View Full Version : Horrible Urbandale Fareway experience!

I usually always shop at the Grimes Fareway but this morning I was right by the Urbandale store so I stopped there. When I got to the checkout the cashier told me I couldn't use my SuperTarget coupons. When I told her that I usually go to Grimes and they always take them she paged the manager. There was no manager in the store, so she ran around asking several cashiers whether or not I could use them. After about 5 minutes she came back and told me I could only use the Target q's or the mfr q's, but not both. When I told her that the Grimes store always allows me to use a store q and a mfr q for each item she said, "Well, we're not the Grimes store." I responded that my neighbor always shops here (Urbandale) and just used the same coupons the other day and had no problem. She was unwilling to do anything else so I told her to just void everything. She seemed surprised that I didn't want to buy anything but I told her if I have to go to Grimes to buy half of my groceries I might as well get them all there. She unloaded my reusable bags and I left empty-handed. After dragging my one-year old daughter around the store for 1/2 hour to pick out my groceries you can imagine how irritated I was!

So has anyone else had this experience in Urbandale? Can someone post a copy of the coupon policy? I saw discussion of it in another thread, but can find an actual posting of it.

Thanks for letting me vent. I feel better already. But I'm definitely sending a complaint letter to corporate!

Sorry you had such a lousy experience. I don't even know where the Urbandale Fareway is, but I shop at the Grimes Fareway on a pretty regular basis. I had no idea they would take Target Qs and am so thrilled by this I am bouncing off the walls! They will really stack a manufacturers Q and a Target Q at Fareway? OMG this is awesome!!!!! I live almost an hour from Des Moines so I only get into town about once a week and this would be a great discovery. Thanks so much for the info. and so sorry again for your negative trip.

The first time I went to the Harlan Fareway 4-5 years ago, a cashier told me the same thing. I had a manager called over, and they said the same thing. I put everything back that they wouldn't let me use it on - and called the corporate offices and the store head manager the next day, I was not only apologized to profusely, but soon after had a job there :giggle2:

Call the store manager, call corporate. Let them know what's up and you should see results! :BigHand:

Since we don't have Super Target down here in Ottumwa they will not take the Target coupons or price match things like Walgreens. I have had price matched them at Hy-Vee but last time I went Hy-Vee would not take the Target coupons... oh well worth the try.

This is all news to me, and no, they never sent me the coupon policy I requested. I should send another e-mail.

I'm starting to think there's no "official" policy here - I can use IP's at some, but the Marshalltown store won't. Because of this, Fareway has dropped way down on the list of stores I shop at.
