Signs are up in the store now.
Food World will be closed Thursday to reprogram the registers.
Will re-open Friday at 7 AM, and will open at that time until it is over.
Discount (I was told, could be incorrect, but...) will be 25% to 40% off to start. More off as the liquidation progresses.
I was told conflicting accounts of coupon usage...One said no coupons, another said they will take coupons but will not double them.
All pharmacy customers have been transferred to CVS.
The ad for this week is null and void, there are none in the store.
This is it folks, get it while you can. Be there when the doors open.
Good luck!

Don't know yet. Need some folks from other areas to check out their stores and let us know. This is the Pell City store.

I was interested in the Pell City store and thought that was the one you were mentioning but thought I'd check.

When the store in Bessemer went out a few months ago I was so excited to get some good deals...well I was very disappointed. The prices are so high to start with (yeah, I'm tight :hysterical:) that NONE of the 25-50% off is a deal. Its still cheaper at Walmart than the discounted FW prices! JMO

I'm guessing this is for the stores that are closing, because there is a new ad on-line this week (at least there was last night ending 5/12.)
When Albertsons liquidated some of their stores there were huge signs outside that said "up to 40% off." As the pp mentioned-- I too went in and checked things out, and the prices were jacked up to full retail and most of the items were 10% or 20% off that price. So basically you were paying $4.99 for a box of Froot Loops with a whopping 10% off ($.49). Not cool.
My store is staying open so I'm hoping they keep these triple coupon deals coming for a while longer!

In the printed ad I got today, there were a lot fewer stores listed at the bottom saying "prices good at". Pell City is not listed but McCalla is still on there so I'm praying it will stay open!

Yeah, that's my thinking, too. The price, full shelf price of course, is the one the "discount" is going to be taken off of. Still way over Walmart's price, even with that. Sad. This is the kind of thing that helped put them under.
Then, if you wait a day or two for the discount to increase, you run the chance of what you wanted to stock up on being gone.
Oh, well. It might be interesting to stop by Friday and see what's going on, and say Goodbye to everyone.

Just called the McCalla store. They are open today until 5 and will close to reset the computers. She confirmed they were closing that store. Sad to hear that. I shopped there every week.

i was told that they would start liquidating at the end of this week and would be closed by the end of may. Too bad. that only leaves winn dixie and walmart now. I got way to spoiled with those marked down produce items.
Start weeding the gardens folks, the recession is just digging in.
got my info from a disgruntled cashier.

I went into the McCalla store yesterday and it was a mad scene. There were tons of people in there. The signs sad that things were 25% - 50% but the highest I saw in the store was 25%.
You could tell that most people were non-couponers because they were loading their buggys down and the prices were not good at all.
The lady told me that they have until the 31st but they probably won't stay open until then because they won't have anything left.

I know, I was there on Friday morning and people were running around with full carts like they were giving it away! I'm hoping they slash prices again soon for better deals.

I'm relocating to another state at the end of the month so I can't take advantage of these sales. I just drive right on by, wishing I could restock my deep freezer.

Does anyone know if the Pell City store is accepting Coupons??
BamaLady

According to the big splashy ad in the local paper, the Pell City store is taking coupons at face value, no doubling.
I have not been in the store since this started. Don't think I can stand to go in and see my store dying. The "discounts" are not worth going for, as I've been told it is not as much as advertised. The parking lot is jam packed every day, and I guess these folks are thinking they are getting a deal.
Now, all of us here, former FW shoppers, are in a quandry as to where we're going to go for groceries now. The options we have left, WD and WM, are not acceptable to us for various reasons.
Twenty five years ago, before FW/Bruno's came to Pell City, one drove to Irondale, or Anniston. Looks like that may be what we have to do again. Or, buy milk and bread at the corner quik-mart, and once a month go out of town for a re-supply of major goods. Just like the old days.

Yesterday was the last day for the McCalla store and there was nothing left. There were a few vitamins, some diabetic socks, and some greeting cards that was it.

Don't bother coming to Anniston. We don't have anything other than Wal-Mart, Winn-Dixie, and Save-A-Lot! I wish Kroger would come here! Or Publix!
