So, our maintenance tonight was that we put up a sparkling new homepage!
When you type in www.hotcouponworld.com you'll now start on the homepage. To get to the forums, you'll need to click the "forums" tab on the menu bar (or just bookmark it!).
But, the new homepage has articles by mods and admins (and members if you feel so inclined to write and submit them ***HINT***) as well as articles from the industry of grocery coupons that might have an impact on us as shoppers.
You'll also get coupon codes, a daily deal, our HCW videos and quick links to some of our best user tools.
You can also follow our HCWHotFlash newsletter at Twitter for urgent and hot deals.
So, check it out - tell us what you think! We hope you'll find it useful, helpful, and full of good information!

We told you we would be back. And we weren't even down that long.
Poke around on the homepage you can comment on the articles and stuff. And then we have new tabs here in the forums too to help you get where you need to be going a little bit faster.
Have had a lot of fun putting it all together but man are we pooped. LOL

Thank you for always adding new and exciting features to hcw. It's so exciting to log on and wha-la, something new.
I hope to never take for granted that a whole lot of work goes into each and every new feature (and maintaining the site) so I just wanted to say.....
THANK YOU BOTH for all you do behind the scenes to make this such a great place. You're always striving for excellence and it shows.

As far as the "no ads" subscription, we're not sure it can carry over to the homepage yet - it's something we're working on. It's a separate software than this one, and we're not sure how or if your userID and settings will be integratable in the new software. It's something we'll have to look into more although when we looked initially, there wasn't a clear way we saw to disable the ad boxes on those new pages, so for now, we're stuck with it, and if we can't find a way to do it, then we'll have to amend what the no-ad subscription covers, which would only be the forums part, which of course is where we all live anyway.

sati and other no-ad subscribers. Unfortunatly the no ad subscription only works in the forums. We have not found a way to make it work on the homepage. But we are still looking into it so please just have patience.
I am glad that so far the resonse has been nice. Glad you like it.

It's all jumbled for me. Down the side where it says something like 'Welcome to Hotcouponworld by admin' I have one word on each line and the 'buttons' that link to the forums, etc. are randomly placed in the right corner. I use IE and I can't upgrade to a new one.
That said, I'm sure it looks great LOL
I was also wondering where the 'forums' tab went when you're on the 'regular' page. When I'm in my PMs or the database I used to just hit forums to take me back. Now I have to go to the homepage and then back to the forums.

Hit the HCW logo and globe - it will take you back to the forums when you're in the forums, and keep you on the homepage when you're in the that part of the board.

You gals are always on the cutting edge of whats going to make this site the best for so many people. I think the new home page is another example of that.
I always say it, but it bears repeating. This site changes lives!
By updating and always striving for the next great thing, more and more people are drawn to this site.
Thanks for making it possible for all of us to do what we do for our families.

I hope I don't get flamed for this but I am not really thrilled about the new homepage. It looks cluttered (and confusing) and all I want to do is get to the forums, which is not to say that I don't appreciate all the hard work that the site owners put in to make this the best place to come for deals.
I usually login from work and I just want to get there in the fewest steps possible. Would you I be able to set the forums to be my "homepage" if I bought a paid subscription?

Looks great to me, I use IE, no idea which version.
just wanted to offer a little editing advice on a couple things I noticed. nothing major.
-----------------------------------------------
We do this by matching (posting?) grocery store ads from around the country and match(ing?) them with manufacturer’s coupons to give you the best final price at the store.
http://www.hotcouponworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/orange-arrow.gif Coupon Database: (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/coupon.php) Manage your personal inventory of coupons, and then connect with others through our coupon database to initiate trades. With over 60,000 coupons listed in the coupon database, you’re sure to find someone who has the coupons you’re looking for! (with over xxxxxx members to trade with on HCW, you're sure to find someone......??)

I think, as the last MAJOR change, it will be something that some of us have to get used to...
I'm not very good with dealing with change, so it's a difficult thing to adjust to, but one that must be done.
I did get used to having the boxes on the right side of the screen in the forums, giving me access to my usercp, birthday information, and other things. Now I'm not quite sure where to find them just yet...
That said, I do like the homepage itself, it gives lots of information that I'd like, and access to things I don't normally find, so it's great for me.

With regards to the coupon database editing, I'm not sure that your suggestion would be as accurate. Yes, there are tons of members, but it's the coupons that are actually matched up, not the traders.. The editing that you've mentioned would work great for the forums, where you can search thru someone's lists, but the database only matches up traders based on the identical coupon listed in their lists, so the wording makes more sense that way, for the database.
Just my thoughts!

Not sure if it helps your programmers or not, but now that you put the redirect (with the home page visible under the redirect notice) to the forum page for IE6 and older browsers, before the page changes the home page is formatted fine. It displays the same as my Firefox browser.

Two Word docs attached. One is a print screen with the redirect message and the home page being displayed almost correctly (tabs are in two rows). The other was a page save that displayed very similar to what we were seeing prior to the redirect.

And this is what it looks like now. Redirect message to forums, but switches to a good home page, but the redirect message is still visible at the top behind the tabs. Image and tab positions seem to have been resolved.

I like the homepage. Looks good. The only issue I have is with the tabs at the top of the page. If you are on the home page the home tab is gone...I understand that as that is where you are at the time and that tab is not needed.
But when you are on any of the forum pages the forum tab is gone. So it's not always easy to return to the forum pages. In other words when you go to your pm pages, etc...it still considers that part of the forums and so you can't hit the forums tab to return to the menu...You can in this instance find the address info at the top of the page showing where you are (Forum Navigation Box) and click on Hot Coupon World and be return to the forum menu.
But when you go into the coupon database there is no Forum Navigation Box and no Forums tab at the top of the page, as it is addressed as part of the forums. So the only way to get out of the database and back to the forums is the link at the bottom of the page, which I am not use to using so that will take some getting used to. Or you have to go to one of the other tabs so that the forum tab will reappear and then click on it, which is annoying having to go to a page that you don't want to go to.
So, would it be possible to put the tabs back where they don't disappear when you are within that tab's field or is it something I'm just gonna have to get used to? I can do that, I will just have to reprogram my mind to use the links at the bottom of the page instead of the tabs at the top. LOL
Thanks for all ya'll do for us on HCW. And thanks to your dhs and all their hardwork too.

One more thing. I was seeing the homepage with the redirect wording thinking that I had been redirected, but it remained on the home page and until I scrolled down (without clicking anything) I was bounced to the forums page. I tried it a few times and it seems like a longer then probably intended delay before the redirect.

The new homepage looks good! Right now, I am seeing it via IE6 on a laptop computer with either a 14 or 15" screen in 1024x768 resolution. But there are a couple other pages that are looking funky for me.
On the abbreviations page Hot Coupon World » Abbreviations, Acronyms, & Coupon Terms (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/abbreviations-acronym-coupon-terms/), the horizontal orange bar at the bottom that contains links to Home, Contact Us, Advertise, etc. is instead vertical and pushed all the way over on the left side of the page, while the horizontal grey tabs from the top of the page are also vertical and floating all the way over on the upper right side. (Btw, is there a technical name for that horizontal orange bar?)
This same issue occurs on the newsletter signup page, Hot Coupon World » Newsletter Sign Up (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/newsletter-sign-up) , the resources page Hot Coupon World » Resources (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/resources), and articles page Hot Coupon World » Articles (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/articles) . There is also some other text on those pages showing up in thin columns, and the problem is creating a lot of empty grey space on the right side and empty white space in the lower middle. If you need screencaps, I can give them to you in a Word doc, but you'd have to tell me how to attach a Word doc to this post. (Actually, even if you don't want the Word doc, would you please tell me how one would attach it to a post, just for future reference. I noticed a PP did that, but I can't figure out where the button for that is.)
I'm curious, what sort of tech issue is creating the above appearance problems? Is it related to CSS (referred to upthread by a PP) or something else?
Also, not tech issues but typos. In that little white strip up at the top of the abbreviations, articles, and resources pages, "JC Penney" is mispelled as "JC Penny." (Another tech-curious question, what is that little white strip called, and what's it there for? Initially I thought it was clickable, but apparently not.) And below that, on the newsletter signup page, in the middle white box, it says "Save lot's of money!"; "lot's" should be "lots". Same "lot's" typo on homepage, where white box is on upper right side.
HTH.
Edited to add: I forgot to say, the Forums page and the New Posts page don't fit squarely in my fully open browser window. They both require scrolling over to the right to see the User CP and all that other stuff (for lack of a better term). Was all that stuff always there? Did I just never notice that side of the page before, tucked underneath the vertical scroll bar?
The other pages I mentioned and linked to above also don't fit in my browser window and require extra scrolling.
Anyway, again, HTH. :-)
