Heidi and I are excited to announce that our HCW college scholarship is now open for application! Last year, we awarded a total of $1100 in scholarship money to Hotcouponworld members. We're going to be out to raise some funds again and help a few members with tuition/books.

Here's the scholarship criteria:

* You must have joined Hotcouponworld on or before January 1st 2009 and be an active member in good standing:

- Active member means any combination of the following: you've been posting, have had good trades (Itrader ratings if you are a trader), have some positve reps, show that you help along newbies, and uphold HCW rules.

* Enrolled in an accredited program that would eligible for federal funds (so some fly by night thing won't work - the program has to have a FAFSA code to qualify as a legit program. A letter from the program stating that the member is enrolled there will be needed. You can be working towards any level of degree.

* Letter to us about why you want to go back to school. There's no word count required, but being concise is always helpful.

* Academically in good standing with your program if you're already enrolled.

* Financial need - although this won't be need based, we will take it into condsideration.

* A letter of reference from someone in their outside community with their contact information.

* Two HCWers (at lease one mod) to vouch for them.

Deadline to apply is Sept. 1st. (postmarked). Awarded funds will be paid directly to the school where the applicant is enrolled.

If you're going to apply, you can send your materials to me via mail or email. Let me know and I can get you the information.

Not enrolled in a program yet?

Here's some links to look at (which support the HHH fund) where you can get some information about programs. Now's the perfect time to think about going back to school...it's a life changing course of action. Take it from someone who's been in school for what seems like forever...nothing makes you feel more accomplished than when they call your name to hand you your diploma. If you aren't currently enrolled somewhere, there's still time to learn more about it.

What a wonderful opportunity you are giving to many members here. Boy I wish I were going back to school this fall. Hopefully this is a more than one time thing, because I would love to go back to school part time sometime.

This is a really neat program! I am very interested in applying, however I have one question. It is my husband going back to school this Fall to get his Masters Degree. He really needs this to open up so me new career options. He has been admitted and is waiting till the registration dates to get registered.

So, is this just for HCW members or does it include their families as well?

Vouch for me please. :wink7:

I will be applying and love you guys for doing this. I actually decided to go back to college last semester. I've been so excited scared at times but enjoying it. My son is in College and I decided to go back and finish something I started. I was ONLY shy about 4 or 5 classes from Graduating!!! Can you believe that and I didn't finish so I've decided to take a leap of faith and just do it. I am only taking 1 class per semester (that's all I can handle at my age...lol) but I'll get it done.

Thank you so much for offering this.

It really is just for our members at this point. We're really committed to helping a member get to the personal goal of higher ed. We want to be able to cheer them on and support them through it.

It is sooo worth it!! I started back when I was pregnant with our second son. I only took 2 classes a semester at first. (working full-time w/ 2 boys.. it was all I could do) Finally -- In September I will be student teaching and graduating in December!! It seems like it was a long way off when I started but the 2 years flew by.

Is there a specific form to fill out?
I am taking 17 credits this semester and have to take a leave of absence from my day job to do it. (So.. I need to put out $5k and not have an income for the semester) That said, I would LOVE to apply.. point me in the right direction.

Wow this would have been a great opportunity. I recently signed up start school again. (after taking 13 years off to raise a family) Money is tight and we don't qualify for financial aid. I have been looking everywhere for some kind of scholarship but I don't seem to qualify for any. Sadly I don't qualify for this one either as I am still a newbie.

It's limited to members only who meet the criteria in the OP.

Wow. As someone who went back to college as a single parent AND who has a child going this fall, I think this is wonderful.

Hey folks -

For those that are considering applying for this, I am heading out of town next week. If you don't catch me for my address for your packet, you can PM Heidi @ queenofthehivemomof5 and she can pass that onto you. I'll probably have very limited internet access while I'm gone!

I know that no news is good news (Grandpa's old Army saying :giggle2:), but for all of us who are keeping our fingers crossed... could you tell us how many applicants there were? Or any other little details to tide us over until the decisions are final?

Thanks a million!!
