View Full Version : Walgreens - no RR if you use a RR? On a different item?

I tried to use my $1 RR from pens a couple weeks ago tonight to purchase Vitamin Shampoo tonight, and the cashier told me if I used it, I wouldn't get my RR. In fact, she got into an argument with the guy in front of me about the very same issue - and told him that he was upsetting her and he had to leave!
Is this corporate policy now?!

Thank you! That's what I thought, but since was arguing with the guy in front of me, I didn't want to make an issue of it. But I will definitely be calling corporate!

I thought the vitamin shampoo RR did not start until today?? That is why you did not get a RR.

In our Walgreens, if you use an RR or a manufacturer's coupon for the item, they will not give you the new RR. Been round and round with them about that. I usually go to CVS, they are much more understanding.

Do you mean that it prints but they refuse to give it to you? I'd be on the phone with Walgreens corporate WHILE I was in the store...and still at the register. AFTER I had taken a picture of the RR that printed out (& they had refused to give me).

Yes, that is just a cashier making up rules. I just used 8 Garnier RR to pay for my Skippy and Ragu this a.m. and my new $10 RR popped out!

It was after midnight, so the Vitamin shampoo deal was working. The cashier refused my $1 RR, so I don't know if it would have still printed.
Funny thing is, I went this morning and a different cashier didn't bat an eyelash when I handed her my RR that the other cashier refused.

Ive stopped going to Walgreens for just these reasons--- their RR program gives too much aggravation Its a different story in every store and corporate, when you call them, tells the manager to call you and he tells you the same story over the phone Im done with them!! CVS is far more shopper friendly

Went to Wags yesterday.
Was told if I paid with ANY RR the RRs wouldn't print.
Bought 4 Crest and Listerine. Paid with RRs.
Nothing printed. They were from last week so not same product or manufacturer.
I returned the items immediately (they refunded cash since the RRs were "already in the system")
I then repurchased them for cash. The RRs printed no problem.
In fact, I received a $5 RR for the Crest (per the ad); a $1 for the Listerine (per the ad); AND a $2 one. Since I only purchased the Crest and the Listerine I have no idea why a $2 printed. Except to compensate me for my time. :-)

I bought a Vitamin shampoo this a.m. with the GUM RR (3.50) plus change, and the casheir was messing around with the cash drawer forever (the RR won't start printing until the cash drawer closes), and I told her I was waiting for my RR. She said "you won't get one if you paid w/ a RR" and I said, "yes I will if the new one is from a diff. manu." and out it popped! She said "oh, sorry, I guess it is just slow today". I've never had a cashier say that in my store before!
Brennemom - I bet the $2 one was from someone else's order before you. I've had the cashier give me one from Pepsi, and I didn't purchase anything Pepsi or Frito Lay - I think it just never got handed to the previous customer.

I have had the problem with the RR not printing...I come home and email Catalina, tell them the products I was buying, give them the Ref# on my receipt, my mailing address... they will then research it and if I am entitled to an RR they will send it to me....I just got $6 worth in the mail from about 6 weeks ago that WAGs said I was not entitled to. Catalina consider us their customer too... not just the WAGs.

On the few occasions that I have been told this, I just tell the cashier sweetly... "Ok, just go ahead and ring me up any ways since I need to use this RR and if the new RR doesn't print it's fine."
On every instance the new RR's printed and the cashiers were quite surprised that they did.

Possible. An employee bought a snack in between my failed Crest/Listerine deal and my return/repurchase of them. Possible I got his....now I feel bad. But not bad enough to drive the hour back to Wags....

Up until last week I had NO PROBLEMS using one RR for another as long as they were from different products. Ok nice, no probs even when they told me "the new one won't print" etc etc. Then about 2 weeks ago I used a liquid plumber RR to buy one of those pens and the RR did not print. I went right to customer service and they said "no RR when you use an RR" I just said "whatever give me a refund and I will buy it again." WHAT IS GOING ON???? Why are the RR's so freaking screwy?!?! There is no set rules. Until that ONE ISOLATED INCIDENT I have ALWAYS USED RR's to get RR's!!

My sister had one that didn't print the other day. She got the Vitamin Shampoo deal, got the RRs, then used the RRs on the Listerine (w/ MQ) and a child proof pill case that was on clearance. It should have printed a $1 RR for the Listerine but she didn't realize until I asked her later at Walmart (it was her first time doing the RR thing, she didn't quite get it LOL). I guess I'll email Catalina for her to see if they can send it.
Anyway, I know that isn't typical for our Wags though because right after she finished both of her transactions, I used a RR from the Gum toothbrushes on the Vitamin shampoo and I still got the RRs from the shampoo. :shrug7:

I did the crest deal as well with the kelloggs cereal. I received a $5 RR , a $2 and an extra $2 from the crest. Why there was an extra I don't know but I have had problems with the RR before and now go to my moms store since she goes there every week. They are so VERY friendly.

I have been told that before as well, but that day I just had 1.00 in RR so I just held it. Today I went for the unilever 8 items RR, bought 4 ragu and 4 skippy peanut butter, used 4 coupons and a 10 RR from the hairdryer last week and got my 10RR from this deal no problem.

I promie the next time a clueless cashier tells me the RR rewards will NOT print if I use a mfg coupon or RR from a DIFFERENT deal/mfg I am going to ask how much they want to bet on it.
Also, I will NOT tolerate having to call/email/wait for my RR. If they do NOT print I INSIST on a TOTAL return of my entire order, getting my coupons and RR back and WALK OUT!!! I do not have the time to call/write/call/email/ chase Catalina.

After getting in several arguments w/ Wags employees from cashiers to managers and calling corporate, I have found this out:
The stores can change the registers to not print a new RR if you use an old one. Corporate confirmed this for me. They also told me that isn't corporate policy, but the store manager can make that change if they want to.
Wags changes their coupon/RR policy alot. Newest policy at my stores in FL. is the 1 coupon per item, and they consider RR's a coupon now. Before I could buy 3 items, use 3 coupons and a RR. Not any more. Now the RR must have a filler. Not sure if it's the same w/ every store.
Cashiers make up policies all the time. I do exactly what someone else mentioned. I just smile, and say "let's see what happens." Then the RR prints out.
I do know that calling corporate does usually get a positive response in your store. A store that use to give me so many problems now accepts my qs with a smile.
If your unhappy w/ your store, call corp. and store going to a different store if thats possible.

Per the wording on RR....number of mfg coupons/RR can not exceed number of items in the transaction. Yes it use to work different, however the "fix" was sent down from Corporate, so that if you have 3 items...only 3 mfg/RR will scan.
I have yet to see a way for stores to go in and "fix" the registers so that if you pay with a RR you won't get another RR. The only way I know you won't get a RR is if you pay for say vitamin shampoo with a RR you got from purchasing vitamin shampoo. I think corporate is just saying that the stores control that over the registers. I have asked and we have no control over that function of the registers.
Why it doesn't print sometimes :shrug7:I haven't got a clue, it just happens.

I just had this discussion with a cashier last night. I wasn't at my usual store so those cashiers must not be as up on the RR's as the ones at mine. I was buying one of the Soft Soap body washes and the cashier noticed the RR's in my hand. She said that if I use any RR's, the one for the body wash wouldn't print. And I said how that only happens when you're using the RR for the same deal, which I wasn't. She looked doubtful. And out popped my RR. :) She didn't mention it again after that. LOL

Yes, you can. For instance, you can buy a Soft Soap body wash and get the RR. Then use that RR when buying the Aquafresh and get that RR.
RR's are a bit more complicated than the ECB's at CVS: some restrictions to work around and need for fillers, etc. So just start off with a couple deals each week and you'll get the hang of it in no time. ;)
I would definitely get the free after RR's body wash this week, if nothing else. The September issue of All You magazine (sold at Walmart) has a $1/1 coupon to make it a moneymaker.

The correct answer for most of these issues is if the RR's you use are from the same company's product you are buying the new products from there is a good chance it won't give you another. For example you get one for a PG product and try and use it for another PG product it may not give a new one.

I haven't had a problem with the RR, but just recently I was told I couldn't use IPs. I have used them before so I guess the store changed the policy. I called the 1-800 number and the CS guy said they should take them but the GM said no. I haven't been to any others since then but I will call around first. I'm not wasting my gas again.

Wow, thanks for all the great info. I'm brand new to Wags and just popped in yesterday for some clearance deals and decided to get the "free after RR" items. Same story from the cashier. "RR will not print for the glade candles since i'm using RR from heat wrap. It is a new policy from Corporate." WHAA??? i say. I should have read this thread first and i would have known to try anyway.. Oh well. Live and Learn!:shrug7:

They have always sent me the cats, but it does take several weeks.

If you go by companies, it can still be confusing like the Reach RR by J&J which I used to pay for the J&J character band aids and still got my RR. they are the same company but it was a different promo. sometimes, even if its the same company but if its a different promo with different value of RRs, you can roll it back n forth.

Thanks, I did google it and saved their website to my favorites.
I also used a McNeil RR last week to help pay for the Nestle deal and got my Nestle RR! :BigHand: Needless to say I was very pleased! Now I just need to learn to roll the RR from one deal to another all the time!
There is not too much space left in my basement storage areas -- maybe need coffee, veggies and a stock of pet food to keep from having to shop for bulky items during winter!
