Ok I don't know where else to post this. My parents have a large house and I have all boy cats. They never have marked either of my 2 apartments, but I'm pretty sure they've marked my parents house several times. There is one spot in the formal livingroom I cannot find. It smells SO horrible and has for weeks, if not months. I seriously have crawled around the place sniffing floor spots and couches. I CANNOT FIND IT to clean it up and let it be gone. Any advice??

Go buy a black light. The spot(s) will show up easily (they glow). I know my pet store sells them, but probably wal mart would too possibly.

Thanks for the blacklight idea! I thought about treating the whole room but it's a BIG room with several pieces of furniture. I'd literally spend DAYS scrubbing at it :)

Make sure when you find it, that you use an enzyme remover. Just because we dont smell it anymore doesnt mean the cats wont smell it and go right back to the same spot.

I have 3 indoors cats (2 girls 1 boy) and at first I thought Elvis the boy cat was doing the deed but now not so sure as I have been keeping him in the sunroom and still have problems. Do girl cats do this? Anyway make sure to look on walls and furniture not just the floor. My blacklight showed spots on doors and walls that really freaked me out! Not to mention the dust that glows! My vacuum is not doing its job!LOL! Good luck! I know how mad I get when I have to sniff for pee!

yes girl cats can mark. from my experience the girls like a more private litter box, that isn't diryt. Solved my problem by adding 2 more boxes.

Yes, add a couple more boxes, and make sure to scoop them often (minimum once daily, twice is better).

I was going to suggest the black light as well. :wavehi: I actually have 3 indoor-only cats too (2 female, one male). Our one female cat has done this before but our male never does, so females can definitely do it too. With our female cat it turned out that the problem was that our neighbors were feeding strays. They were showing up on our porch and our cat was peeing to mark her territory. She now lives quite happily and comfy in the basement where she can't see through the glass block windows and she is much happier. She still gets lots of sun and attention, but she can't see other cats through the glass block windows so no marking.

Thanks for the advice guys. I still need to go grab a black light, I think my mom actually got one that came with a pet stain remover as a gag gift. It may just come in handy now, if I can find it!
And I do plan to get a 2nd box when I can afford to get the box I love & when I move back in to their house. My little sister is definitely not doing a good job of keeping it clean. I used to clean it 1-2x a day and she doesn't do it nearly as often.

I have used a product called "Urine Gone" It is sold either with a black light or without. IT WORKS!!! I have 2 indoor cats that soiled a rug several times and this stuff gets it every time! It is rather expensive but worth it! I have seen it at PetCo and Lowes.
Good Luck!

My favorite is Claussen Enzymagic - used by carpet cleaning companies, mostly and very hard to find. It's an enzyme and bacteria solution (you need both). Since I can't find the Enzymagic anymore, I've been relatively happy with Simple Solution's enzyme and bacteria solution (Simple Solution Cat Stain and Odor Remover). I don't have much use for it anymore but used to get it from Amazon on a 4 for 3 promotion. Seems the price has gone up since then.
Don't be shy about using this solution on your carpet, sofa, whatever is stained. You have to get down to the padding and subfloor. You can't hurt it any more than the pee did, yaknow?

I have to 3rd the blacklight recommendation. I dont have kitties, but I have 4 boys and I bought a little one about a year ago to illustrate where the pee shouldnt go ( in the bathroom). When you get it, lol, shine it around your toilet and bust your hubby :hysterical:
