This is the e-mail I sent yesterday:

This comment is pertaining to your coupon policy. I really love when you guys do triple coupons. But your everyday coupon policy, well it stinks! Most every other chain stores have updated their policy, so, why can't you guys?

Reply from Ingles:

Ingles has been doubling coupons far longer than most of other grocery stores. We double each week, and triple occasionally. We feel this should provide customers ample opportunity to use their coupons to the maximum advantage. We appreciate you being a loyal customer

For some reason this does not surprise me. They have a monopoly on grocery stores, in my area at least, so there is no competition that forces them to change. I'm doing whatever I can to not use them anymore because after 10 years I'm really tired of their poor service!

Ugg, that's awful. I pretty much only buy their meats b/c they have good sales on them. Otherwise, pssh. Plus, they're not that close to me.

ETA: I finally just sent them a comment about the policy too.

Ick! Gotta love them for that. :rolleyes24: I moved to Asheville, NC just last year and started couponing around Sept/Oct. I started out @ Ingles (they are located w/in 1 mile one way, another is 3-4 miles the other way from my home).I thought I was doing okay but then I finally figured out where 2 different grocery stores are and I've been doing so much better at those 2. Mind you, every now and then I will swing in there for a meat on sale or my DD's Laura Lynn brand Kool-Aid mix (only one she will drink) but I don't see any good deals there anymore. When they had triples, my mind was crazy with "how much do I need to spend to use this amount of coupons", etc. Who wants to spend $10 to use THREE coupons? Not this gal! Gladly taking my business elsewhere! So neener neener neener on them!

My DBF says that the reason there is no Publix around here is because of Ingles. Could someone fill me in on that (if you know)? I hear they made a deal with Publix not to build in NC but they didn't hold up their end in SC (Ingles didn't that is). I lived in SC for 32 years and there are Publix and Ingles. There is even a few locations built across from each other! :shrug7: I don't get it!

Exactly. Some friends of mine said they went during triples and they didn't even pay attention to the 3 every $10 rule. I must have just gotten the strict cashiers or something, either that or they just don't like me there.

Ingles is based in Asheville, which might be why there's such a monopoly there. Hey, there are so many Publixes right down the road from you in SC, just come here!

Sent an email to them about the policy, got the same canned email that you got, AWise, except at the end it said "We appreciate your comments and thanks for contacting us."

AHHH THIS REALLY IRRITATES ME AND MAKES ME NOT WANT TO EVER SHOP THERE AGAIN!!!

:giggle2: I'm not driving a hour to Publix every week or two! Though my wonderful Grandma, bless her 83 yr old heart, works at Publix (@ Thornblade) handing out samples. She saves me all of her coupon inserts and gives me blinkies from Publix or the little books with coupons that Publix hands out. I think I may have to do a little shopping there when I go visit next time. :wink7:

Oh, that's one of the two I frequent! I'll have to keep an eye out for her when I'm there!

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled Ingles chat. :smile77: <--whoa, where did this come from?

Ingles Markets is also the owner Of Sav-Mor stores in Asheville,NC.
Sav -Mor does not double coupon at all.At one time it was called Best Foods .They did not double either. These are located on Patton avenue & Merrimon Ave.

Does anyone know if it is against Ingles policy to accept coupons on markdown items? I found a great deal on mascara today, but they refused the coupon.

That's pretty dumb! I had problems using coupons w/ rainchecks too! Ingles doesn't seem too coupon friendly. I don't have an answer to your question but IMO it would be stupid if it was against policy.

I have used coupons on marked down sandwich meat before. Not a problem. I think it has something to do with the "generic" markdown labels they use and the computer sees that there has been that product purchased. But I don't see why they couldn't add it manually. We are still buying that product.

I tried to use a coupon this morning on Dan Active Yogurt that was marked down. They said No. No coupons on clearance. That is just silly. I will keep my shopping at Ingles to a minimum. In this day and age, the stores have got to be more friendly to coupons.

I will be talking to the store manager this morning to see if it is an actual Ingles policy. I will keep you posted.

Ok all..I just finished speaking with my Ingles in Seneca, SC...there is a new email going around today from corporate stating that Ingles WILL accept coupons on markdown "buggy" items with orange/red price tags...YAY

Now, my deal on mascara is for the Cover Girl Lash Blast waterproof Volume mascara..it is on clearance for 3.00..but some are marked 3.50..so watch out.
I combined with the Cover Girl Q for any product for 1.00 off from PG 4/5 insert...so final cost was 2.00. Not bad, and its good mascara.

Just because you pioneered it, doesn't mean you should still stick with the "pioneer" ways. Every other local grocery store we have here doubles every day as well, and they don't have limits based on how much money you spend. Bloom doesn't double every day, but they have been tripling once a month and it's more worth the drive (3x further away).

I have been told different things by different stores and different employees at the same store! In March, I was told by a manager that corporate had sent an e-mail saying NO coupons could be used on markdowns, but who knows?

The fact that Ingles chooses to mark down products in this way and then uses that as a reason not to accept coupons is bad business practice. Since they have stopped taking coupons on markdowns where I live, I have only shopped at Ingles ONCE (in 2 months) and I used to go every 2 weeks or so.
