We're glad to welcome all the new members from Women's World who found us in this week's article.
Welcome to the community. We're not quite your typical coupon site where you'll get simple savings advice like "buy generics" or "buy an extra one" if they're on sale.
We're going to tell you to buy 20 of them if they're onsale, and that buying brands during the sales cycles is going to give you better deals than on anything generic.
And we're also going to be here to give you a hand up in learning how to coupon shop - with no subscription to pay for. Paid sites are pretty much worthless and you should never have to pay for good deal information when it's freely available to you here.
So, welcome to the site - we're happy you found us, and we're here to help!

Hello, I'm new as well. I have special needs kids, special meal planning I have to do as well, besides pinching pennies in this recession. I found your site in Woman's World as well. I've been curious about the different coupon places out here, but wasn't sure which were legit, and which weren't.
I appreciate any and all help.
I'm a mom of 4, though 3 still are at home ,my mother in law lives with us as well.
So I have to focus on fresh, frozen, no salt, no sugar items when shopping.
We have 2 diabetics, 1 high blood pressure, 1 high cholesterol, 1 milk sensitive, 1 on light or close to liquids for a week (had his tonsils and other things taken out and/or corrected so really careful to what he can eat so far). 2 picky children eating. And believe me, I am so getting tired of eating chicken or hamburgers, though that's basically what we can afford. So not only am I looking for coupons, but also recipes if I have to make those said main dishes. Thanks for all the help. Just trying like the rest of you to pinch pennies.

I have not read the article yet, but if it wasn't mentioned you may want to also check out www.organicgrocerydeals.com (http://www.organicgrocerydeals.com) This is the sister site of HCW and has information on more organic etc types of deals.
Welcome to the forums!

At the bottom of every page in the footer on the site is a link to all the helpful info you'll need to be a deal hunter. Use the "new to Hotcouponworld" page and check out all the resources there. And then the "abbreviations and acronyms" will help you through the lingo.
And then don't hesitate to ask questions - we really want to help you all understand how to do this. It makes a huge impact in your budget and your life to get a grasp on the shopping. It's one of the only financial variables you can control.

I read about you in ww!! I have never found a coupon site you didn't have to pay for or that wasn't completely ridiculous. I am so glad I read this article. I can't wait to get started!! THis is the first thing I have done.
SO, about me?
I am a mom of 4 boys, married to my husband for going on 15 years.
I am a stay at home mom, always looking for a way to cut expenses, and maybe save some money.
I also look forward to being part of a community and making some friends.

Welcome all new members!!! I'm excited the site is getting some great recognition!!
I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about internet safety. Don't post any information on the board you wouldn't be comfortable with a complete stranger knowing. If you are wanting to start trading coupons make sure you fully research the members you are thinking of trading with through their ifeedback, posts they've made, etc.
Most of all, have fun! Read read read and more read! It will help you out. And don't lose faith, this WILL take awhile to get the hang of. But you have a ton of other members who always seem to be willing to give others a hand with information, so you're not alone.

LOL - yes, the whole notion of paying for information makes me crazy. It's like when I start reading an article at the Wall Street Journal and half of it's there but to get the other half, I have to subscribe. GRRR!!!
What the article failed to mention is that we're not tech people, so the site might not be as sophisticated as other sites, it is what it is....but the information here is off the hook! And of course, free, which is my favorite price.

I am new to the coupon clipping scene. So I have a friend who is helping me clip coupons and telling me how to use them properly. But when I saw the article in Womans World I had to get it . Because every little bit of advice can help. We live in Florida where there was a housing boom and my husband drew houses for a living. Since the housing market has crashed here we make less than half of what we use too. So if anyone has suggestions on how I can save money any advice would be appriciated.

Greetings from Texas. I just read about Julie and Heidi and was very inspired. I'm widowed and am raising 3 daughters ages 15, 14 and 11. My youngest has special needs. I work full time, but don't seem to know how to make ends meet.
In addition to having 2 daughters with ADD, I was also dxd with addult ADD and also with a learning disability with math. As a result, my finances are a mess and I desperately want to get back on track.
I've never been good at using coupons, but as I said earlier, I have been inspired that I can do this.
Thanks.

Hello everyone, I read about this site in WW. I started out a couple of weeks ago at another coupon site but had to join and skip so many offers I got frustrated. This site looks very calming.
My husband and I live in Florida. I am a full time office worker, married for 26 years, we raised one child who is on her own now. It's back to just the two of us. We have, like everyone else, felt the effects of this poor economy, so in an effort to save money, I began looking for ways to get and use more coupons. I posted a couple of questions earlier today, but then found that you have this beginners section to help us newbies.
Thanks to everyone who makes this website possible.

Yep - there are a lot of sites out there that do that. We've purposely kept our page co-registration free because we're just as worried about the safety and integrity of your email address as you are. And while there are some good offers out there that can be had from those means, it's a pain in the butt when all you really want is the coupons and deals.
So, welcome to the community - glad you made it here safely :giggle2:

Hi Everyone.....I read your article last night in Womans World my favorite magazine. I never miss a weekly issue. I used to be very into couponing many years ago when my boys were little. Although I do still use coupons and save whenever possible, I'm not saving the way I know I can. I'm so excited to of found this site and am looking so forward to learning more about it. It's nice to see other people at there who have a need as such as I do to save money. Thank you again, Donna K. Whitestone, NY

I'm eagerly awaiting to be accepted into the trading section as I have inserts from the Sunday Papers that I'd like to trade. I'm also hoping to make an avitar after my first post. :)

HI! Also read the article, actually at my sister-in-laws house. I joke that my mother-in-law and I don't have to buy any magazines, because my sister-in-law has them. Anyway, I am a working mom of 3 boys! They eat constantly and I buy groceries every week, so I look for coupons wherever I can get them. Only get one big city newspaper in my town now because of the gas prices, so I lean towards getting coupons from online. Will be checking out the site more.

Yes I found you in Women's World. People who know me call me the "coupon queen" so this was right up my alley. After being a stay at home mom for 8 years I'm now substituting as a teacher and para in the school. I have 2 boys, ages 9 and 6 and a girl age 5.
We live in a small town that shares a newspaper with several other towns so the net is becoming a great way to access coupons and at this point every penny counts.

Hi Julie and Heidi , I am a newbie and I just finished reading your article about you in Women's World a few minutes ago and I could not get to my computer fast enough to log into your site. - lol
I am currently working from home part-time while I go back to school to get my accounting degree. My hubby works but it still does not seem like enough to cover the day to day expenses. I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone and start saving money. I have been using coupons for years but I do not save as much as I know I can with the right tools and knowledge!
So far from what I have seen of this site - it is great!!

Hi everybody:wavehi: WOW, I can't wait to use this site. I would have never known if it wasn't for that wonderful article in Woman's World. I can't wait to get the new issue every week, I always read it cover to cover. My only problem is that in the very, very small town I live in, in the Catskll Mountains, in NewYork State, I can't get it every week, you talk talk about withdrawal:hectic1:.
Any way, I am so happy to have found you guys, and that story in WW mag was so good, I could hardly wait to go online. Like I mentioned I live in upstate NY, I have been with my significate other for almost 23 years(as of May 17), and he is wonderful. He just had a triple bypass this past May and is doing great. It just goes to show you you can walk 8 miles a day(4 in the a.m and 4 in the p.m.), watch what you eat, most of the time:wink7:, but his downfall~~~smoking for over 50 years!!! He went "cold turkey" on March 18 and has not had one craving since!!!
Myself, well I am on SSD and have full body chronic pain(complex regional pain syndrom) from falling on the ice at work in December, 1993. And I just turned the BIG 60 on January 1st.:hb7:
So I am looking forward to finding all I can here, and hope to meet some great people.
Happy 2009 everyone

Hello there!
I was delighted to find out about this site in Woman's World magazine. I knew right away I wanted to join the site. Saving money is a necessity for me and I am hope I will be some day able to share some tips of my own.
I love to shop and I do have loyalty to certain stores such as Shaw's supermarket and Trader Joe's stores. I also like to learn how to save not only on my grocery bill but at department stores.
Looking forward to getting started.

Saw the Women's World Mag and the topic of Save $1000's with Coupons caught my eye! I really need to get back on the wagon and use my coupons! I use to do it religiously, but then I had 3 little babies back to back and didn't have time! Now they are older and eating me out of house and home, so I need to start saving! I think I will need help navigating around the website! Where do I go to print the coupons? I am retired military so I shop at the commissary and have to have the printed ones.
Thanks!

I would like to say hello to you all. I read about your site in Woman's World last night and was so anxious to come here today. I live in Indiana PA with my BF of 8 years and between he and I we have 5 kids (ages 16-22). My daughter is getting married next year, so I need to cut corners everywhere I can. Although I want to make this a life style as well. I am excited to join all of you and to admit it, a little nervous. I have always used coupons, but not much more than a few cents off here and there.
Thank you for creating such a wonderful place to help all of us. I will be reading tons and trying a few coupon idea out.

I am a mother of three wonderful children and I work as a cashier at a grocery store and see lots of good coupons come through. My husband and I are having a bit of a hard time like many others, we just need to learn this couponing thing so we can save more on groceries. I'd like to find a honest way to make extra money online or something.
Yes, I did find you in Women's World, I am new to couponing and it seems I don't really understand how to work it very well. It seems that all the sites I go to want you to join and then they send all sorts of email about joining other sites But they all have the same coupons. Where do I get different coupons??????

I am new at this coupon stuff but so far I am happy with what I have learned and saved.
I have 1 child in college and 1 that is a senior in high school. Next year I will have both of them in college. I am trying to save every bit that I can. I am now trying to talk to the one in college about coupons.
I went yestereday shopping and I tried to use a manufacture coupon with an in store coupon and they said that I couldn't do that. I read that I could so could you explain that more to me maybe.
Thanks

Howdy - Yep! I found this site in WW. Looks great - but lots of stuff in there. After I move into an apartment and can afford getting a new color cartridge for my printer, I'll be digging into all the goodies.
I'm a single mom with two teenage boys, almost 16 and almost 14! Been through bankruptcy and a house fire this past year in a traumatic way - but Upwards and Onwards we go! This is a new year and new good things are happening. Looking forward to participating and getting to meet new people. Oh, yea, we live in central New Hampshire.

Hi,
I also saw your article in Women's World. Was great and totally got my attention. I love to cook, but mostly I love to save money on items that I use to cook. It is a great site, but will take me a while to get through it. Thank you. It is wonderful.

Hey all! I was reading some magazines that my grandma saved for me, and I tripped across the WW article about this site! I am so excited, I have been using coupons and such for years, but am always looking for more ways to save! I have three kids, 1 girl and 2 boys. I have been married for 13 years. I work in a Special ed classroom at an elem. school. My husband is a police officer. WE love to camp and hang out in the mountains. I really enjoy working in my garden, my kids really like to eat anything we can grow. We live in a small town in Southwest CO. Our family is usually pretty busy.

Hi,
I saw the article in Womans World and decided to check it out.
We had a string of bad luck for the past 2 years, car wreck, brain injury, trees falling, car dying, tons of medical bills, and my only son and his wife had to move in with us.
So it's 4 adults with only 1 and 1/4 incomes. Just trying to get to the point where there is a little bit of paycheck left over after the end of the week.

:wavehi: Hello! I'm glad I read the article on WW!
I'm Wendy, a 39yr old married mom, of 4 very hungry boys, 14yrs, 6yrs,4yrs and 1yr. I also have 4 furry babies, my kitties, one with a HUGE appetite!
I'm a huge Biggest Loser fan and have a goal this year to get in shape and learn to cook healthier alternatives for my family. My doc says I should lose about 60lbs.
I ususally work nights and sleep days, but I have this week off so I plan to use my time wisely doing taxes and organizing my coupon binder!
I look forward to browsing around and contributing when I can.
The site looks GREAT!

I read the article and joined immediatly! What a great site, I am really enjoying it and saving already!
My husband and I want to go on an Alaskan cruise next year, but saving for it has always been a problem. Everytime we save enough to start planning, something comes up. So this time I am going to coupon my way to Alaska! A very ambitious thought, but I'll make it. The money I save from coupons and deals is going to go into an account for the vacation. My husband is going to put away $50 a week for it as well, but I have a strong feeling that my method is a lot more effective (and pretty fun, I love a great deal)!
If anyone has a great travel agent, I'll be looking for one soon I'm sure!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so excited to be a member!

Hi!
I saw you in Women's World! I'm a mom of 4 and I'm ashamed to say, that until recently, I only clip a few coupons, and use the ones in the store. It's because I would finally get organized enough to use the coupons, and then they wind up expiring...and then I would get frustrated.
Recently, I got sick and so now I'm on disability. I'm trying (rather unsuccessfully) to make ends meet. My oldest son is disabled (he's autistic and one of the GREATEST kids I know) and my two youngest (who are two of the world's best kids, too) still live at home.
I could really use some starter help. I read (and am reading) the hints for newbies. I will follow them to a "T." What I need help with is this....how do I stay organized with all these bits of paper? Does someone have a kind of filing system that works for them? With the expiration dates and different kinds of food? HELP!!
I prayed to God last night and thanked Him for showing me this website. My (favorite, skinny) sister gave me a Women's World subscription for a year...and I am so grateful!
Thanks for all the help to anyone who wants to help me out!

Every day above ground is a GOOD day!!
First let me say again a BIG hearty welcome to all of you that have found us in Women's World, we are just thrilled that you are here and hopefully as you begin reading you are starting to get the hang of things. If you need assistance or have questions please feel free to just ask away.
Yuppitsme, organizing your coupons is one of the keys to being sucessfull at couponing. However there is not one recomended method because everyone has their own system. And it may take a bit of trial and error for finding a system that works for you.
If you are just getting one newpapers worth of coupons a small accordian file coupon organizer will probably work for you. But if you are getting more than one set of coupon inserts each week (from friends, buying extra newspapers, asking for extras at gas stations, or even dumpster diving) then you will soon out grow that type of system.
Many members use the binder method (a zippered 3 ring binder with baseball card holder pages to hold the coupons), while others use boxes of various sorts (I use a toolbox myself). And for some people they file their inserts whole, uncut and only clip coupons as needed, using the Hotcouponworld coupon database as a reference of sorts to find the coupons they have.
Here are a few threads with some good information on coupon organization:
Organizing Your "Carry To Store" Coupons (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/getting-started-couponing-basics-newbie/79474-organizing-your-carry-store-coupons.html)
Organizing / Storing Your Uncut Inserts (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/getting-started-couponing-basics-newbie/98278-organizing-storing-your-uncut-inserts.html)
and then this one is pictures only of members organizing methods:
Show us your binders and boxes! (Pics only, please) (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/getting-started-couponing-basics-newbie/32005-show-us-your-binders-boxes-pics-only-please.html)
As far as expireds go you just have to set aside time each week or month to pull expireds from your system. I only pull expireds myself once a month, so when I am using coupons at the store I just do a quick once-over the coupons I am going to be using and double check to make sure none are expired.
Another tool we offer for members of our trading groups (Join the Coupon Trader Group (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/rules-guidelines-trading/20899-rules-forums-trading-share-wealth-must-read.html)) is the ability to create a "Keep List" using the Coupon Database (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/coupon.php)which can be used to keep track of all the coupons that you are going to keep for yourself (ie, not trade away). I use this feature to keep track of all the coupons in my coupon box. You can print this list out and take it with you to the store, or if you are tech geek like me you can put it on your cell phone or PDA (OK yeah I am a geek like that LOL)

Hi, I am brand new to the sight. I just read about it in Women's World. I am single and took in three teenagers years ago. They are now 20, 20, and 23. Even though they are "adults" they are in school so I am the only income for all of us. I am always looking for a way to save. I usually shop at an Aldi's so I am not very versed in coupons. I want to learn if they can save me money over a store like Aldi's.

Hello, everyone!!!!
I read about this site in WW also. I am a working wife and mother of 3. I work 10 hours a day four days a week. My husband works nights, so a lot of times I feel like a single mom. In this recession, I have noticed my bills climbing and my grocery budget declining rapidly...some weeks I only have $20-$30 to spend on food. To top it off, my husband is diabetic, we both have high blood pressure, and one of our children is extremely picky...I am looking for quick recipes, and they have to be salt and sugar free. I have never been a coupon clipper because I never knew where to get coupons. How long does it take to get established enough that you can have enough coupons that you can go to the grocery store and get $200.00 worth of groceries and only spend a fraction of that? In the weekly paper, I get restaurant coupons and usually toothpaste and soap coupons but that's it and most times its brands we don't use. My husband is allergic to most laundry soap, body soap, and fabric softener. We use Cheer and Downey...anyway, any help or advice is greatly appreciated and much welcomed!

First of all, welcome!
It will take you 4-6 months of collecting coupons and stockpiling deals that you can get with the coupons that you have. Of course the more effort you put into it, the more faster you will start to see the savings. BUT you need to remember the keys to this is buying multiple items when they are on sale so that you do not have to pay full price till the next sale. It is a process, not something that happens over night.
Recipes...make sure you check out the recipes forum here at HCW. A lot of the recipes are for meals that use things that couponers stockpile.
We do recommend not being brand loyal, so unless you cannot eat something or use a product because of health reasons you might need to open your mind to other brands.
However if you are brand loyal then you need to really stockpile when you can on those brands. Luckily Cheer and Downy usually have some sort of coupon in the P&G insert (which comes out once a month, usually at the beginning of the month). The coupons sometimes are not that great value wise but if you are brand loyal to these two brands then any savings is better than none. Also, when the P&G insert comes out, usually that week there will be some sort of sale on P&G items at Walgreens, Kmart, or other stores. It might take some time to find a good sale for those brands but keep your eyes peeled for a sale that you can combine with your coupons. And if you can get a decent price, stockpile it so that you have enough on hand to last you till the next time it goes on sale.
(P&G = Proctor & Gamble)
As far as where to get the coupons, well there is your inserts in the Sunday paper, keep getting those week after week, get more than one newspapers worth if you can. If you live in a small town, see if you can get the "big city" paper which usually has better coupons. Then be on the look out for coupons in your stores, tearpads, peelies, hangtags, winetags, booklets, etc. Take a few when you find them and file them away. Build up your coupon aresenal. And don't give up!

I read the article in Woman's World and this sounds like an awesome group of people who are trying to save money. About 25 years ago, I used coupons all of the time, when my 3 daughters were young and I was working parttime. Now that the economy is as it is, I feel the need to get back into saving as much money as possible so as to be able to retire some day.

Hey there! I read the article and liked the idea that this is a free website where I don't have to pay money to get information. I love using coupons, and wanted a place where I can do some coupon trading, find out great deals, and so forth. I am married with a baby, and my mother-in-law lives with us. She is diabetic, and we all could lose some weight (okay, maybe a lot), so I could use some help on finding cheap healthy foods in the grocery store. :thanks7:

I read the article in W.W. and decided to join HCW & since then couponing has become a new passion of mine. Sunday is a big day for me and I get excited about the new coupons that are coming out LOL.....am I wierd??? I really like how ppl pull together here to help each other out, I think that's wonderful. During these tough economic times its good to appreciate what you have and learn to make the most of it. When my husband saw how much I saved and how many groceries we got he said " We've been getting robbed all this time haven't we, by not comparison shopping or using coupons". I just looked at him and said "Yep". My last grocery trip between the deals and coupons I saved 56%, only spent $20.47 and had 7 bags of groceries!!!! Thank you guys for pioneering such a great site to help ppl!!!! :BigHand:

:BigHand: I am new here. I just wanted to introduce myself and say Hi! I love to coupon shop and since I am in college and my husband got laid off :( things have been really tight but because of coupons we probably do and eat better because of them. I just wanted to say hi and if you have any pointers or even great coupons please let me know.
Thanks All!!

Hello. I am new to using coupons and am excited to save some $$. So far, I have found lots to read but, no usable coupons. I have submitted my request to join the coupon trading group. Are there any coupons to print out from this site?:shrug7:

I did see the site in Womens World. I am a 36 yr old female, employed part-time in retail (looking for full time still). My husband is 45 and has applied for Social Security Disability (denied twice, waiting for a hearing). He has some severe, life threatening health issues that we are handling to the best of our abilities. I like to do crafts and read romance and crime novels. We have no children together but he has two from a previous marriage (both in their twenties). I am already a grandmother of a handsome 7 (almost 8) year old and in January we got a granddaughter. I love to shop for deals and pride myself on getting the lowest prices. Thats it for now...hello to all!

New to your site, was looking for someway to save money and read the article in WW. Thought it sounded great since the service is free. Need to save any where I can.
I am newly divoced with my mother (90 years old) living with me. Trying to save anywhere I can. As I am now the breadwinner of the family. Will be learning all the abbreviations etc and always working to save wherever I can. Thank you for your site.

Found you in WW in a doctor's office. Tore the page around let it kick around for a bit. Finally decided to look and wow am I happy That tiny piece of paper didn't get lost. :) I know there were 2 sites on the page I came to this one and never even bothered with the other. I lurked for 2 weeks and well here I am.
I have a 2 yr old daughter and a wonderful husband. My fathers health has recently taken a turn for the worst so I am looking to coupon for my family in turn to hopefully save and help my parents get by this tough time. Thanks all.
