I just bought a bunch of canned soup from Giant Eagle but now I see it on sale at a different store. Can I return the soup and get my money back?
Thanks, I have been a lurker for a looooong time!

As long as you have your receipt, I'm sure you can get the price you paid back. My GE is very nice about returns and bringing coupons back with my receipt when I forget to use them.

If there is a short amount of time between dates, you may be able to suggest to the Customer Service person to do an adjustment, giving you back the difference.

Things that I have found that increase the chances of a successful return ...
+
You possess and present the receipt.
You have your Giant Eagle Advantage card, it the original purchase used it.
You bring the items in a Giant Eagle grocery bag.
You bring the items back in resalable condition (I never open or use an item unless that I am darn sure that I am going to use it ... it make the process of returning an item a whole lot easier).
You show up when the Customer Service Desk is not busy or not hassled.
You approach the Customer Service Desk with your Giant Eagle receipt in your hand and say, Here is my Giant Eagle receipt, I have a return.
+
Now, some of these might seem small, but when all things are added up, each and every step seems to help increase the chance at a successful return.

The Giant Eagle Brook Park, OH has a policy of throwing away almost everything that is returned.
I have asked them about their policy.
I am told, It is safer and cheaper to throw something away than it is to risk an item being tampered with and have to deal with a lawsuit.
If you leave the store with your purchased item, they have to throw it away if it is returned.
If you do not leave the store, they will not throw it away.
Even canned dog food is thrown away.
I feel bad and what I will do it purposely go to another Giant Eagle with my returns.
Like when I chose the wrong flavor of potato chips.
All I wanted to do is an exchange.
+
Each and every time one deals with Customer Service, they should be 'retaining' something from the experience so that in the future, each visit is much easier.
"We won't get fooled again!"

my sis in law works at a GE in NE ohio and they have a little thing going that if you tell a manager that some employee in the store was helpful, nice, went above and beyond, they get a certificate for a free lunch. remember, everyone knows when service is bad at a store, but it is so nice to let management know when someone is doing a good job. my Ge is parmatown oh and they have an OUTSTANDING cs dept. (not my sis in law store!) I have never gotten a hassle on a return or mistake via catalina, the ladies there are always nice and after i explain what i want, i get it!

Don't you feel it is wrong to simply throw away food in efforts to get a better deal or pick a different flavor? If you were better prepared for shopping and carefully chose your items, there shouldn't be a need to return an item. And knowing it is going into the garbage when you could donate it to a shelter or food bank is sad.
My Giant Eagle, as well as most grocery stores, has the same policy therefore I am more careful in my selection. If I make a mistake on price I suck it up as a learning experience or if I make a mistake on flavor it goes to charity.
