FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: What is a winetag?
A: Winetags refer to the coupons found hanging on the neck of wine bottles. The term "wine tag" also refers to any coupon or offer provided by the manufacturer of an alcoholic beverage, even if they are found as tear pads or other displays.
Wine tags may require the purchase of alcohol (WPN), or do not require the purchase of alcohol (NWPN). Availability and redemption terms frequently vary by state, as do the laws for alcohol sale and distribution.
Wine tags may provide excellent savings on a variety of non-alcoholic items, such as meat, flowers, candy, paper products...almost anything!
Q: Do you have to buy the wine in order to get the winetag?
A: Winetags are either referred to as NWPN, which means no wine purchase required or WPN, which means wine purchase required. It is up to the individual couponer whether they are comfortable removing them or not, some stores may not permit it.
Q: Are winetags found only in certain states?
A: Unfortunately they are not found everywhere. Please refer to this thread (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/winetags/62-states-have-winetags.html) for a breakdown of where one might find winetags.
Q: Where are winetags found?
A: They are generally in the wine section of grocery stores or liquor stores. They hang off the bottles - or in a pad next to the wine. You can also find them on wine displays that are NOT in the wine department. As you go through the store, keep an eye out for any wine bottles with something hanging around the neck, and check it out.
Q: Can I use winetags at a store that doesn't sell wine?
A: Yes you can as long as they are NWPN. These are manufacturer coupons put out by the makers of the wine. The store will still be reimbursed for the coupon.
Q: What is the whole thing about the bar code starting with 992? People seem to like that but I am not sure what is the advantage?
A: Without getting too much into the decoding area Ill try to explain.
992 is a generic type code that does not require the register to check for the item purchased.
So in the case of winetags... because there is no code for things like beef, chicken, pasta, and other things that generic type winetags are good for because you can buy so many brands or store items from the butcher, bakery, produce, etc. Winetag manf. will either code those type of winetags for either the wine even if you are not required to purchase he wine to use the coupon (which means it will beep) or they will use the generic code of 992 which usually will scan. Now mind you this is all YMMV because some stores have set up thier registers to beep at 992's regardless. But some folks, myself included like the 992 winetags because they don't beep at the store I tend to use them at. In the end it doesnt really matter if you are using the coupons legitimately but for me its just less hassles at the register. (Answer thanks to queenofthehivemomof5)
