I saw a sign posted today at my Bloom that you won't be able to scan your own coupons at the self check out. You need a cashier to do it. I don't know if it's just this Bloom, or a company wide change.

which Bloom? I was at the Gaithersburg, MD store a few months ago --- and you had to hand your coupons to the cashier at the self-scanner. The Rockville MD and Frederick MD stores you scan coupons yourself.

This was the one near Lowe's Island, in Sterling.

I saw the same thing at my Bloom this week/weekend. The sign said if you have coupons either go to a regular checkout line or scan all items then have the helper for the self-checkouts scan the them for you.
That will suck for triples when I do multiple transactions at the self-checkouts or if I get a regular checkout cashier that does not want to triple ones that are DND.
This was a Bloom in Williamsburg VA.

It doesn't work if you try. It said I had to wait for assistance.

they are trying to stop people from breaking the rules. I think it is one 20 coupon transaction per day?
Lowes Foods does not accept coupons at self checkout any more either.
I heard that Bloom had a self checkout limit of 2 coupons, sorta of a way to force you to the other checkout lines.
I find their staff very coupon friendly, I have no problem avoiding the self scan.

Hey ladies,
Just wanted to let everyone why we no longer accept coupons at the self checkout. We have had a surge in certain customers abusing the machines especially during triple. These customers scan their cuopons but don't put them down the slot so they can reuse the same coupon over and over again. This is costing the stores more $$ than people realize and with the way times are right now it had to be stopped in order to avoid raising our prices. I hope this was helpful to everyone.

Just went this morning and my Bloom was doing the same thing. It was actually easier though, I thought. You just printed off your receipt and took it and your coupons to the cashier and she scanned everything. A whole lot easier then trying to find an employee at your register b/c you had more than 2 of one coupon.

So men like myself can still use the self scan? (joke - I am a male though).
Lowes Foods had to stop it too. People WERE dropping (coupons) but they were using plain pieces of paper so that they could basically use the 4 coupon limit by only having 1 coupon.
About Bloom, I wonder why your coupon box does not stop accepting coupons until the coupon is dropped. This is the case at Bi-Lo and was the case at Lowes. You were verbally prompted to drop the coupon by the machine and a green light blinks until it recognizes the dropped coupon. No coupon inserted, then the attendant is alerted by the machine and bingo you may have caught a coupon scammer.
I speak for the huge majority (99%) of couponers and tell you that WE do not mind going thru the regular clerk staffed checkout lines, as our coupons are not expired and legitimate and welcome their scrutiny.
Thank you for having triples once a month, and we sure would like for you to double up to 50 cents all the time. THIS could lessen the heavy traffic you have during the 3 day triples. As it stands now people are saving their coupons for triples but if the coupons and the ads don't match, then triples is no big thing. Alot of coupons intended for triples could already be used by triples week if you had doubles, and triple days would be less frantic for customers and staff.

I was at Bloom today and found the process really easy! Printed my receipt, took the coupons to the cashier and was out the door. Their staff is so friendly. This was my first time shopping at Bloom and my first time using triples of any kind. I just started on the coupon thing about 3 weeks ago and I love it! Their staff was so helpful, told me everything to do and I was greeted everywhere in the store. I might just go out of my way to go to their store now - it was a refreshing change. I plan to go back tomorrow and do the whole thing over again. I walked out the door today with about $110 worth of groceries for $24.78 - I felt pretty good :BigHand:

I went today and asked a question at the service desk and the manager happened to be there and we talked about several things, the reason they closed the self scans, the fact that they do not accept internet coupons BUT they have never had anyone present the entire sheet you printed online that proves you got it online, so someone can try that. Then they said they do give rainchecks but if it is an item that is out of stock the whole weekend of triples you are not given a triples raincheck, like some stores might do.
My manager and others are trying to get Bloom to stop tripling and just double every day up to .99. Bloom has it's own coupons some times and they and Harris Teeter have agreed to accept each others store coupons.
The customer in front of me had a Pillsbury coupon that would not scan. It took 3 employees to straighten it out. I got involved and asked about the code. It was a 9. I said 9's won't double and 5's will. They did not know about the 9, but the reason there was an issue was that it did not scan and it said do not double. So, the clerk thought that the fact that it did not scan was because it said do not double. I said, no, from what I know, do not double is put there for the benefit of the stores that do not double. In this particular case the reason the coupon will not scan is not because it says do not double, but because the code has a 9.
I'm ready for the Mecklenburg County stores to open so mine won't be out of so many items by the time I get there on Friday afternoon. Doubles and no triples would not affect us I do not think. Because we already get some triples at Lowes and Harris Teeter.

Was at Rockville, MD store this afternoon. Big sign on self-scanners saying to give your coupons to the cashier -- after you scan all your items.

Same here (just different store). Had a nice young man come & help both my grandmother's & my transaction. Register threw up an assistance request when my total came up...he told me it was b/c of all my coupons, lol! Had no trouble with any of my IP's either. Was my grandmother's first time in Bloom's & she loved it:biggrin:
