I just wanted to pass this along. Kroger has started giving me .03 for every cloth bag I bring to use vs. having them pack my groceries in their bags. I haven't even had to ask, they just automatically do it at the end when they see how many were used.

I've been given quite a few free cloth "earth friendly" bags as premiums lately and have been taking these along. I've also gotten a few for free because of rebates. Not only is it better for the environment, but it saves you $, too! Even if you end up buying the Kroger cloth bags they sell, they'll eventually pay for themselves. :BigHand: I think right now they're priced 4/$5.

Last week I saved an extra .24 off my bill. Not bad for something super easy! I just leave them in my car so I don't forget them.

I had them do this in Jackson once. I asked about it at my local store and they spent forever asking different people what to do. Finally, the manager came and told them they could take .03 off my order (even though I had about 5 bags). I tried several times after that and got the same response so I finally quit asking. Evidently it is one of their policies, but don't be surprised if you have trouble getting it enforced!

My Kroger in Poplar Bluff is great about doing this. They give me $0.03 multiplied by however many bags it takes to hold all my groceries. Even the self-check out lanes ask up front whether or not you will be using your own bags. I'm guessing that buy answering 'yes' the self-checkout person is notified to give you the discount.

Personally I prefer using the cloth bags because it is so much easier to carry everything out to my van using three cloth bags as opposed to six plastic bags.

My Kroger is usually great about this too! We've been using our own bags for a couple of years now, so they all expect them when I show up in the line. ;)

Also right now, if you go to The Design a Reusable Shopping Bag Contest with Kroger (http://www.designareusablebag.com/?cid=blog23.green2) , and submit a design, you'll get a credit on your Kroger card for a free one of their reusable bags!

Mine is really good about giving me .03 per bag that I bring! I have about ten of their bags, some of them are being used in our freezer right now but it still leaves six or seven for me to take each week.
