.
