I have found that if it starts with a "5" I can usually get the cashier to scan it anyway, just so they can "see" if it will double. As we know, any coupon that starts with a "5" will double automatically by the computer. If it starts with "9" it won't regardless of what the coupon says.

Most cashiers are pretty cool with letting the computer sort out the issue - the way I understand it is if it starts with a "5" and says not subject to doubling, then it is at the store's discretion to enforce/honor it.
