Hi! I am also new to the coupon world! I live in Fairfax, but shop anywhere - fairfax, manassas (they just opened that super walmart!), etc. I don't have many coupons yet, but can't wait to get more. Would love to get some first-hand experience from someone that's already been doing it.

I live in Springfield. Not too far from Alexandria. I shop in Alexandria, Fairfax and Arlington. Has anyone been to the SuperWalmart? I just heard about it yesterday.

Which one? In Manassas? I went to the one they just opened at the Manassas mall, it's pretty awesome. The only thing I don't like is that they don't have a fabric section.

I do my CVS shopping at the CVS on Gallows Road right by the hospital. I usually go Sunday mornings before church. If any newbies wanna come with me sometime and see how I do it, let me know! I'd be glad to help. :)

Welcome! I am quite familiar with our lovely NoVa. Have you checked out my forum (Giant/Super G in my siggy)?
Fairfax County puts out a paper every Wednesday with inserts in it. I get it at one of the local restaurants I eat at in McLean. It's called the Fairfax Times. I think it's free b/c I always grab a couple copies and no one's ever asked me to pay for it.

I've not been very active lately but I'm in NoVa too. Hence the name! But I work in Chantilly and shop there sometimes. Some of the Connection papers that come out during the week have inserts in them too. I don't get them but my mom (who lives a mile away) does.

We live in N VA area also. Specifically in Loudoun County on a farm close to Fauquier County. We have 6 kiddos--7 year quads (3 boys/3 girls) and 4 year twins (1 boy/1 girl). Hubby is an Electrical Engineer Manager in Chantilly, VA.
We shop alot in Fauquier County and Fairfax Counties. If you are looking for FREE papers with coupon inserts, the Fairfax Times are INDEED FREE. You can grab some FREE Wednesday editions at the newstands at the YMCA Reston, VA and at the newstand behind the Silver Diner in Reston (near Trader Joe's in Reston).
If you are in Gainesville, there is the Gainesville Times and Fauquier Times newspaper which ARE NOT FREE but costs $.75. The Wednesday papers are out early and usually have the inserts a week EARLY. So you can PREVIEW the insert coupons to see if you wish to buy more. The Fauquier Times are located at all grocers and newstands in Warrenton, VA areas. The Fauquier Times usually has the Sunday inserts a week early (i.e. week of 01/24/10 Sunday inserts out in the 01/13/10 Wednsday edition. The Gainesville Times may be more than $.75; just check it out.
I also shop at Trader Joe's in Centreville when I am in the Gainesville/Centreville/Warrenton areas for my "other shopping". Also, I frequent Super Hmart, Whole Foods, Sahara Market & Cafe (Lebanese Market and Cafe--best place for homemade foods), belong to co-ops, etc. If you wish more info, PM me.
One reason we shop frequently at Warrenton area stores, the HT is more coupon friendly, Tractor Supply for our pellets and farm supplies, and Rankins True Value Hardware (locally owned for over 25 years) which is great for service and supplies.
Also, there are the drugstores all in Warrenton/Gainesville area, CVS, Rite-Aid, and Walgreens. At least between Gainesville and Warrenton, 2 of each drugstore. Giant in Warrenton (small store) but friendly.
Dollar Tree store although small--great store (larger store is in Front Royal, VA in front of 200,000 square foot Wal-mart Supercenter or the larger store is next to Aldi's in Manassas, VA), Dollar General is the largest store in N VA ;and clean and organized. Finally, Family Dollar store in Bealeton, VA is the largest store and cleanest in N VA areas.
Also, there are 2 new Aldi stores in Manassas, VA (see web site for location info). We shop sometimes at Aldi as well as Super Target in Gainesville. There is a new Wal-mart Supercenter store in Manassas which is 185,000 square feet. If you wish to go to the NEWEST Wal-mart Supercenter, the Sterling, VA location is 213,000 square feet--2nd LARGEST Supercenter on East Coast.
Giant/Super Giant in Haymarket is 75,000 square feet and very coupon friendly (same size as Super Giant in Ashburn at Ryan Park). Haymarket location will have a gas station by April 2010. Giant accepts Competitor Coupons also. Need more info on this just PM me.
Also, Gilliams Ace Hardware is great in Warrenton. Warrenton has great stores and one-stop shopping areas. Also, I like the Wegmans in Gainesville, VA. Alot easier to get to than Fairfax or Sterling locations. Shoppers Food Warehouse in Gainesville is convenient also.:BigHand:
For the BEST breakfast and country-style cooking, I go to the Frost Diner in Warrenton, read my Wednesday papers and plan my shopping trips, etc. After dropping kids off at school (all 6 go to same school--:hectic1:), I get a "breaK" and finally relax.
Usually, I will shop on Wednesday when the sales are out or on Thursday. The Fauquier Times also has the Family Dollar, Dollar General, and Dollar Tree ads in the Wednesday editions. If not, I will drive by the dollar stores quickly, and pick-up the sales ads and plan for future shopping trips. I usually will have 3 or 4 coolers in my SUV (Ford Excursion) if I have a huge trip to run.:hectic1::rolleyes24:
The are also great craft stores. Julie, for fabric, try the Fabric Emporium in Old Town Warrenton. Great store where I shop for quiliting supplies, etc. Also, there is a yarn supply store in Warrenton also.
If you need more ideas or info of places to shop and save money, PM me or post here.
Yes, it is alot of work, but I get alot done in 4 hours. If you wish to meet up, maybe we can meet one day at the Frost Diner. I make a day of it (or 2 days of shopping) to get "it over with" so to speak!

Foodie- I wondered when you might show up! I sometimes wonder with all the stores I know you shop at, if I have secretly run into you or seen you, but did not know it. I'm seeing more and more ladies with coupons these days. Thanks for letting me know about the Fabric Emporium, I will definitely swing by if I have time!

Wow Foodie! That's impressive! I work in Chantilly/Centreville area and am sometimes down in Warrenton or Madison. I'll have to check some of those out. If you're ever going to be up in the C/C area, you should PM. Maybe we could all meet up for lunch or something!! Have a NoVa in person coupon swap!

Hi, "y'all"--
Yes, that would be great. Maybe we could all meet at the Frost Diner. Since VA is now non-smoking in restaurants, it is easier at the Diner. Although the Diner is small, maybe we could meet there early on a Saturday.
Hubby is travelling to Australia for a business trip after Valentine's Day for a month. Perhaps we can meet up before the 14th of February 2010--sans kids--no kids!:whistle67:
If not, maybe at night, PM me or post her.:shrug7:
Julie, if you pick up the Fauquier Times for Wednesday or weekend edition on Friday, you will see where the Fabric Emporium is located. No web site that I could find.
The yarn shop's web site is below--
www.myfavoriteyarnshop.biz (http://www.myfavoriteyarnshop.biz) (My Favorite Yarn Shop's site/info.)
Ashburn Mom--
If you wish a great Mennonte bulk foods store, (friend of ours since we are Mennonite and our church is in Fauquier County too), try the following stores in Remington and Madison, VA. Two separate Mennonite businesses.
Yoder's Country Market - Home (http://www.yoderscountrymarket.net) (Yoder's Country Market is a Mennonite store in Madison, VA--Pratt, VA area. About 1 hour from Warrenton.)
www.thefarmerswifemarket.com (http://www.thefarmerswifemarket.com) (The Farmer's Wife Market is a Mennonite store in Remington, VA outside Catlett. About 30 minutes from Warrenton.)
I have more resources if needed for Mennonite businesses, farm markets, butcher shops, etc. PM if needed. I will type a resource list when I get an opportunity on a separate thread.

Hi, :-)
I live in Manassas and started couponing in January :-) I am slowly getting a hang of everything, so I will be happy to share what I currently know and whatever I will in the future with new coupon buddies.
Currently I am so excited about saving money that I start talking to strangers at the store when they are looking for something I am shopping for and sharing some of my coupons... I think most of them think I am crazy :-) I would be happy to join any local get together if there is a spot for one more :-)

Hi,
Check out the new Wal-mart Supercenter in Sterling, VA. Over 213,000 square feet, and Julie, I think I saw a fabric department there also. Personally, we shop at the Front Royal, VA Wal-mart Supercenter which is 204,000 square feet. The employees are alot more understanding and coupon friendly--:wink7:
Plus at the Front Royal location, they have a drive-up in the Garden Department to pick-up items, etc.
When we are in Warrenton/Gainesville, VA areas, we just head up I-66W to the Front Royal exit and you see the Wal-mart on the right of the expressway.

Another NoVa couponer here. In Alexandria right now but moving to Prince William county in the next few months. Not sure where, somewhere along the I95 corridor.
I usually do about 2 trips a month to Harris Teeter, once a month to the commissary, an occasional stop at Shoppers. Then Walgreens and CVS about once a week if the deals are good. Not sure where I'll shop once we move. I know what is in Woodbridge, but not sure what is farther south.
Welcome to our little couponing world.

Kate- there have been many times when I'm willing to share a few coupons, so I understand that excitement.
Foodie- thanks for the head's up. As soon as I am feeling better I'll probably head over there to check out the fabric department since the Super Center in Manassas doesn't have one.

Well, I'm back in Alexandria/Lorton now! I'm super excited, but now it would require effort to shop at a HT. I'm looking forward to the farmer's markets, though, and growing a few of our own vegetables.
