I have no idea about them not putting the triples in the ad. I had previously read, on this thread or others, that Bloom was thinking about not doing triples again until the knife sale was over. And was bummed out. Then I read on another thread (not sure I can mention it here) and that poster said that a friend-manager had told them that triples would be held for 5 days starting Friday. I was excited about that... and decided to call my local store, the Anderson, SC, store. Talked to Amy, who answered the phone, and she said she didn't think so but would ask. She came back to the phone and said yes, it was true and it would run thru next Tuesday.

Just called 2 stores in Charlotte and was told they are NOT doing triples this time. Does anyone know of any stores in NC that are tripling?

ok, that explains it. Anderson is not upstate S.C. They are about as close to Atlanta, Ga. than they are to Fort Mill or Charlotte.
It was not in our ad because we are 125 miles from Anderson (and another 125 to Atlanta, Ga.) Source was out of our region. We may get it the next week, or maybe they are cancelling up here all together since HT is beating them badly.

where is up here? (no HT?)
no triples mentioned in Bloom ad is 99% no triples. Grapevine was toooo long on the speculation about the Charlotte area. We'll have them again, I'm confident. They are doing it in regions like Bi-Lo used to do.
They know they have competition problems around Charlotte. We have 2 Bi-Lo's and 2 HT's and 1 Lowes Foods within 10 miles of our Bloom. THAT is competition........and a Food Lion too in that 10 mile stretch.

Yes it is. Upstate is not defined as how close to certain cities in NC.

Upstate SC, that is. BUT all of our other mainstream grocery stores double every day (Ingles, Bi-Lo, Publix) so Bloom definitely has some competition. I really only shop there when they triple, and sometimes in between if they have a meat sale.

cpnmaniac44
07-24-2009, 02:42:40 PM
ok, York County and Chester County and maybe Cherokee are upstate to us.
Greenville, the home of Bi-Lo, does not double up to .99 like they do here, only up to .60. And Anderson is south of Greenville, so what happens in Greenville-Anderson area won't happen in York County. And York County is a few miles from Charlotte so our stores here in York County are basically considered the Charlotte area.
Technically, Anderson may be upstate but not in the coupon world. I really think Bi-Lo should double up to .99 everywhere or .60 everywhere.
-------
any way it seems the Charlotte area which includes York County, S.C. is not tripling unless it was like the one time when they either decided to triple at the last minute the same week as HT, or they extended it from 3 days to a week in a surprise move.

I just saw it in my local newspaper from today that they are tripling until Tuesday. It wasn't in my regular ad either so maybe they changed their mind rather quickly...
But yes, here in Anderson, SC (which is the Upstate) we triple.

So, I highly encourage you to contact your local store, rather than depending on the "traditional" manner of looking in the ad or on the website.

WE ARE COUPONERS!!! We dig for deals, right? Why be passive about something like this????

I feel like I've been abused about this... and about what constitutes the Upstate of South Carolina. Geesh. I was just trying to help! I've gotten a great many deals from this site in the past and was trying to give something back. This has not been a great first posting experience here...

I agree, Scarlet. You definitely didn't get a great reception. Thanks so much for posting about triples since you could've just kept it to yourself.

I just read elsewhere that triples was announced in an ad in The Greenville News, so my assumption is that the Greenville, SC area would be included. I hope that helps someone out.

first post?..........so you do not know what regional tripling means around the Charlotte area. We do not get it the same as other areas. We are definitely not in the Greenville-Anderson area. If the Greenville-Anderson area is having triples GREAT but do not assume the Charlotte are is too.
We do not need to run around calling stores, sending corporate messages, etc. we know how we are alerted, the weekly ad, the website or RELIABLE info for OUR area.

the proof is in the pudding. Are you seeing others from the Charlotte area jumping up and down? It was not on the York County store website or in our weekly ad. So, I go by reliable sources which is the store itself, and it seems we are not having triples in our area. If we were it would have been in our weekly ad or website.
If your area is different and they have triples and do not advertise then this can cause rumors, then fine.

>>>>>>>> You are maybe 25 miles from the Georgia line and you call yourself SC upstate and want us to assume we have triples because you, being 125-130 miles from Charlotte are having triples? <<<<<<<<<

Get real. If we were having triples, we would know it the store would have told us in the mail on Wednesday.......geez....and not look 125 miles away.

At what point did anyone assume Charlotte was having triples? I never saw Scarlet mention that anywhere. She just gave the advice that you could call your store to check. Believe me, no one in the Greenville/Anderson area would call Charlotte part of the Upstate.

I don't usually jump in when people are giving others a hard time, but I really feel like some of "us" need to back off the OP. Good grief! Giving constructive criticism is one thing, but I wouldn't label some of what I've read here by that term. Give the OP credit for trying, for heaven's sake! There are other sites around on which I don't post because I'm not always sure my comments/finds/suggestions will be taken with anything but severe criticism. Don't let the boards on HCW become that way, please! :beg2:

You're absolutely right. Because, you know, stores *never* have unadvertised deals :rolleyes24:

Thanks, OP for the heads up. Even if you hadn't posted back about the locations, I would have called my local stores (both of the Greer locations) in the hopes that maybe they were doing them. You've done the leg work for me and for that I thank you .

I totally agree, I don't usually jump in either. I rep'd the OP for posting her find. I thought that's what we were supposed to do? We all know, just like with K-mart's super doubles, not all stores participate. Since the original post, research was done & the post clarified. It surely alerted everyone to check their stores & gave time for people to email corporate as well.

 Not sure why this is, but this site sure has had A LOT of not so nice people on here lately.

The Charlotte area is NOT Upstate SC. I think those people who actually LIVE in SC know what to call their area. You're the one assuming Charlotte was included by YOUR OWN definition of what Upstate SC is, so stop assuming that when someone says Upstate SC that it includes those areas you mentioned, because it most definitely does not. Maybe you need to come up with another "coupon term" for your area, like maybe the official term of "Olde English District", (Olde English District - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olde_English_District)) but Upstate SC is OFFICIALLY the counties listed in the link in my prior post and that is what EVERYONE in SC thinks of when they hear "Upstate SC."

Thanks Mod for the edit. I did see this thread under two stores. Locations in the title can help too. The Charlotte area customers got in the "hoping" mood for this area when the word "upstate SC" was used. The Charlotte area and York County consider upstate SC to be around here and it is not. "Anderson-Greenville area counties" in the title or first thread, would have made the Charlotte area realize it is NOT us and not to get up any hopes, until we see some evidence like the ad which always states triples. Geographical those counties that are tripling are Southwest S.C. with counties touching Ga. Tripling has always been a "regional" thing. Myrtle Beach area tripled one time, maybe not Bloom maybe some other chain, and Rock Hill did not. Good luck to those who are having triples. The upper SC counties of Chester and York can just hope Bloom has not stopped for good. They should need to triple with 5 other chains (7 stores) within 10 miles of their Bloom store. If that ain't competition then Bloom must be doing pretty well without triples. I find their prices to be high and ads are so so compared to the many B1G1 free's at Lowes and Bi-Lo and the B2G3 deals at Harris Teeter.

I live in Seneca, SC, grew up in Kings, Mtn NC and have family all throughout York/York County SC.

Anyone considering Charlotte NC as upstate SC is wrong. That's like considering Gaffney NC in Georgia.

The NC/SC line does cross Charlotte but only a small part. Actually Kings Mountain, NC has about half of it's land in both SC and NC, the battle ground is in SC.

Upstate SC is the western tip of SC, York is not in that tip and Anderson just barely made it inside the line.

Out of all the family I have in York/York County (which is like 200+ aunts, uncles, and several generations of cousins) York/York County has never been considered in Upstate SC.

Grocery store policys and deals differ in SC than NC and GA. For instance, Bi-Lo doubles to .99 in Charlotte but not in SC or GA. Bi-Lo also has triples for NC and GA but that has not occured in SC in over 3 years.

Bloom has been doing the same deals for the east, except last month when parts of VA doubled. So it's reasonable to think that what happens in one state will apply to the other eastern states but that has changed also.

Best thing anyone can do is verify the information for yourself.

cpnmaniac44 - you owe someone an apology. If you live in Upstate SC - note "SC" it is definitely not Charlotte - it would be the western corner of upper SC - Oconee, Anderson, Pickens, Greenville all fall within that area. There is no need to get nasty because you don't understand someone else's geographical explanation. I appreciate the heads up as I only get the Sunday paper and I live in "Upstate SC."

I live in Rock Hill and all the York County Bi-Lo's double to .99.
I shop there every week.
I never said or meant Charlotte was upstate SC. I was saying our stores double and triple the same as the stores across the line in Charlotte. We are considered a part of "the Charlotte area" as far as coupons. Geographically, we are one of the S.C. counties that is the farthest "north" from the equator. This has nothing do to, of course, with the person who decided which counties would be included and called upstate SC on Wikipedia. You'd be hard pressed to find a person in Charlotte who did not think YorK County was upper S.C. we border the state to the north of us. We are not near Augusta or Charleston. My point is triples in the Anderson-Greenville area means nothing to York County. Our triples would happen the same week as the Charlotte area. And those counties "down there" probably would not have triples the same week as us. The rumor up here is they are not doing it any more up here. You may keep getting it down there once a month but that is up in the air for us.
The thread about triples in upstate SC got the Charlotte area people all riled up about oh, triples, yeah, yeah, when in fact we are not in the upstate area as defined by wikipedia or in the coupon world either. I've been doubling up to .99 at Bi-Lo for as long as they have been doubling. 5 Bi-Lo stores do it in my 15 mile radius. I know in Greenville area they double to .60 (isn't it?) Shame, they should do it the same in all stores. If that cost me .39 per item, so be it. But then again, not many coupons fall between .76 and .99 any way, so really it is up to .75.

You have made yourself more clear but when one person confirms a deal in upstate SC or middle NC or costal GA, not one of those regions means the other will have it also. Just like last months triples where NC, SC, and parts of VA tripled while other parts of VA only doubled.

The point is if you're not in the area that has been confirmed then you need to confirm your area not assume and not get all up in arms when the deal does not include your area.

One more note.... the names of the regions of SC is not defined by Wikipedia or any other internet site. They were defined by our forefathers of SC and I, for one, did not get my information from any website. I know the regions of SC since I've lived here for 20 years.

Why all the bickering from everyone here, isn't this a couponing board? Can't we just get back to coupons and saving money, that is the reason we come to HCW!!!!!!

A. Absolutely........
B. right, I did not assume (my freezers are packed, I had to pass on HT super doubles this week and I know IF my Bloom is tripling it will be stated in the ad, no doubt) but the way the thread was started and not specific, people in N.C. got into the "hoping". I'm sure they regard York County as upper SC since in York and Mecklenburg, N.C. counties all our stores do the same things when it's triple time. The Fort Mill Bloom is popular among Charlotte shoppers. Darn it, when will they finish building those Charlotte Bloom's......?

I dont' know what "they" regard what cities are in what area since I'm not in their heads.

My entire point is just because two areas have had the same deals for several months does not mean that is going to stay that pattern.

You seem to want to hang onto the fact that your ad would state the triples deal if your area were trippling. There are unadvertised deals. Upstate SC ad did not state triples this time around either.

The triples deal is an unadvertised deal.

Darn it, when will they finish building those Charlotte Bloom's......?

seriously?? the ad that was in the Shopper's Guide Tuesday, 7/21/09, did NOT state that they would be tripling this week--the ad in the Seneca Journal Friday, 7/24/09, DID state that they are tripling 7/24/09-7/28/09.

goodness, here i thought that i'd be reading about people's great deals in this thread....wow.
