This is neither brag nor rant but I did not see a thread for questions. I just bought 5 Miracle Whips using my 1.00 off Q. They were on sale for 2.99. Well low and behold if they are not 2 for 5 in this weeks ad. I could just kick myself..man I could have saved 2.50 uugghh. Anyways do I just chop this up to lesson learned or do I return them. Since I got my q's doubled and only paid 99 for each one (which is still a good deal to me) how would they do a refund? Would I just get back 2.00? Am I better off just keeping what I have and learning next time to not be so hasty..? Thank you

i'd just say lesson learned. Sign up for the homeland ad to be mailed to ya, you'll get it on monday. I keep track of the weekly sales each week so i know what is or isn't a good price, i've seen several things including the miracle whip go on sale twice in the last 4 weeks.

Thanks..I kinda figured I would have to eat it. Plus I did not want to have to dealwith the assistant manager. All in all 99 for the big mayo is good for me:)

I hate to spoil this thread of inspiring brags with a rant, but I just had to share this experience with someone.

Last Friday morning I went to Homeland to get my weekly cheap/free items. When I was ready to checkout I was disappointed to find this one particular lady was the only cashier open. I've only been to her once before, but found that she really scrutinizes the coupons. By scrutinize I mean she has to read each coupon carefully and she doesn't let any do-not-double's get doubled. I don't mind not doubling the coupon if the coupon says not to. It's just when you have a lot of coupons and she has to read every single one and look at all the items she just scanned to make sure you got the right thing, it can take a while and the people behind you in line get a little impatient.

This particular morning I was expecting the same thing, so I was glad I only had 6 coupons. When it came time to hand her the coupons, she printed off the receipt and laid it to the side. She took each coupon one at a time looked it over carefully, looked up the item on the receipt, scribbled a calculation to determine what I paid for the item after the One Card savings was applied, then entered the coupon manually. So for the Crest toothpaste this week which was on sale for 1.34, she manually entered .75, then manually entered .59 for the double-coupon, so that I would not get any overage. She did the same thing for the Wet Ones (price 1.99, coupon $1/1, manually entered 1.00 then .99), and then so on for almost all my coupons. She did all this manually, calculating the amounts on the printed receipt. I just stood there patiently, thankful that I did not have my 2year old with me. I wished I had looked at the time to see how long it took, because that was the longest I think it's ever taken me to check out, and I only had 9 items. It was ridiculous! But I couldn't help but laugh after it was all said and done when I realized she had missed the Smart Waters... on sale for .75 each and I used a $1/2 coupon, so I did get the .50 overage on those:hysterical:

This store is my favorite Homeland because it is right on my way to/from work and it's easy to get in and out quickly. I've never had any of the other cashiers at this store do this to me. Despite the excessive coupon scrutiny, she seems quite pleasant and has always been polite. For now I've decided I will try to avoid shopping there in the mornings, since that is the only time I've seen her working. Should I complain to the store manager if that happens again? Has anyone had this happen to them? If so, what did you do?

I apologize for the length of this post. Thanks for letting me share and for taking the time to read.

Oh my that stinks! I repped you for your horrible experience!
I probably wouldn't complain just b/c I can see the situation, yes she was manually entering coupons so I wouldn't get overage, etc. I try not to let on the overage we get when the stuff is on sale, kwim? I would just avoid her if I could. I actually sometimes look who is at the cash register when I am walking in the door! LOL

Oh that is awful:sad:. I feel your pain there are certain people I avoid at HL, I always check and see who is cashier-ing.Most of the cashiers just ring up my q and do not even look at them.

Thanks! I'm the non-confrontational type, so it would take a lot of encouragement before I would actually complain :) I do catch myself looking at the cashiers when I walk in the store now, too!

I actually stopped going to my most convenient location because of just such a scenario. I never knew if the "coupon police" would be working at times when it was convenient for me to go, so I just go to a different store now. Of course, if you don't live near many Homelands, that isn't really an option. I haven't had it happen since and it's been over a year since I switched stores.

I've had the same thing happen to me with one cashier in particular (she's an older lady and for some reason all the older ladies believe it is their responsibility to make sure I'm using my coupons correctly). So now if I go in and she's the only cashier I just wander around the store a little longer til I see another cashier open. At my Homeland it seems to come in waves, so I just had to wander for like 5 or 10 minutes and I probably saved that much in time, by not going to her line. Good luck next time and may all your cashier be trusting.

I'm disappointed that HL is no longer putting the ad preview up on thier website on Tuesday afternoon. I hate not getting it until the day it starts. The fact that no one on here is getting the ad through the mail early anymore makes the problem worse too. Even when I got the ad mailed to me, half the time it wouldn't come until the sale had started anyway, but that is another rant.

I just sent them a comment on thier website that I wished they would put both ads up for a day or two, so I could continue to get a leg up on my meal planning for the week (didn't mention the coupon trades I also want to get a leg up on).

I posted it BEFORE this thread was started. It was deleted and I PM'd her and never got a response. I don't know. It should've been moved to this thread. Whatever. My experience was just as mortifying as the PP with writing down on the receipt and the LOOOOOONG line of annoyed customers waiting behind was humiliating. I haven't been back there since. over a month ago. THankfully there are a handful of other HL nearby.

I received one when I lost my OneCard and had to apply for a new one. And then when I updated my address or something of that sort....it's been a while though...

I'm not sure there is any ryhme/reason to it!

I live in the Tulsa area, and Homeland is the only local store listed here on HCW. If they (Crest, etc) are not listed in the grocery store forum, then there isn't a forum for these stores.
Homeland is on the HCW site due to their constant up to $1 doubling of coupons. There's just not enough of a need in Oklahoma to have forums for every store.
Hope that makes sense.....

I bought a few of glue bottles, glue sticks, and crayons on Tues. night. Got home and put the bag up until last night. Opened the bag and one glue bottle had already busted on the side. As I was rinsing the glue off the other one, my thumb went through the side of that one. The plastic on both bottles was weak like possibly they were left over from last year and had gotten too hot in the store room. And then I noticed, not as big a deal, but the front of the crayon boxes had been slit by a box cutter up at the closing flap so the flap will fall off after it is closed a couple times. I'm not going to raise a fuss with Homeland over .40 worth of glue, but thought you guys should check them before you sent them to school with kids.

I was in the Haysville store this morning, and was told by the cashier that she had been told not to double DND coupons anymore. She said the company was losing money by doing it,and as the economy is bad, they would cease doubling them as of this week. I was bummed! No free dan active for me.

please be sure that it's not just an uninformed cashier. I was just at homeland the other day and the cashiers said nothing to me.. but then again they just scan the Q's and move on.

The same thing here..most of my cashiers just scan them thru. I have had a few who check every q to see if it says DND. It is usually the older cashiers. The new ones and the young ones just scan anything thru.. Well I take it back I had one young cashier check to see if it said DND the rest who check have been older.

I know that they are becoming a LOT more strict on DND coupons. Probably someone tipped them off that they were going through. I know that the last few times that i have gone to homeland, if the coupon says DND, they punch this button so that it won't double. I think they are emphasizing it to their new trainees as well.

Is it the fuel for school rebate? Do you mind me asking what you bought and how much it cost? I guess what was your scenario for the rebate? I noticed some of the q's say "Limit 1 q per purchase of products indicated" Just curious. Thanks

OK. Are you basically looking at what is on sale first? or looking at your coupons first? I need to figure this out.
Thanks.

Once again Homeland never ceases to amaze me. I purchased some regular priced items as well as some clearance items from their clearance bin and they would not take coupons on the clearance items. The coupons wouldn't have given me overage on any of it and it was only three items.

Here's my brag for the week. I paid $5.48 for all of this, and the heck of it is $2.37 of that total was just the sales tax. So if you don't count that, it was $3.11. My receipt showed that I got 95% off. Can't wait to go back and do it all over again tomorrow!
