Ooh - I love the eggs for .35!
Wondering if it can be used on milk? Or is it just the foods that get a 3?
I know it works for 100% of the produce items.

I remember seeing somewhere that it was good toward any item with a 1, 2, or 3. Should be able to use it on whole grain cereal, whole grain bread, milk, eggs, fruits and veggies, fish and nuts. Look on the shelf tag for the blue person with 1, 2, or 3 stars over it's head (see link).http://www.foodlion.com/Documents/Guiding_Stars_Graphics.pdf
I used mine on cherries!

It is good on almost everything in the store that is food and not junk food. There are green shelftagas with a little person on the right side; above the person is either 1, 2, or 3 yellow stars. If 1, 2, or 3 stars are there; the coupon will work on that item. I used mine on the split chicken breasts today along with a WT on meat....$.04 chicken.
Here are the ones I am using when I stop, am I missing any other good ones:
$1.00 Guiding Stars
$1.00 off 3 baby foods (with a manufactur)
$1.00 off Home 360 product
$1.00 off home accents product
$1.50 off Home 360 wipes
I haven't paid more than a buck yet and have quite a collection of free/cheap stuff!

I got the FL 1lb Thin Spagetti today that was on sale $.99...I am down to my last few boxes so I am always happy to get free pasta!
Yesterday I got a gallon of milk for $1.69 (it is $2.69 reg price for FL brand). Today I go back in and it is $2.99 and now the smart option is $2.69 so that is what I got. For me the gallon is the best deal. Hope the SO tastes the same. I don't see any sort of guarentee on any of the FL brand stuff. I was eyeballing the cat litter today for the 360 item and there is nothing mentioned about promising I like it or my money back so I passed.

Not sure how you could work that, because FL doesn't allow more than one coupon on an item. You could get $1 worth of cherries for free. Also the blueberries are 2/$5 so you get them with the $2/$5....

I am fairly certain they would not be a "Guiding Stars" item, sorry. :wink7:
These coupons are for items that have earned "Guiding Stars" - this includes all produce, many dairy items, and lots of other things throughout the store. They are all supposed to have the little tag on them but I have noticed in my store that some items do not (including some of the items featured in the game as having GS! LOL) so I guess you could ask in the store if you're not sure.
But let's all please keep in mind that, while these coupons are broad and can be used on a number of items, they cannot be used on ANY item in the store. This is just a general reminder and not directed at anyone in particular.

The new ones (the exp 7/21) say that you cannot use them on items less than $1 - it is clearly stated on the coupon. It's not an issue of beeping or being adjusted, they cannot be used on items less than $1 b/c that is a violation of the wording on the coupon itself.
The old ones did not have this wording and if the cashier was willing to adjust it down, great. But from here on, we cannot discuss using it on items less than $1, thanks!

...I totally agree with PHmom. Playing by the rules keeps these great deals going. That's why I like HCW so much. Most of the other prominent couponing sites are constantly posting how to use FLIP's fraudulently. I checked out 2 in particular when this FLIP came out to see if they had any finds on what to use the $1 Guiding Stars FLIP on, and I couldn't believe how many posts there were gloating about how they used it on something they shouldn't have.
I shall stick with HCW, where the deals are posted first and everyone is watched over to make sure everything stays legal!
Thanks for all you do to keep this board fraud-free PHmom!

Is it toward getting $ back on something when you checkout or is it to see how much you know when you play the game?

Thanks katncaed! I appreciate you as well - you have been the master of the early ad for the last few months!! :BigHand: And thanks for saying that, some days it is a thankless job being a mod. :wink7:
As far as the Guiding Stars - it is a program to help eat healthier - FL ranks items in the store with stars based on their nutritional value. Things like fruits and vegetables mostly get 3 stars (the best ranking), low fat dairy products get 2 or 3, some bread gets 2, some only gets 1 (wheat/grain breads rank higher - I don't think white bread has any stars). Anyway, the coupons are good on items with stars, signs are supposed to be posted (the shelf tags for those items have the little person with the star) but I have noticed some items have not been updated so I would say either ask, if you're not sure if something qualifies, or just use your best judgment. Chips, snack crackers (with the exception of a few - Kashi most notably), candy, etc - won't qualify. Hope that helps answer your question!
Playing the game gets you the $1 off any Guiding Stars item coupon.

Some stores will let you do multiple transactions, but it is YMMV depending on your cashier. I have better luck going to different stores. I have about 5 stores right within a 5 mile radius of my house so i don't have to drive all over creation to go to multiple stores. I like doing it this way because it is easier to fly under the radar that way.

My stores, all three or four I've been to don't have these guiding stars on hardly anything. But I have been buying cream of mushroom. It's only 19cents after coupon.
They also had some cram of tomatoe that was on closeout for 1.05 so only 5cents after coupon.
I also got some progresso soup on closeout, they had chicken noodle, tomatoe, clam chowder, and chicken with rice. All were only 21 cents after coupon. These have long expiration dates and they make great lunches in the fall and winter months.
Also, I have been stocking up on refried beans, we go through a ton of these with mexican. Also, cans of black beans, diced tomatoes, spagetti (only 9cents), spagetti sauce in the cans, yogurt, cherries and lots of Food lion tuna.
I'm excited we have an extra week. I only found out about this coupon a couple days ago and did many transactons over the two days and dragged my husband and sister out too.
Now, I can slow down and do it like only 4 or 5 transactions each day. LOL:hectic1:

The FL site says that only 7% of soups rec'd Guiding Stars so you need to check with someone at your store to make sure you are buying those that do qualify. I realize many stores haven't placed shelf tags on all the items but we need to be careful and make sure we are only discussing using the coupon on items that DO qualify for Guiding Stars. I am not saying that you are intentionally misusing the coupon but please do not assume that all soups qualify, as I said, the site states only 7% of them do. You can explain to the manager on duty or someone at CS and see if they can provide you with a list.
Again, Guiding Stars items are
100% of produce
51% of cereals
41% of seafood
22% of dairy
21% of meat
7% of soups
7% of bakery
So (general announcement - not directed at anyone particular) please make sure we are all only discussing the usage of this coupon on items that receive Guiding Stars or I will have to start issuing warnings/infractions. Thanks!
ETA - this is also a good time for another reminder that we cannot discuss using the coupons on any item under $1, thanks!

Okay - special thanks to trekkieinsc and katncaed for providing me with some great info, here is what we (they mostly - LOL) have found out:
Some of the refried beans are 1 star items and some rec'd no stars according to the nice man who answered trekkie's email it is an issue of sodium content in some of them. According to him the labels should all be correct soon. But, the FL brand is only .98 at some stores so it still doesn't qualify for using the coupon b/c of the new wording. The Taco Bell brand qualifies, as do Goya, Empacadora and Ducal brands.
Soups - katncaed tells me he checked and none of the cream soups had the Guiding Star label BUT the labels were older so still not 100% on that one. He did see about 10 kinds of soup with the GS label but they sounded like mostly chicken or beef/broth based types. He specifically mentioned Campbell's Beef & Beans, Chicken Totilla, Chicken & Rice, & Beef & Barley.
If anyone else can add to our list - that would be great. The FL website says they do not have a written list available - I was going to post it but, oh well - LOL!

Based on FL's list, 100% of produce qualifies, so that would indeed include potatos.

When I took the "test" this morning it said the salad blends had 0 stars...so how does that figure?
Also, I'm always sad when people say potatoes are not healthy. They are very nutrient dense - providing fiber, vitamin C, and iron, among others.

Well, the problem with nutrients in regular baking potatoes is that the majority of the good stuff is in the skin. And generally when I cook potatoes, they are mashed with loads of salt, butter and milk. Without the skins. Super-YUM! But not super-healthy. LOL.

Whaaaaaaaa! :sad7: Pouty pouty! I always have extras of FL coupons printed ... but for some reason, I can't find a single one of this one! :grouch2:
I bet the day after the new one starts, I'll find a few of these stuck away somewhere :rolleyes24:

Where is the guiding stars game?
The link on the page to play the game just goes right back to the GS info page....I think FL forgot.
Oh please FL - let us play the game again!
