It seems my coupon spot (i.e., small paper dumpster conveniently located right outside a card store) has dried up, so I was out and about today asking various stores and shops if they throw out their papers at the end of the day. Every single one told me that they have been asked to send the coupons back to the paper. One shop owner, showed me the paper bag with a label that said "Newsday coupons". I have never heard of this before and was wondering if anyone else has run into this. I am so disappointed, don't know what to do .

thats what happens around here, the person who delivers to the store has to pick up the unsold ones, when they off the new ones. i dont think its been any different here. sorry to hear that your stores are doing it now

This started about 2 years ago and supposedly Newsday won't refund the money w/o them. You'll also find the Post only has the SS and Daily News RP - all the papers used to carry all the inserts and they were very good. There was some problem and the papers actually stopped all inserts for about 1 month. Now Newsday pulls theirs back...but you can still find places that don't. My local gas station guy told the Newsday people he wasn't going to stand for 1/2 hr pulling all the coupons out...they still reimburse him for the unsold papers. 7/11 also still throws them out and if you can find some very busy place that throws a lot out you may get lucky. btw I'm sure the inserts don't actually go back to Nday, they just get thrown out.

I actually get bundles from a really busy deli in NYC and all the inserts are intact including the ones in Newsday. I think it would be really impossible for this particular deli owner to take out inserts from over 200 papers though.

The PP is also right, the Daily News, Post, and the Times used to have really great coupons but now it's truly hit or miss, the Times doesn't even come with the P&G inserts now:shrug7:

I carry for a local paper and in order to get credit for unsold papers we have to return the papers with all inserts, including coupons. I used to take some of the inserts out but stopped because I didn't want to get in trouble. I was told by my single copy supervisor that they don't actually check each paper everyday, only when they do audits. But, it would be my luck they would check my Sunday paper when they do an audit. However, we also deliver a free publication once a week from the same publisher that includes the same coupons that are in the Sunday papers so I just take the coupons out of some of those instead. The funny thing is most people don't even know they are in there because I usually still pick up at least half of the free publications each week and thus get more q's because those papers don't have to be turned back in to the publishing company.

When I was first couponing I used to find the papers still bundled left in grocery carts by a supermarket disposal area. So I would just grab the sections with the inserts, I think 25 in each. Every store has to actually put all the sections of the papers together before they sell them. I'm assuming these people have access to them like
momtocj7mea and sell them. I believe this is the reason they're pulled back by the papers now.
