View Full Version : Giant Eagle ~ Vent Bad News Re: Internet Printables

I hope this wasn't discussed before and I missed it. I just got back from Giant Eagle. My store is a corporate store and has always taken internet printables. Today when I checked out the cashier took my two IP's but told me they will not be taking them any more. She said they received an email from corporate and are not to take them. Apparently they have gotten stuck with too many fraudulent coupons.
It's so annoying that some people abuse the system and the rest of us suffer for it. ARGHH!!!

What GE store do you shop?

This was at the Giant Eagle in North Huntingdon, PA. I specifically asked them if it was an issue at this store only and they said no that they had received a memo from corporate.

This was bothering me so I decided to call the store myself and ask a manager about this. I went to the Giant Eagle website and there was no mention of the policy changing. The person I spoke with talked to the store manager. She said that IP's are at the discretion of the individual store as to whether or not they accept them. As of now, they are still taking them but will not take BOGO IP's or anything over $3.00.
They asked me for the name of the cashier and I gave them the name on the receipt. I guess she didn't know what she was talking about. The strange thing was the person shopping behind me was another GE cashier. She also acknowledged this memo.
Anyways, sorry for the false alarm. Is there anyway to delete this thread?

I say leave the thread - it is just another example of how important it is to speak to management/corporate when issues arise. Cashiers, although (hopefully) well meaning, do not always know the policies and procedures of their store and mis-informing the customer of potential changes is an issue because it could change our shopping habits. A few months ago I would have just stopped bringing IPQ's instead of speaking with mngt first. I would have assumed the associate was trained properly....Now I know better, thank goodness, and I won't waste my hard earned money on a false statement like this one. Thank you for the follow-up!!

Good point. The thing that threw me was the fact that two cashiers were mis-informed.

From working in retail - rumors don't take long to get around a store LOL One person says they saw a 'memo' or heard about a 'memo' or wished there was a 'memo' and next thing you know it's corporate policy to never take IPs and everyone must wear polka dots on tuesdays LOL
Glad they were misinformed though - I'd hate to go up there and not know about a policy change. Oh and VegasGal - did you see there's another Walgreens going in up there across the street!! How exciting!

Did the Walgreen's open in Greensburg yet?
It seems like they've been working on the Walgreen's site in North Huntingdon forever. I'm thrilled though that it's coming. It's only a mile from my home. I've also heard rumors for years that Applebee's is going in there too.

My GEs stopped taking IPs for about 2-3 months, but are now accepting them again. I think it was the VrlMktg (?) scare that caused them to stop taking them. Much to our relief, they are taking them again.

My sister works at GE in North Huntingdon. I also sell Avon to a bunch of
people there. I will try and find out if any of them has heard anything.
Sure hope it was mis-information, if not I won't be shopping there anymore;( I have enough hassle with Rite-Aid.

Argh - no...every time we drive by I hope to see a 'grand opening' sign LOL Or at least a date on the sign. But nothing, other than that they are hiring pharmacy techs. I was going to call them, but I get too panicky on the phone LOL Maybe I'll get the nerve up one of these days to call and ask if there is a grand opening date set yet.
Latrobe is getting an Aldis and Walgreens (and a new bank - and I think my sister said a restuarant was going in, but I can't remember what) They don't even have the parking lot done there yet.
Nyvania, do you shop at the RA in N.H.? I've never had any problems there - the store manager seems so nice. But I don't go there as often as the one here by Walmart.

Walgreen's must be the topic of the day. I'm going to Vegas soon and on the Trip Advisor forums people are all excited that there is a Walgreen's opening center Strip on Friday. Finally a place to go and get bottled water at a decent price. You can imagine how it kills me to pay $3.00 a bottle when I can get a case at Giant Eagle for $4.00.
I finally went into the Rite Aid in N.H. a week or so ago after months and months. When they first switched over from Eckerd they refused to let me use two coupons on BOGO items. Prior to that I could always use them. I stopped shopping there and complained to corporate. I was surprised when I went there the other day to get the Jane make-up (thanks for posting that by the way) and they let me use them. I don't know who the manager is but a younger guy in a tie greeted me when I left the other day. He seemed real nice. I wonder if that was him.

Yes I shop at that one, as well as the one at Norwin Hills. I never had
any issues with the N. Hunt until the past two weeks. One was a issue
with gum, they raised the price so you couldnt get it free, but one still had the original price, which they would not allow me to purchase at the
shelf price.
Yesterday was a horrible day for me there, I purchased several items, but
had got the natural mouthwash off the clearance rack which was $9.99 but 50% off, when it rang up, it rang up full price, so that started everything off bad. Then I handed her my coupons, and she argued for a
good two minutes that they didn't take IP's. I have used them there many
times, sometimes 5/6 IP's at a time, with no issues. After some arguing,
the other girl came over and said they do take them, but only up to $5.
Which must have just recently changed in the last week because I used
far more than that in the past.
So if that wasnt bad enough, after I got home I realized I got charged for
3 Herbal Essences, when I only purchased 2, and she didn't take the coupon off for that, so I had to go back to the store, and go through more grief to get that taken care of.
I have also had a issue at Hills, usually when I have used the $5/$25 Rite-aid coupons, they take that off before the rest of the coupons, the girl at
Hills argued with me thru the entire order, she wouldnt take it off until we
took all the rest of the coupons off to see if my total was still $25 or more. I was fuming.
I only live 2 minutes down the street from where they are building the Wagreens, I am waiting impatiently for that. I wish there was more options
up this way to shop at.
I am still trying to learn the ropes with all this couponing stuff, so when I
run into grief, I start to get very frustrated. We are struggling right now
with 3 kids, and self employment, with little/no business. So any money I
can save helps, I just feel like its not worth the stress I get at the store sometimes.

Neekyme:
I just called Walgreen's. They don't have any info on a Grand Opening date for that store. Don't waste your time calling. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for calling :-) Gosh, I wish they would hurry up and open it!
But, yeah, young guy - he's the store manager and super nice. He's a deal finder too, guess he's the guy his friends and family call when they need a deal on electronics LOL We chatted one day while he was ringing up my stuff and I mentioned that I always have to find my baby sister makeup deals. That same day I swear he ran to the office to print out a 5/25 for a customer in front of me. He told her to hold on a minute - ran to the office - ran out and said that he was printing out a coupon for her and that he took it off her bill already! (I can't think of anything other than the 5/25 - she was buying home interior type stuff LOL)
There's a couple cashiers there that I try to stay away from - but most are super friendly and seem to love seeing the deals I pick up. Instead of grumbling they always say how good I did LOL
That Jane makeup will be BOGO again, starting 4/26 :-)

Aww, I know it can be frustrating - but don't give up and don't let it get to you. If the transaction is quickly going downhill, you could always ask for items to be taken off - or return items later. Sometimes you do have to take the bad with the good. The store down in Jeannette is a pretty good store and so is the one across from Walmart if you're ever out this way.
Most of the cashiers at the one on rt 30 by walmart will take the 5/25 before coupons - there's only a couple there I worry about, but they've never really given me any problems LOL But I hold my breath if they're checking me out. The store manager is nice there too, havent talked to him much - but he doesnt seem to mind couponers.
I hear you about tight times - DH just finally went back to work this past week, and already he's off for several days because they don't have much scheduled just yet. And 3 lil ones here too :-) Thankfully I've been doing this for a year now and my stockpile is pretty good - most of my shopping any more is for deals only, and maybe milk/bread/produce.
Hang in there! It gets easier :-)
