A family member who's a manager at Giant Eagle just told me that they are going to be rolling out the Food Perks program in our area. They are offering it to employees shortly and then offering it to the public in about a month or so.

You earn a percentage off groceries for gas at GetGo. I believe it's 1% per 10 gallons of fuel. Not sure how long you can hold on to them before they expire. We currently have it at the Giant Eagle's in Central Ohio. I think it's been in effect for us for 6-8 weeks

I'm not 100% positive on this but this is what I heard. Every time you fill up at Get Go you get Food Perks. Like the previous poster mentioned you accumulate a percentage discount that you can then use on groceries. You are suppose to be able to get them even on the gas you buy using your fuel perks. You can only receive a maximum of 20% off your order.

When you check out the cashier is suppose to ask you if you want to use them for your order. I'll plan on saving mine and using them on a shopping trip when I stock up on meat and not on my frequent small orders.

I'm in Westmoreland County but I think they are doing it throughout Western PA.

My brother is a Getgo manager at one of the larger Getgo stores and here's what he told me about Foodperks.

Columbus-area is the first place to get this. He did not say when it is coming to Western PA but I'm sure it will once they test it.

For every 10 gallons of fuel you pump, you will be awarded a 1% discount on future purchases at Giant Eagle. The rewards expire in a similar manner as to Fuelperks....the last day of the month, three months after they are earned. (if you earn them in April 2009, they will expire on July 31, 2009). The max you will be allowed to use on one order is 20% rewards. The rewards must be used on an order under $300. The rewards you do not use, will carry over until next time.

You can read about it here: Giant Eagle Fooodperks (http://www.gianteagle.com/Article.aspx?cntid=196645)

Has anyone in Ohio noticed the price of gas going up after the program started?

I noticed the gas at our Get Go was $1.99 today and the other two gas stations a half mile away had it or $1.91 a gallon. They used to be very close in price. Might just be a fluke.

Thanks all for the explanation. I'll have to keep my eyes out for the program.

For the most part the GetGo I use in Columbus is within 5¢ of the other gas stations in that area even with the food perks program. Sometimes the GetGo is actually less than the other places.

It is probably just a fluke or the others will be going up shortly considering that the cost of a barrel of oil went up about $3 this past Thursday. Hopefully that will change soon!

Foodperks is live for employees currently company wide to my knowledge. They go live for everyone on the 16th of April.

I didn't know Columbus was the first place to get this program! I feel so honored (as a Columbus resident).

It's a nice program, but it really doesn't save that much money... I save it up for a month or two and then enjoy a $5 savings. Oh well, better than nothing! I save a lot more with Fuelperks than Foodperks.

Thanks, I asked the cashier the other night when some girl called over from one of the SCOs asking about what the foodperks meant (guess she had some, and didnt know what they were) and she had said 'next month'...maybe she thought it was still March LOL

You all are so lucky. When I was in PA I would have been all over this program because I always got my gas at Get-Go. I passed 3 on the way to work. Here in the southern Cleveland suburbs, however, it's a pain to get to Get-Go. There really aren't that many and the ones there are aren't on my usual path. I usually end up coasting up to the one at Pleasant Valley on E when I'm up to a free fill-up in perks, hoping that the line isn't too long because that's where everyone coasts to use up their perks and it's generally packed. I also have to hope I don't get wrecked into waiting in line on the road to get to a pump. It gets so stressful some times that I try even to give my card to hubby to get him to use the perks coz there's one by where he works, but he never wants to do it because my tank is 19 gallons and his is only 14 or something. For safety reasons we've drawn the line at getting the red tanks to fill up like a lot of folks do here as we don't have a lawnmower, but once I totally made someone's day by letting them fill up their tanks with what was left of my free gas after I filled up. The perks are nice in theory but until they get some more Get-Gos around here it's just stressful.

When I was shopping the other day at a self check-out, the cashier had to come over to put a coupon in for me and I saw on the screen the "food perks" option--I asked her about it and she actually said "I have NO idea!" She then said that someone came into the store, told them they were adding them to the registers and would explain at a later date and she said that hasn't happened yet. ??? How does that work with fuel perks though? I give my FIL my fuel perks because he's on a fixed income--and I added my Citizens card to it--so if he used my gas card to fill up, how does the food perks come through? He only used my card for gas, not for food, he uses his own card for food--I'm just wondering. I think it'd be great to get a % off whenever I needed meat!

I saw it on the screen at my GE's sco a couple month's ago. That is so sweet of you to do for your FIL.

I think you'll get the foodperks for his gas purchases.

If you go to visit www.foodperks.com (http://www.foodperks.com) and sign in using your Giant Eagle account information there is a video you can watch and earn 5% foodperks for watching. It says it's available for a limited time only.

They are already up and running in the GE here--yesterday, after watching the video posted above, I went to the store quickly to pick up my daughters's meds and some lunch snacks for the kids--and it asked me if I wanted to use my 5% already! I laughed--could have saved a whoppin' 35 cents. I'll save it for when my FIL fills up with my card! Thanks again, Vegasgal!
