Oh, there is trouble in River City!

+

I am at the checkout (actually a head cashier pulled me from a self scan to her register [near the self scans]) to ring me up.

Before deducting my $5.00 Catalina, my subtotal was only $4.71.

Yikes!

Q) What to do? What to buy?

You know the drill, you boogie to the checkout candy aisle for something on sale.

Well, it turned out that the York Peppermint Patties were on sale for … 92’ (save yourself 7’).

Hershey, the maker of Peppermint Patties said (promised) that that would be raising prices but ????

+

True confessions …

I am a letter writer … big time.

Time to fire up the word processor.

+

On top of that, the head cashier’s register (near the self scans) does not have a Catalina printer and neither does the Customer Service Desk!

I was purchasing a Gilette Fusion razor.

So, I ended up with a $5.00 Giant Eagle gift card instead of a sometimes troublesome Catalina.

LOL For some strange reason this is too funny! I can totally see you (or what I picture you to look like, Terry) dusting off an old electric word processor typewriter contraption to compose a letter to Hershey's.

99 cents for one Peppermint Patty? That is highway robbery - I thought they were like, a quarter at most!

That's why I have the kids, they pick cheap candy for me! My mom works at Marc's and is giving Giant Eagle the evil eye over this one. She's in Middleburg. My dad just gets his candy fix at Speedway because they have the king sized ones for 2 almost being the same price as 2 small one at the Eagle!

It's all hershey's and then to draw more attention to the horrible price there are huge TPR tags on them. Why would any one pay .99 for a 2 pack of reeses cups when the 8 packs are usually $10 for 10?

Customers just do not make the connection (or the math).

While waiting at the checkout line there is a metric ton of impulse items to purchase and those manufacturers pay dearly to stock their items there.

It is 'prime real estate.'

I once won a year's worth of Baby Ruth candy bars (365 full size bars instead of free item coupons).

To this day when I pass the candy display at the checkout, it is the Baby Ruth candy bar that I will most likely choose if purchasing one.

Does GE sell Airheads xtremes? There will be a .55 coupon in tomorrow's insert. Doubled it could be free if they sell them or next to nothing (i hope lol) . I never really look for them so never noticed. Thanks for any info.

I was wondering the same thing - why I don't know since my son doesn't eat candy LOL
