View Full Version : Has anyone received their Free Black & Decker Dustbuster?

Ok. Its been Eight weeks for me so I called P&G Rebates and asked about this. I explained the promotion, Buy $30 of P&G Products from a participating Giant Eagle store and get a free Black & Decker Dustbuster and the lady checked into my rebate.

It has been DENIED.

I spent over $30 after coupons (as I was unsure if it with work if the coupons took the total below $30), but because my Giant Eagle Receipt just listed 'Air Effects' instead of 'Febreeze Air Effects' the cost of these has not been included and I therefore, according to them, did not reach $30 needed for this promotion.

The lady I spoke to was very nice and said that once I recieve my rejection letter I could argue this with them. The letter should be mailed to me soon.

Has this happened to anyone else? And if so did you get a positive outcome?

TIA

That is ridiculous - poor you. So what other company has "air effects" - isn't that phrase trade marked by Febreeze? I would have the manager at the store write a note about their register tape - that should clear it up.

Lame!

I just called and mine was shipped on 4/20/09. The one I sent to my BFF's is getting a letter. Total receipt was short due to coupons, probably won't get the one I sent to DD either.

well crap - where is everyone calling? I think I got air effects on almost every receipt and none of mine totaled $30 - I can't believe that they are going to pull that one on us, especially since several called and they said coupons wouldn't matter.

but because my Giant Eagle Receipt just listed 'Air Effects' instead of 'Febreeze Air Effects' the cost of these has not been includedUGH! My receipt that total right at $30 before coupons also only says Air Effects. I don't recall if I typed Febreze on the separate sheet or not or if that would even make any difference since the tally sheet is not official. I guess I will find out soon enough.

My other order did not total $30 after coupons either, but everything on the receipt has the brand name so I guess that is a wait and see too unless I call. I purposely took that chance though because getting $OYNO was more ideal for my family than the dustbusters.

I imagine very few spent $30 after coupons and I imagine P&G are going to have quite a few rebuttals on their hands if they required $30 spent after coupons since it was not stated on the form and some of the customer service representatives said, "before coupons".

Wanted to update since I went ahead and made the calls. 1.866.538.5230 (Thanks to Neekyme for the # on an old post on another forum)

Mine: The lady said I did not meet the requirement of $30. I said I did purchase $30 worth and then she asked if I used coupons and said it was before coupons and stated the form said the $30 dollars must be purchase price paid(meaning before coupons). I said the form did not say that and that customer service previously said coupons did not matter. She just said I have to wait for the letter and call back. :wink7:

I couldn't remember if I sent the Air Effects to my address or my mom's so I made a second call just to check if coupons affected the total.

Mom's: Gentleman said everything looked good and should receive the dustbuster soon. :smile77: So mine must have had the Air Effects and that was the reason, not the coupons.

You would think someone at P&G would wonder why so may people were submitting so many receipts with air effects on them if they weren't P&G products.

Argh - well, I'll at least get 1 - the one I sent in DH's name has only Gillette razor, Pampers, and Oral-B toothbrushes. But the other 2 have Air Effects....

You would think that they would realize that it doesnt ring up 'Febreze Air Effects' after looking at how many submissions from Giant Eagle and seeing only 'Air Effects'!

I sent in another one, but copied it instead of scanning it - so I have to find that one and see.. But it was a test one with the total spent OOP less than 30$ with all the coupons I used, so they may reject it just for that. I think I had a lot of oyno's I used, so maybe I could use that as a defense LOL

I think I am going to try and argue this point, that GE always puts 'Air Effects' NOT 'Febreeze Air Effects'.

I just googled "air effects" with quotes and nothing, that you would find in a grocery store, other than Febreze comes up.

They are going to have a lot of peeved off people if they don't realize what's going on soon!

I will argue the Air Effects point AND the "$30 after coupons" point. The full page ad in our 2/22 SmartSource actually had a small pic of a P&G insert and said "in most Sunday papers." To me, this means that they intend for you to use the coupons on your purchases!

Guess I'll be calling for mom soon. I called on mine and it was shipped on the 20th. Can't remember what was on what at this moment as that stuff is packed away with half of my kitchen (we're getting ready for a remodel). Mom is so excited to get her's...

Double checked via the Giant Eagle website and I bought the Air Effects on both. So, I'm hoping it will all be fine for mom, but I'm calling tomorrow anyway.

Oh no! I bought Air Effects too. If I don't get my dustbuster I am going to be so upset  I'm too afraid to call and be told I was rejected. In my 100+ years of rebating, I have learned this ...

+

There is the issue of the benefit of the doubt.

The consumer has the upper hand if there is a denial based on what is asked for ($30.00+ before / after coupns) or what is printed on the receipt.

The consumer has no control as to what is printed on the receipt (description wise).

+

So, I recommend ...

First wait for the letter of denial.

Then, call the toll free number listed and have you paperwork (photocopies or scanned images) in front of you.

Stick to your point that you did indeed follow the rules of the promotion.

If you do not get satisfaction from the operator, let them know that as a customer you are not happy and that you want to speak to a supervisor.

Do not take no for an answer and get names, dates, times.

Usually, they will give in stating that, as a one time courtesty and that they they want to keep you as a customer, they will ship the promotional item.

A snail mail letter to the sponsor is your last resort.

+

The thing that you do not want to do is put off contacting them about your submission being denied.

With each person calling about their submission, it will become clear to the sponsor that there is indeed a major problem with the promotion.

I remember a recent BIC razor rebate that did not state a start or end date (receipt wise).

Many, including myself, were sent a letter of denial.

A couple of months later, a rebate check did arrive and I am betting that the sponsor realized that the offer was misleading and to right a major wrong, they mailed out rebate checks.

I bought $30.00 worth of Pampers. I believe there was a cat deal at that time and I had a lot of Frenchs cats I used towards the purchase. I just called and she said I was getting a letter . She gave me told me it was because I used coupons....GRRRRRRRRRRR. I guess I'll have to wait until after I get my letter to call again.

Nice!!!

Update. Used all the suggested arguments. Now my case in under review. Had to fax all again to get them to review. Although the lady did say that it would take two weeks or more for them to review my paperwork.

I wanted to say something like look at the receipt it clearly says $30.10 spent = Dustbuster authorized, but I had visions of them telling me that I did not buy $30.10 of P&G products as $2.11 was tax!!!!

I got one in the mail today!

The weird thing though - it was the one for my son (lol) And his receipt had Air Effects on it! It had 39.80 (based on shelf prices!) in P&G stuff, total OOP was 32.xx - I made sure to buy lots of groceries on the same receipts.

I just added up the sale prices and the total was 31.50 - but on my receipt I circled them, and then noted "P&G Items = 39.80" LOL

Looks like it may be the luck of the draw on if you get rejected for Air Effects or not. I havent gone down to the mailboxes though to see if I got any rejection letters.... Gotta call my mom and see if there was anything at her house too. I forgot to write down the date I mailed each one - oops.

I received mine today, too! I didn't think I would get one because although my purchase was well over $30, I used free 2 Cascade rinse aid coupons and a number of other coupons which put my OOP under $30. I asked my cashier to subtotal after scanning just the P&G items and before I could stop her she pulled up the register tape a little and wrote the subtotal on my receipt. I also cut off the coupon summary part on the bottom of the receipt before sending it. I figured with all of these oddities I would not receive a Dust Buster after reading that some of you had been denied. I guess it was my lucky day.

I received mine today. total of items purchased was $32.00 before coupons. I bought 2 Gillette Mach3 disposable razors at $6.00 each, 4 Oral-B toothbrushes at $2.50 each, and 4 Dawn dishwashing liquids at $2.50 each. My total receipt including taxes was $30.04 after coupons but included other grocery items.

I received my rejection letter today and so I called again. Lady insisted it was because of coupon usage and so we talked about that and then I mentioned the Air Effects. After we discussed Air Effects vs Frebreze Air Effects she gave me another address and a name to resend the receipt and form to and said to explain the Air Effects and also write the last five digits of the barcode if I still had the Frebreze. My total was 33.17 sale prices before coupons and 28.17 if the the Frebreze was not counted. I don't know what it was after coupons as I didn't figure it out even when the lady kept asking ,respectfully, and I kept insisting, respectfully, that should be irrelevant.

Mom's mail arrives in a couple hours so I will know if that was accepted like customer service told me last week. On that receipt it was over $30 sale under $30 after coupons and the receipt was under $30 even with other groceries on it. GAH! LOL

I got one rejection letter today. Just got back from the mailboxes :-) It was the 'test' one I did that went by shelf price LOL It was stuff I needed like batteries. I totally didn't expect a dustbuster for it, but figured I'd try :-) They used red pen to mark where the sale discount came off hehe I feel like I should see a big 'F' in the top corner like a test.

Now I just have to wait to see if one went to my MIL's and one went to my Mom's. I'm crossing my fingers!

Hello all, I'm a newbie to HCW---just wanted to report that I received a rejection today for my free dustbuster.

"However, we have processed your request and you do not qualify for the program as you did not meet the minimum out of pocket purchase requirements as stated on the form"

My oop on the receipt was $22.56, I totally forgot to add in milk, etc

I plan to call, it drives me crazy when a company wastes my time, kwim?!

Does anybody have a person's name that they talked to about coupon usage, I would love to say "I called and talked to ..... and she said that I could use coupons..." something like that. ... ANy help is appreciated!

Ok - my elderly friend got her rejection letter today. I just called and spoke with Janet.

1st I was told that the total after coupons could only be $3 less ($27) and I asked her when they found that out. She said from day one. I told her that when we called, we were told that coupons would not make a difference and that the ad specifically said - look for coupons. I also told her that our ad showed items that were 4/$10 and 2/$10 and nowhere did it say you could only use 3 $1 coupons.

Then I was told to return my info to her and that she would work to get me my sweeper. I also told her my sister, my neighbor, etc. had all done this deal because it was such a great deal and could I give them her name and addy - she said yes. I'm not sure if I can post it here or not.

I told her she was going to be getting a lot of calls because a whole bunch of us did this deal at Giant Eagle because it was so great!

This is what mine said too. So much for the guy last week telling me my mom's looked good. The rejection arrived at her house today too. grrrr We all know the form or rules did not state out of pocket or after coupons. I have read and reread that form I don't know how many times. Sorry I am hashing rehashing and stating the obvious and I'm the one that said it would be no big deal and now I'm making a big deal. :rolleyes24:

This crummy and unprofessional (it does not even contain a telephone number) letter arrived on Monday, 04/27/2009.

+

Return address on the #10 envelope with a window:

P O BOX 6100
DOUGLAS AZ 85655

+

They enclosed my submission (form, receipt, and envelope) and no where on the form is the term “out of pocket.”

Also, under the form, I purposely left on the wording from the Sunday insert:

“Look for money-saving coupons in the 3-1-09 P&GbrandSaver.”

Q) So, they are telling use to use the coupons but not with this premium offer?

I will let this situation ferment (since others will soon be receiving the same letter of denial).

Then I will call:

(866) 538-5230

Letting them know that I did indeed purchase $30.00+ of items and that they have a choice:

Either ship me out the Dustbuster or be prepared to deal with the State of Ohio's Attorney General's office.

It is their choice.

+

Right now we are dealing with the fulfillment agency hired by P&G.

Since they are doing a crummy job at processing these submissions, I figure we will end up dealing with P&G.

I will give the fulfillment agency one chance to right their wrong.

All the fulfillment agency or sponsor has to ask themselves is:

Q) Is there is high rate (percentage) of denial letters being sent out for this promotion?

If there are, then there is something wrong with the handling of this promotion!

Ok just got of the phone with Deborah and she sort of perked up when she heard this argument. (for the record I did not enjoy Sandy with her "Deborah is just going to tell you the same thing BLAH BLAH BLAH)

If I had purchased my $38.50 of P&G (I paid 21.80) along with $30 worth of Unilever products my Receipt would look like I spent $50 and there would be no way to tell what my coupons were for. So people are getting dust busters that only paid as much as I did.

1) it did not state that amt was after coupons &
2) it states right on the ad "look for money saving coupons..."
Giving the impression it was acceptable to use coupons with this promotion.

Deborah sounded very receptive, almost anxious to get my fax..and mentioned the phone was ringing off the hook.

I received the same denial letter and called today to argue the promotion. I was given the guilt trip at first "Maam, what was your total after coupons?"
"Thirteen dollars, but it was well over thirty dollars before coupons and the promotion states 'purchase 30 dollars in P & G items' to qualify for a free dustbuster NOT pay 30 after coupons".
We bantered back and forth for a few minutes...I am pretty sure she was trying to get me to give up, but then she said I am going to have to send this to a supervisor and then we will get back with you. I asked her if she could give me an estimate when that would be, because I was planning on filing a complaint if I did not hear something soon...well she then said "oh, can you hold on a second?" and then said they were going to send the information to p & g and let them make the final decision.

I hate to make threats, but it seems like filing complaints gets things done so much quicker. I did the herbal essences free pedicure rebate and they really yanked me around, but as soon as I filed a BBB complaint they called within 2 days to schedule my appointment at a very nice salon.

I got mine today, but I'm doubting my mom will get the one I sent to her. My receipt total was $30.87 (of which $2.39 was tax). The only reason it was that high was that I bought a Snugglie blanket for my gram also on the same receipt. On my mom's though, I know the total was not $30 after q's. Guess I'll be calling once she gets her rejection.

This offer is referred to as a 'premium offer' where a sponsor is offering something if you purchase their product(s).

It is very similar to rebate offers.

Both demand strict compliance to what is requested by the customer, otherwise you will receive a letter of denial.

It is important to keep copies of what is submitted (I scan and save as jpg files what is submit ... saving trees).

I give the scanned image's file name an intelligent name like:

20090228_giant_eagle_dustbuster_offer_01.jpg

+

In this instance, the fulfillment / sponsor has upset many customers by not honoring their end of the offer.

So I got a message from a guy at P&G saying he spoke to his manager and will be sending out my dustbuster- I saved the message, sure wish I would have spoken to him! Has anyone else got a response like this?

Now I need to call on my mom's!

I called the number on the form we sent in- 1-866-538-5230- I'm not sure if it is the same one posted earlier or not. I think this is the actual P&G number.

I spoke with Dan too, I told him I wasn't sure why I had received the letter. Then he took down all my information and telephone number and said he would review the case and call me back. I asked him when and he said within a few days- I spoke to him yesterday, and he called today.

Hope this helps.

Well, I got my dustbuster yesterday. Did the deal for my mom, and she was denied. Told not enough out of pocket. That was their words!! I am calling them tomorrow. I got the swiffer refills, cascade and dawn for her. I got the same things, but used more coupons for hers because she didn't have much money that day.
When they sent the letter, they included the receipt with the envelope and the form. She sent it certified/ return receipt, so they can't even tell me they hadn't received it in time.:BigHand:

I called the the fulfillment center. I spoke to Renee on Monday 27th, she had me fax my stuff as they could not find my earlier fax or record of my earlier call. She asked for my phone number at the same time and even called me back to confirm that she received my fax. HTH.

They promo center called back a day after I called them and said they would be mailing out my dustbuster. So my advice to anyone who received a denial letter is just to politely, yet sternly, call and voice your concerns and let them know you will be filing a complaint if you do not receive the item promised.

Dateline:

Thursday, April 30. 2009 @ 12:17 PM ...

I called:

(866) 538-5230

and spoke to Janette.

I stated that I just received a letter of denial for the Dustbuster promotion.

Right away she said that those letters had be sent out by mistake and that in a couple of weeks people will be receiving their Dustbuster via USPS mail.

+

I did not have to mention the "out-of-pocket" issue or anything else to defend our side of the situation.

It was a very short call ... about one minute.

+

It is worthwhile to call them because they will ask for your last name and zipcode to "Mark you off their list."

If you are not marked off of their list, you will receive a call from them stating that you will be receiving the Dustbuster.

I wonder if this one is for the one where you had to buy 3 large items (which would explain the $3 limit in q's - 1 for each). I guess if it's a different p.o. box, it would be considered a different offer.

Is this the same deal? or did they open it up again? When sponsors offer a rebate or a premium promotion, there is a good chance that there are different offers.

One way you can tell is by the mail-to address or by the stated dates on the required form.

+

Here is information take from the form that is submitted:

03/04/2009 = offer ended
03/11/2009 = postmarked by date
03/18/2009 = received by date

+

Mail-to address:

BLACK & DECKER P&G OFFER
P O BOX 6016F
DOUGLAS AZ 85655-6016

+

That letter F in the post office box is a clue that there might be different 'regional' offers.

By appending a unique character to the post office box, the sponsor can tell what offer (advertising) generated that thar response.

I received 1 of my dust busters but received a letter for my other one.
Both of them had the same items so I called and they said that it wasn't enough due to coupons used.
So I told them that my other one came and I used the same coupons with that one.
They're sending me another one now.

Although I'm worried that the next promotion they have will have a 'Rules and Restrictions' clause longer than a novel LOL

I had received the rejection letter plus my originally submitted form, receipt & envelope back from them a few weeks ago....receipt total OOP was $20-something for Febreze "Air Effects" and Duracell, before coupons was $35 I think.

I hadn't called to complain - been meaning to, just didn't get around to it....

But now I don't have to because my Dustbuster arrived in my mailbox today with an apology.

Here is what I will be doing ...

I will photocopy the enclosed letter and then mail to both the fulfillment agency and the sponsor a dose of constructive comments.

Q) They need to get their act together, P&G is not a rinky dink operation ... or are they?

+

There is a reason why these offers are called 'promotions.'

They exist to promote products and when things go bad (very baaaaad), it ceases to be a promotion!

Sooo, if they are sending out a metric ton of denial letters, they need to first stop, take a very deep breath and investigate what the heck is going on.

This Dustbuster promotion will go down as a case study as to how not to conduct the fulfillment of a premium item promotion.

Q) N'est pas?

+

Not to worry ... constructive comments only better an effort for future promotions ... they do not scare them away.

The market is just too competitive to eliminate or reduce the number of offers.

+

Also ...

Sponsors are always looking for feedback.

Thanks so much for all the posts reccommending calling them when you get a rejection letter. I too received a letter about 3 weeks ago. I proceeded to call and was told that I would not be getting a dust buster because I paid $0 OOP. The next day I had a message on my answering machine telling me that they made a mistake and would be sending out my dust buster. (Wonder how they got my number????) Then yesterday, I came home to my dust buster sitting on my porch steps lol

They tried to call my mom to tell her it was coming, but the phone was all screwed up and they killed it (AT&T and their it must be a problem on your end & we'll be charging you $70, grrrrrr).

Well, 2 days after mom gave me her rejection notice, I called and spoke to Renee'. She asked the name and zip code. They had sent all stuff back with the notice. But they kept records, and she pulled it up. First thing she said was the notice was sent out by mistake and they were sending it out in a couple days. She was really nice and we just talked a little. She asked if coupons were used, I told her yes. She said there was a problem with the coupon thing and they were honoring those rebates. I did tell her the promo didn't say anything about not using coupons. But she was extremely nice and polite.
Mom got her dust buster about 3 days after the phone call.

Mom got her dust buster about 3 days after the phone call. The thing is that this promotion did use a 'tie in' stating right below the form:

"Look for money-saving coupons in the 03/01/09 P&GbrandSaver."

+

I guess it is a case of:

The left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

- or -

They do not have a premium offer user on their design / composition team.

+

Imagine ...

A company like P&G messing up royally - with all the millions they spend on advertising and promoting.

I too received a rejection letter. I called about it b/c the only thing that was circled was the date. I had bought other stuff too so my total was 50.XX. I did pay with a 20.00 gift card so I don't now if that had anything to do with it but I was told to mail it to a certain person and about 2 weeks later I had it on the doorstep. I think it works great too!

I received a rejection letter, as did my step-father. Both receipts were about $8oop AC. I figured they had advertised the coupons on the rebate page, so they intended for me to use them on the items I purchased. I planned on calling but kept putting it off (I know, I know). About 9 days after the rejection letters arrived, I received my Dustbuster. A few days later, my step-father received his. Both boxes included a very nice apology letter.

So... thank you everyone who called!
