Did the % off come on before coupon price, or after coupons?

Dying to plan my first food perks usage. . . I'm up to 14% after my fill up today. . .

Who'll be our guinea pig?

When they first started the program the cashier immediately asked me if I wanted to use my Food Perks before deducting the coupons. Sounded great to me but I didn't want to use them that day.

When I went to use them last week the cashier deducted the coupons first then applied the Food Perks discount. She told me that she got in trouble for applying the discount previously before coupons. My guess is they weren't sure in the beginning but it seems to me at least in my store they've been told not to do it before coupons.

My store was doing it before Q's. The SCO asks before Q's.

I had a total of about $100+ preQ and $40 postQ. I had 7% discount and figured I'd try it an see how it worked. Should have taken roughly $7.48 (I think) according to the screen. After all was done it only took off about $6.+ Apparently there are items excluded from the discount??? I bought all grocery items (no alcohol as they don't sell it in stores in PA, no tobacco....etc.).

It was definitly a preQ discount though because otherwise it would have only been about $3.00.

Still not a bad deal to me if you build it up to the 20% and use it on a large order.

I had the 5% and used it on a $120+ order. Before coupons is said my discount was $5 something... after coupons it was $4 something. I think it was because I bought Spray n Wash and batteries. I believe the discount is on Food only but I don't know for sure.

Hi all

Ok, think I may have figured it out but is could also be a math coincidence. I think they use the Foodperks discount after sale, and coupon savings but before bonus coupon savings (the second line under the savings section on your receipt)

I used my Foodperks last week and this is what I calculated:

Total Bill $281.34 (before any discounts including sales)
( 25.45) (mfg coupon savings)
( 10.95) (bonus cpn savings)
( 93.93) (card & str coupons)
OOP 151.01 (46% savings

On my recipt is says that my 6% Foodperks savings was on $171.82 which was a savings of $10.31.
This is how I got to $171.82:

$151.01 is what I paid so I added back the $10.31 Foodperks discount which comes to $161.32. Then I added back the Bonus coupon savings of $10.95, which then comes to $172.27, then I subtracted out my tax of $.49 which gives me a total of $171.78 which is a difference of $.04 which I am just chalking up to rounding and tax. So it seems that the Foodperks comes off your total after savings and coupons but before the bonus (double) coupon comes off.

I know this is probably as clear as mud. I only have one receipt using Foodperks so far so I am not sure if it is exactly correct or if the math just happened to work this way.

thanks for your replies!! sounds promising. I am thinking I will use mine on a big BOGO meat purchase. I've gotten so used to buying $20-$50 a week at a couple places. . . to save up for a BIG ONE will be tricky.

Having worked at Giant Eagle in Columbus Ohio and having had them for a while...
I know that you can take them off right away, but as you use your Q's the % off will adjust automatically and go down as the total due goes down.

I always wait for my q's to go through, then I decide if it is worth me using them or not! :)

I have another 7% saved already (We own gas guzzlers - lol!). I am trying to get it as close if not at 20% and use it on a large meat order. I'm figuring if I get the right sale I can stock up several varieties with a nice discount.

I may use my 13% today. I was planning on getting lots of the kens marinades, Paper towels, dial soap, mustard, Lipton tea, Yesterday's news kitty litter, and some misc stuff. I am obsessed with spending $300 but it is so hard! I am planning me trip now. I just hope it is all in stock!

I was told last night it is only food. Someone else mentioned that here. Do we know if that is true?

It is off food, HBC, household and pet items. Basically all the stuff you earn fuelperks on except for the gift cards. It has been around in Columbus for about 9 months now and it is great! The % comes off after the coupon total, so watch what your total is after coupons before deciding to use it. They are good for at least 90 days, and just like the fuelperks, it will tell you if you are getting close to losing any before you actually do.

I just used my 20%.

The cashier asked you if you would like to use your foodperks after they ring your groceries and before they take the coupons off.

Our bill came to 500.00, -60.00 foodperks, minus coupons - 25.00 gift card for mystery shopping then our bill came to 177.00 then recieved 17.00 oyno catalinas. plus earned .40 gas perks. The food perks discount still counts for fuelperks but not the coupon discounts

So for the Pgh area it is before coupons. This was at the regular cash registers not the u-scan.

Did my first foodperks order yesterday. I was up to 42% or so and needed to cash in before the end of this month and with the baby catalina running (thanks to Pittsburgh24) I cashed them in. I think I did good. Got a lot of meat products and the baby diapers (why are newborn so much money?) and lunch meat.

111 items and spent 139.14 OOP.
saved $42.42 in food perks
Total savings was 48% or 134.67
coupons 39.50 (manufact and bonus)
card and store cps 95.17

earned 11.50 OYNO coupons.

Not as great as the above poster, but I had my two littlest ones that included a 2yo.
Cant wait for my next big run!

NE Ohio is still waiting. :( According to what I found, Salem has it, Alliance (15 min away) doesn't. I think it is different markets. I emailed and asked when we were getting it and the responde I got was that they didn't know. :(

Salem is youngstown market, and Alliance is Canton market.

I used my first discount a few weeks ago. I did a big meat order when they had hamburger and pork on sale. It was about $150, after foodperks and in store meat coupons, it was $99.

I know this sounds silly, but I have raised a family of six, and have never spent that much at the grocery store at one time. I sat in my car looking at the receipt almost crying. I think I am having a love hate relationship with the discount. I have mine up to 28%, and then argue with myself that the total isn't enough to use it, and then argue with myself that it hurt so bad to spend a $100 that I didn't want to do that again. So I just let it keep adding up.

stupid discount is going to drive me into therapy!!

nicc, I know what you mean about the "love/hate relationship" with foodperks.

My discount is up to 26%, but I do such small orders at Giant Eagle that I haven't been able to justify using it yet; it's not really worthwhile unless you do a big shopping trip. I buy discounted meat early in the morning at another store, and the prices are really good, lower than what I would get at Giant Eagle even with the foodperks discount. No babies in the family, so can't use them on diapers or formula, we're not big consumers of soda or snacks, and there never seems to be a good meat sale AND a good toiletries sale during the same week, or I would stock up on shampoo and body wash for my college daughter.

I've never spent $100 on a grocery order either, not even right after I got married, when we needed EVERYTHING!

Any suggestions out there?

I am in the same boat. I buy discounted meat at Community market early in the morning.

Went tonight and did a $109 order - only 94.xx counted towards food perks discount. Figured out that the cat food, solo cups and milk didn't count.

But, it came off before q's so, I paid 42.xx for the whole order and it was mostly tyson chicken, crab cakes, chicken wings and microwave fries (I splurged for my son LOL) and a dozen bags of Uncle Ben's microwave rice that I had free coupons for. I also got a $5 cat for buying 5 of the Post Honey bunches of oats, .50 cat for buying 16 friskies cans and .50 for buying a solo cup. I also get to mail my receipt in for a $10 rebate from Kelloggs since I bought 10 pop-tarts.

I have been keeping lists of items that I need to buy (that are brand specific) that rarely go on sale. Find those items, get some coupons if you can, and then buy way more than you could ever need!

My Items were:
240 Loads of Cheer
360 Dryer Sheets
5 Boxes of Splenda Sugar
200+lbs of Fresh Step Cat Litter

I have to go today! I know I'm getting all the kitty litter they have, $20 of sushi, all the cinnamon Switzers, and most of the OYNO deals.
I think I hate this discount.

Well, I finally used my foodperks because 12% were due to expire and we were out of chicken. I don't think I did too badly; I bought 8 frying chickens, discounted lamb chops, pork kabobs and chicken livers (for DH), San Giorgio pasta, Keebler cookies, and a lot of the produce that's on special this week (grapes, broccoli, mushrooms, Fresh Express salad) plus 2 of the glade soy candles. Saved $10.44 with foodperks and paid $36.01 for everything; plus I got a $3.00 catalina for the free candles and still have 10% left in foodperks. Not as good as some other posters, but I'm happy!

Thanks for your suggestions JohnnyChimpo! http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/images/smilies/thanks%207.gif
