Received an unexpected Cat today: $1.25 OYNO Thanks from Ziploc. No other details listed, so I'm not 100% what triggered it. I bought 3 boxes gal. freezer bags with expandable bottom and 2 boxes sandwich bags...

Please forgive me all as this was the first time calling the Cat company. I was on hold for about 20some minutes and DS was getting impatient with me so I didn't get very much info other than it is buy 2 get $1.25 OYNO. I don't know if it is only certain bags (like the sandwich) or if the reason I only got 1 Cat is because they need to be rung in separate transactions or what. I also don't know the dates for the deal. I'm sorry!! I will call back!!!
If the Expandable Bottom ones are included though:
(2) @ $1.67 each = $3.34
- 1.10 each = $1.14
Get $1.25 OYNO = $.11 MM!!! :D
I will call back armed and ready to get more info but I need to wait for DS (who is has me typing one handed right now-lol) to take his nap. If in the meantime anyone tries the deal and has more info - please post!

Just called back -
Looks like it is on Freezer bags only - he said he has 45 or so listed and they all say freezer. So it was the expandable bottom ones I bought, although now I am sad because you could buy more than one set of set of 2 in a transaction and get multiple cats in a transaction! I bought 3 :( For GE the promo runs 4/16 - 5/13 so we may be seeing an upcoming ad for this.
YAY on the MM!!!

woohoo - bought 2 gallon expandable freezer bags - got the $1.25 cat
The bestest thing about this is, the $1.25 cat won't require cashier intervention (that's only for $2 and above q's) so, this will be a great deal to do at the SCO's

Haha - that's exactly what I was thinking - ohhh I get to set up shop at the SCO and won't need anyone's help!
So, if I get 2 freezer bags - 55cmqs = $1.14. Then get a $1.25 cat. Next I could do 2 sandwich bags - 40cmqs = $1.74 - 1.25cat = 49 cents. I'll have to grab a gift card so I can just do 5 or so transactions a trip and not need to bother anyone and no one will have to bother me :-) I love it!
I'm glad I ordered 20 more of each coupon LOL

Heck yeah I'm excited too! I hate hate hate spending money on plastic bags...especially the sandwich bags for DS's and DH's lunches. I remember when I was little my mom would make me save the plastic bags and bring them home for her to use the next day LOL They're not allowed to do that anymore - DS has to throw everything away, including any leftover food. I guess the school makes them do it for safety reasons. But my gosh, carrot sticks and cookies arent going to go bad between lunch and home.
And I try to do like my mom always did and wash the storage and freezer bags...but they usually end up sitting in the sink and getting to gross and I toss them out. Guess I'm not the best at being 'green'.
I hope 20 of each is enough...LOL

04-23-2009, 11:13:41 PM
I'm the same way - I hate spending money on plastic bags! And garbage bags (spend all that money on something you throw trash in????) I don't rewash bags because I am afraid I won't get all the food out... just paranoid I guess! That's interesting the school makes him throw everything away. What if they have a thermos or rubbermaid container?? Or are they not allowed to bring those?
I got 20 too. I hope it is enough!

Let me get this straight:
1. We're saying that there are 45 different Ziploc FREEZER bags that will trigger this.
2. Buying (2) will get you $1.25 CAT
3. CAT comes out during scanning so we can do multiples in 1 transaction
4. Ziploc Freezer bags are on sale @ GE 3/$5 ($1.66 ea)
How long does the CAT promo go on?

I bought (4) qt. freezer bags and (2) qt. storage bags in the same transaction. Both said expandable bottom on the box. The storage bags and 20 in a box.
I received two $1.25 OYNO cats. I guess the storage bags don't work with the catalina deal.

I'm confused will it work on sandwich bags? I thought someone posted it is only on freezer bags.

04-24-2009, 01:27:43 AM
no, not on the sandwich bags - I'm just going to use the 1.25 oyno on sandwich bags since i need them :-) And since I can't 'roll' it into another set of freezer bags because the total is less than 1.25 using the 55 cent mq

Thanks for explaining that. I didn't realize it would be less than the actual cost of the bags with coupons. It is a pain adding stuff to your order every time.
Thanks for the tip about using the gift card. I always have an issue using my credit card for the same amount on multiple orders. I never thought about using a GE gift card. Going to give it a try.

Just got home - did my first transaction with a ton of coke and 2 freezer bags, got the 1.25 oyno and then did 4 more transactions each having 2 sandwich bags and 2 freezer bags. The total was 1.91 for the 4 boxes after using two 55c mqs and two 44c mqs and rolling the 1.25 cat. Now I just have to wait for my coupons I ordered so I can get more! LOL
Watch the count in the boxes though - I mistakenly picked up a box with 5 more bags (15 instead of the 10ct that's on sale) and it rang up 2.99 Ouch! I'll be taking that one back tomorrow for sure!

Hey neeky, did you buy the gallon sized bags only or did you buy the Qt size too? There was another post about the Qt bags not working on the deal, but it wasn't confirmed whether the poster bought the freezer or the storage. TIA

I bought both quart and gallon sized freezer bags and they both worked fine.
Considering they're paying us to buy the freezer bags, I'm sticking with them even though there's less bags in each box!

jen276, that was me. I just looked at my receipt and the packages to confirm. I bought 2 boxes of Easy Zipper Expandable Bottom Freezer Bags 15 ct. The price on the receipt is $1.67 each but no cat printed, cat machine light was on and green. I will probably call the cat company today since I can't really go to CS with this issue. Anyway, I will stick with the gallon size.

I am kicking myself....lol...bought two boxes of bags today. Had DS in my arm. Took both off of same shelf from same spot. Pay at register, no cat...I figure, I'll call when I get home. Get home look in bag...One of them was storage bags!!!! Ugh!!! Teach me not to assume things are in the right place!!!!

I wonder how long the bags will be on sale? If I order coupons today I bet they wont get here in time unless I can find some close and it would still be a risk.

Here's a trick I use all the time, but it only works if you have a really good cashier...
You know that the Ziploc bag catalina promotion will last until a specific date, so go to Giant Eagle when the Ziploc shelves are bare (typically late at night, or as in the case with the Ziploc bag, anytime in Monroeville!) and get a rain check. If you need a lot, go to the head cashier for a few and then to customer service for a few more. You can still get a rain check even if only one kind of the product is out of stock. (I got rain checks for 60 of these bad boys, in increments of 10 so as not to arouse suspicion).
Here is the catch: An inexperienced cashier will redeem your rain check and charge you "$1.67 Grocery". This will be bad for you since your coupons would beep (since Ziploc was never entered) and you won't get the catalinas. An experienced cashier will use the Giant Eagle price adjust feature to type in $1.67, then price adjust, then scan your item so your receipt will say "$1.67 Ziploc". In this case, your coupons won't beep and as long as you redeem your rain check before the promotion ends, you will still get your catalinas. The register will lock up when you go to pay and a manager's key will be required, due to the price adjust.
This way, you can get your cheap Ziploc bags AND your cats!

I make no guarantees.... :hysterical:
j/k - I hate when I find shelves cleared too. I'm so close to my GE's that I usually shop over the full week, buying a few here and there. I figure others have the opportunity to buy, the store has the time to restock, and by the end of the week if they are still there I can finish out my buys.

I got an email that said they shipped yesterday which I am guessing meant today. She (I assume she) lives close that's why I like to order from her so if they don't come tomorrow I would guess they will be here wend. If not then I will have to try the rain check, although it would depend on who is working. Most have to call or look in the back to make sure there isn't more. But if I get the lady that knows my mom she would do it :whistle67:

Allow me to mention what I am dealing with with some Giant Eagle cashiers ...
When I present a raincheck for redemption, some of the cashiers ask, "Q) Can we honor rainchecks from other Giant Eagles?
Ugh!

I know, its sad that sometimes I find myself having to tell the cashiers how to use their register, but then again I was a cashier at a grocery store for almost 6 years. And from what I understand, there are some random GEs that won't accept rainchecks from other stores (I went on a rain check spree Wednesday night, and the one place stamped their store info on the back and said they only accept rain checks from their store).

Bethel Park does that (stamps the back) - you can avoid this by going after 10 and getting the cashier to issue the RC

Regarding this Ziplock Catalina offer ...
+
Strike #1: I'm thinking it was Hefty and not Ziploc (fortunately I did not purchase any).
Strike #2: I ended up purchasing storage and not freezer ... thus now Catalina was waiting for me (I did straighten things out at the Customer Service Desk).
Ugh!

Excellent news for those that got rainchecks:
When the cashier prices adjusts an item due to a rain check and the item is already on sale, it rings it up at the rain check price and then takes the additional sale price off!!
For example:
Ziploc Bags
Shelf price: $2.49
On Sale: $2.19 (-$0.30)
Rain Check: $1.67
Register: $1.67 - $0.30 = $1.37
Therefore:
(2) Ziploc @ $1.37 each = $2.74
$2.74 - (2)$0.55x2 = $0.54
$0.54 - $1.25Cat = $$$$$ PROFIT $$$$$

I forgot to use them. I might try tomorrow night using both q's but, I always feel uncomfortable using a bogo and $$ off q at the same time at GE - which is weird because I always do it at CVS :giggle2:
