MILWAUKEE -- Roundy’s Supermarkets has announced a recall of beef products.

JBS Swift Beef Company recalled fresh ground beef and other beef products because of possible E. coli contamination.

Roundy’s advises customers to check any of these products purchased from a Pick ‘n Save, Copps or Rainbow store for a “Use or Freeze by” date that falls between April 25, 2009, and May 30, 2009.

Any beef products purchased during that time should be returned to the store where they were purchased and exchanged for a replacement product or a full refund.

Customers can find the “Use or freeze by” date in the upper right-hand corner of the meat scale label.

The beef in stores right now is safe, but Pick 'n Save is asking people to look in their freezers and if they have potentially tainted beef they are urged to return it.

"You think about some of the past recalls and the sicknesses that came out and you think, 'Oh no.' I just want to be sure. I don't want to get sick," shopper Jodine Basterash said.

Roundy's Supermarket said that anyone with beef still in their freezer should return it for an exchange or refund.

"Every recall is very serious and we want to make sure our customers stay safe," worker Vivian King said.

The company said it doesn't have any reports of anyone getting sick from the beef they sold, but the recall is part of a larger Swift beef recall.

"We do business with Swift and we wanted to make sure that any products we had gotten from them that our customers knew about it and knew what to do with it," King said.

Roundy's said they are not sure how much beef is affected and they won't know until people start returning the beef how much is left.
