View Full Version : Disney Movie Club - anyone a member?

Not sure which board to ask about this on. We got an invitation for the Disney Movie Club today and I'm wondering if anyone is a member and how much trouble it is.
We've done book clubs similar to this before, they can be a pain because you have to make sure to select for them to not send the featured selections each month or you get charged for them until you can mail them back, but we've been trying to build our Disney/Pixar DVD collection and getting the first several for a discounted price would help quite a bit. :giggle2:
Is it easy to go to the website and make your selections each month? When you've bought enough to meet the requirement, is it a hassle to cancel your account? If you forget to decline your featured selection and send it back, is getting your cc credited a hassle?
TIA for any advice!

I can't answer the other questions, but I can tell you that it is easy to go to the website to say no to movies and you also get plenty of time to cancel in my experience. I would also suggest to look online for the best deal possible because I found a great deal online that was way better than what I was offered in the mail.

Personally, I wouldn't join. But I hate the hassle of it all. I compare the DMC to BMG & all those other book/music clubs that you can join. If you're doing it for yourself, it may be worth it, but I always think it much more hassle than it's worth. (Of course, that's what many people say about coupons too...).

I did it for awhile and to be honest- If you forget to deny your movie for the month they will send it to you for around $27.
I had trouble when I canceled and they sent me more movies and charged them on my card.
I thought the deals weren't that great.

I'm a member and I love it. I joined to expand our collection too. I love it. We've gotten A LOT of movies. You do have to keep on top of it, but their customer service is really nice. They once sent me an extra movie but it was no hassle to send back - they sent me the return envelope and everything. I recommend them.

I joined about 2 months ago. You have to commit to FOUR movies in two years. I only have ONE movie left to buy! I did the introductory offer, bought one with that, bought two more. So far I've spent about 50 dollars and gotten 7 movies. I just bought 5 more for a total of 55.xx. I will continue my membership after I fulfill my commitment. I really like it.

I don't personally belong, but looked into it last summer. The prices seem extra high after the intro. My aunt said that she thinks she is spending more on the movies than if she had gotten them at Best Buy.

Sometimes you'll pay more for a movie , I just spent 28$ on a collectors edition Lilo & Stitch. It depends. When I scored my movies for 55.xx this last time many were movies like Homeward Bound and Homeward Bound 2 that my oldest son used to love but my small DS has never watched. Sometimes its about being able to find some older , much loved films. It depends on what your looking for. Can you get them cheaper somewhere else...sometimes...but I factored in the cost of the introductory and the ones I'd have to buy and would pay the same amount for all the movies total at walmart. IF you could find them there.

quick question for those who are in the club already, are the movie rewards points still included in the DVD's? And, do they have a lot of the Disney Chanel Original Movies on there? I have been debating on joining this for a while, and get on HCW and saw this! How perfect is that? LOL

Most of the movies DO have the points, not all that I've ordered have had them. Mainly the mainstream titles/newer titles have them. The older ones I've ordered do not have them. But thats cool, I'm happy just to find some of them! Hope I've helped you!

I can say we received the combo deal on the Narnia set, the L,W,W, and Prince Caspian on Friday. Both have the rewards codes in them. We also ordered the special edition Mulan last month, it also had a code. Which reminds me I never entered my codes. Ooops :P Must go do that shortly

I just joined and calculated it to be approximately $9 per movie --This is if you get two of the 4 required upon signing up, using a CC and then get the last 2 required at the same time (to reduce shipping).
Less than $9 per movie is not possible any where around here---I just bought my kids a used Disney DVD at FYE for like $12--so this club worked out to be a good deal for me. I know I will be able to keep up with it and will cancel after I meet the requirements.

We're members and orginally got 7 movies for around $20 plus free shipping. Then I only had to buy 3 more movies to complete the requirement. Once you've done that, you've a VIP and get awesome savings like 60% off wyb one at regular price. I gave all my nieces and nephews movies for xmas last year. IMO, it's a great deal when you're going to buy lots of movies. Now that we've got almost all we want, I will probably cancel soon.
I have forgotten to decline once before (which I do online) and I just wrote return to sender on the pkg and they credited my card back.

I would so love to join, but everytime I try(5x's), the site says it has encountered and error. This is AFTER I have entered in all my choices, info, including credit card info. :mad20:
This stinks! LOL I even have a referal letter from a friend, and nothing, errors.
Has anyone else had problems with the site??

My last attempt was Saturday. Same thing, made my selections, filled out the info, got to the last page, ERROR. I don't get any confirmation from them either, so pretty sure it doesn't go thru. I have no idea why! I was trying to sign up under a friend, but looks like I am going to have to go the paper and stamp route. I have even tried from my libraries computer! Maybe they just don't want me to join? LOL

I have a membership and they are having intermittent issues with the website. It's working for some people but not all. I have been locked out of my account for 2 weeks and they keep telling me they are working on it :rolleyes24:. I'm not thrilled because I have to call in to cancel the upcoming selection instead of doing it on the website and then I don't have email confirmation it was cancelled.
I signed up a year ago and paid $1 for 4 movies plus free shipping. In the end it worked out pretty cheap when I divided it by how many movies I got and how many more I needed to buy. I think with shipping it made them $10 each. After I meet the commitment though I don't know how worth it will be. Their prices have gone up since last year and then you pay shipping. They do have a great selection though so I will see what the deals are after I buy 1 more. They are supposed to get better once you meet the commitment.

Old thread - but I'm reviving it because I'm considering this too. Any current thoughts?

Just made my decision to join after finding promo code 14689 to get 7 DVD's for $21.90!!!
Get 5 DVD's @ $0.20 ea
Buy 1 more for $8.95 (reduces committment to buy 4 more titles in 24 months down to 3 more titles)
Buy another 1 for $11.95
= $21.90 for 7 DVD's
I like the fact that I can decline the "Featured Title" via the web instead of mailing back a postcard or calling.

I joined for blu rays last month and love it. I joined with 7 movies for $21.90 shipped, with $11 cash back, and a $10 home depot giftcard for joining ebates and going through them to join the club. I have to buy 2 more movies at club price in the next 2 years. Club price is $29.95 and up. Most of them are combo packs. I already got one commitment so one more to buy in 2 years. Directors selection is easy to decline either online (which i did) or through the mail. Even if you decline online you still get it in the mail but you dont have to worry about it. So far so good, when i emailed them asking them if the one movie would be a commitment it took them less then 2 hours to get back to me, excellent customer service.

I am a member too. I have 2 movies left in my commitment. I have a hard time picking movies because I do think they're overpriced. So I'm waiting for a good featured title to fulfill my commitment. I decline the titles online which is super easy.
