Anyone find any good deals yet this week at Giant Eagle?
Blistex is on sale for $1 each, with the coupon for $1/2 that makes them 50 cents
Advil is B1G1, but I don't have any Qs :(
And of course the 50 Bonus Box Tops deal starts.

There are $1/1 printable Advil qs in the database, so, you can combine those with the BOGO for a decent deal.

If you still have any Lifesaver coupons, the 1$ off any that expire 12/31, the peg bags of gummys and regular are 1$ - so FREE. They will beep on anything other than the orange mint hard ones, because of the way the coupon is coded, but they were easily pushed through for me tonight. I just explained to my cashier about the coding.
My favorite cashier was working tonight! I was super excited, because I wanted to do a bunch of the dog treat deals. I did 12 transactions LOL The first 9 were of dog snacks, and then the last 3 were my actual groceries :-) He was happy to see me, which is so cool to finally have a cashier who enjoys seeing how much I save!
I wanted to use up any coupons that expired this month of stuff we actually use. Here's some of my finds:
Spaghettios w/ meat still on sale 3/4$ - 40c/2 mq = 2/1.87
Tyson Anytizers on sale 3$ - 75c mq = 1.50
Mrs T's QuickOnes periogies on sale 2.25 - 1$ mq = 1.25
Tic Tac Chill on sale 1.50 - 1$ mq = 50c
Max Factor Makeup Remover on sale 2.49 - 2$ mq = 49c
Max Factor Makeup Brush on sale 1.99 - 2$ mq = FREE
Kraft American Cheese Singles on sale 3$ and Ritz Crackers on sale 2.50 - 1$ mq (off Ritz wyb any Kraft Cheese) = 4.50 for both
Blistex 1$ - 1$/2 mq = 50c each
Lifesavers gummys on sale 1$ - 1$ mq = FREE
Nestle Quik mix on sale 3.99 - 1$/2 mq = 3.49 each
Arm & Hammer Scrub Free cleaner w/ oxy (no sale) 2.29 - 75c ip = 79c
Arm & Hammer Shower Cleaner (no sale) 2.99 - 75c ip = 1.49
Valley Fresh Canned Dark/White Chicken on sale 1.99 - 40c mq = 1.19
Valley Fresh Canned White Chicken on sale 2.99 - 40c mq = 2.19
Nivea for Men Body Wash on sale 3.49 - 2$ ip = 1.49
Hershy Baking Chips on sale 2$ - 1$/3 = 3/5$
Holiday Bags on clearance 75c
Holiday Wrap (40sq ft) 50c
Cheweez are still on sale 99c
Busy Bones are on sale 2.99
TBonz are still on sale 2.50
Grand total for my run tonite was 94.22 OOP, saved 169.32 with sale and coupons LOL

Glad to see someone else doing so many transactions with the chew-eez dog treats!
I have been doing 13 at a time, and so far the cashier's are friendly, but not "happy to see me" :)
Problem is the manager has to come over and use her key...last time they put the sign at the end of the lane so no one would be waiting for me. I have so many more of these q's to use, I don't know if I have the guts to do it though!

I went to my Giant Eagle yesterday, hoping to pick up some holiday clearance - NOTHING was marked down. I have coupons for ziplock bags and containers, toilet paper, candy, kleenex - hoping to get some deals. I asked if anyone knew when things would be marked down, but no one had any idea.
I did pick up some Super Pretzelfills for $.50 after doubled coupon. I'd never buy them otherwise and not sure if they get any lower, but the kids were thrilled. I can't recall if they were on sale this week or if they were a hold over.

Oh yeah, the key. I've noticed that in the evening when they're not so busy, that my store is more lenient with the key. They'll just throw it over to the cashier and let them do it themselves instead of having a manager stand there punching a code after each one. So I just tell them right away that they'll need the key for my coupons lol
I've noticed that any coupons with the 992 in the barcode (signaling cashier intervention needed) needs a key at GE. It seems like explaining that helps build trust with the cashier too - instead of thinking you're trying to pull a fast one (coz beeps usually mean something's wrong) they understand why those coupons are requiring a key. The pounce cat treat ones are a 992 and beep also, because it's off 'any' of the whole product line too.
As far as needing 'guts' to use them - just try to use them when the store isn't buy and go for it! They're perfectly legit, no funny business, so I wouldn't worry. They should be happy you're using them, think of how much they're getting reimbursed by Purina for all the dog treats we're buying! GE isn't even paying anything out of their pocket because they're too high a value to be doubled!

I went to my GE tonight and found bags of Hershey Kisses (Christmas colors) on sale for $1 ! There were tons of them. I dug out my coupons - saved $1.50 / 3. So I paid 50 cents a bag. Yum. I bought too many! lol But i will put them in the freezer. We could pick out the red wrapped ones for Valentines Day.
I also bought some Chex Mix. On Sale $2 each. Had coupons $1/1 and some of the bags had 0.50 peelies on them.
The only other thing I bought was more BC pouch potatoes. Bought 7 bags :) And then 30 Bonus box tops printed out at the register. yay

So is your Giant Eagle allowing you to do multiple orders? Mine WAS, until yesterday I got a cashier that said no right off the bat, then a manager said yes. But then when it beeped a different manager came over with her key and wasn't happy about it. (She never is when I'm there even though all the other managers let me do it.) It was very frustrating, and if I had been on here yesterday I would be venting, but I've slept it off and now just want to know is there any sort of coupon policy I should be aware of?
And now that everyone in that store knows me as "that coupon lady" is that a bad thing? I don't think I'm doing anything wrong--but those two ladies yesterday really made me wonder......:shrug7:
BTW: I had 13 separate chew-eez orders--as I always do, and then wanted to pay for my groceries with the cat q's at the end. They didn't like all the orders, AND they didn't want me to use all my q's on the groceries and get free groceries. They said I was only allowed one cat q per order--kind of--the manager just said she usually doesn't allow so many oyno q's for such a small order.
AND they were marking on the coupons --scribbling out the $3 and writing in $2.97--I don't mind not getting that 3 cents, but isn't it wrong for them to write on the coupon? (again, this is the only manager that marks on the coupons)
Ok, so I vented, but only a little.:wink7:

My store never has a problem with separate transactions. Though if i was going to use coupons over the price (like the 3$/3 on 3 cheweez ones) I would hide them in a larger order LOL Or use 2 of the 1.50/2 ones, so there's no overage issues.
My understanding is that you can only use one like cat on one order. So the other night I broke my groceries into 3 transactions so I could use 1 3$ oyno cat on each. But I guess some stores don't mind you stacking them, they just need to override them.
I think it just depends on the cashier/manager at your store though. If they understand they're getting reimbursed for the coupons and looks at them like a form of payment, then they usually don't have an issue. If they think they're giving things away for 'free' because they don't understand how coupons work...well then, you'll probably have problems!

So have you ever asked for your stores coupon policy?
I was about to today, just so I can plan my trips accordingly...but it was recommended to me that I ask on here, or look on their website first--just so I have the correct information up front.
Today I had a new experience, but they were busy, so I didn't push it. It's funny because I never used coupons before, and now bam, I find a good deal and can't even use my coupons! LOL

I did email GE's customer service asking about their coupon policy, but never got an answer... The only thing I've asked at my store is if I could use IPs. Other than that, I usually try to find a cool cashier (like my favorite one, young guy - chatty - and LOVES to see me save $ lol), and hope for the best. I watch other coupon users too. Like when I wasnt sure if there was a limit on the number of same coupons you could use...I saw a lady in front of me use about 20 of the free cat treat coupons (this was a while ago), and no one batted an eye. So I felt ok about using 20 Lindt bar coupons the other week :-)
Sometimes it is easier to just try it out than it is to ask permission. I'm sure if I would call and ask how many coupons I could use at one time, they might lowball a number. Or if I ask if I can get overage on a coupon, I'm sure they'd say no we won't take it at all, or we have to adjust it down. So I just go for it. If anything's said - apologize and move on, or apologize and ask for them to take the item off my bill.
When starting out couponing, the best thing is to start slow. Don't try to grab everything you can at once. Try out different stores to see who is more friendly towards couponers. Keep all coupon use legit (no funny business) and you won't have anything to worry about.
If you're doing the dog treat deal - try using the 1.50/2 on the cheweez, or if you only have the 3$/3, do 2 cheweez and 1 of something a little over 1$ so it's less obvious. Throw in a few other items you have coupons for, and some milk or bread...So you're not walking out with 0 totals. That can wait until they have trust in you that you're not a scammer or smash'n'grabber

I'm annoyed. Went to my GE last night (Bethel) and they had changed the sale on oranges from Sunday. They WERE 20/$2 now, they are 5/$2. It was an unadvertised sale and I've been buying them 2 times a week at least for an elderly couple I shop for.
Then, I went to use the last of my domino q's for the brown sugar on confectioner's sugar. They were tagged at 2/$3 last week and for week's prior and I am 100% positive the sign had said thru 12/31. I took 1 of each to the register on the off chance that they would still scan at $1.50 ea and they didn't. Arrrggggghhhhh - I hate when they do this.

I've noticed that my GE doesn't even have their sales up until days after they should. I had to ask 3 times for the batteries a couple week's ago, then they brought them out. But that was on Saturday.
I do love Giant Eagle, but I loved it more before I started trying to save money :)
Neekyme: Thanks for chatting about this with me! I am new to this and I didn't start slow at all! I found that purina cat deal and went after it full throttle!
I'm not getting overage on it anyway--I have to pay the tax of .18 and they only give me $2.97 credit for the coupon....I just wish they would all understand, like you said, that they are getting credit for these coupons, just like cash.
I've emailed customer service asking for their coupon policy.I'll post it if I get one.
I feel like I just want to get it settled once and for all what their policy is. But you have a good point--if you ask, they may just come up with an answer :)
Thanks!
Happy Shopping!

SuperPretzels ...
I can remember the good old days when Giant Eagle had them on sale for 3 / $4.98 or $1.66 a box.
Redeem one of their 75˘ off coupons, doubled made your out-of-pocket a whopping 16˘ a box or 2.7˘ a pretzel.

I love that warning on the bag of salt:
"NOTE: Do not use entire salt pack if not heating entire box of pretzels."
Yikes!
I put about ten grains of salt on my dish and proceed to use one grain of salt per piece of a pretzel.

Register at SuperPretzels' website for some decent coupons sent via email.

For what it's worth, I think the EPR on the Domino sugar only ran until 12-24-08. I bought several of these and if memory serves, that was the date on the EPR tag. Really sorry to hear about those oranges. It really stinks when they run the "unadvertised" deals and you don't know when they will end.

Ok - that would make sense. I think I was so annoyed that they changed the price of the oranges that the sugar was the last straw LOL. I buy groceries for an elderly couple and they love their fruit. I must have bought them 6 deals of oranges in those couple weeks that they were on sale. I refuse to buy them .79 ea oranges (even though they are paying) LOL.
I'm going to head over to Shop N Save today to get them a crate of clementines - they are on sale there for $3.99 starting today.

I didn't know if I should start a new thread for this, but since I was talking about this so much in this thread I thought this might be the right place for it.
I emailed Giant Eagle through their website to ask for their coupon policy.
Today, the manager from my store called to answer my questions about coupons!
So I think the form goes to the manager of the store in your area.
Anyway, she was soooo nice and down to earth. Basically, she laid it out this way:
1. No more than 5 like coupons in a transaction (even if they aren't doubling). This is so we don't wipe the shelves. It allows all customers to have a chance at getting a good deal too. But we can come back every day, that gives them time to restock.
(she also said there's nothing to prevent you from going in several times a day, but I think since they want equal opportunity for all customers they would probably frown on this :)
2. You can't do seperate transactions just so you can get around the no more than 5 coupon rule. BUT she said it was fine for me to do 5 transactions a day for the purina cat deal.
3. The $ oyno coupons--they are to be used only one per item. So it sounded like if I bought one expensive item, I couldn't use 5 of those oyno's to pay for it. I would only be allowed to use one. But she also said you can use 2 in one transaction without a manager having to come over and override it.
She was great, she even said that if a cashier was upset about what I was doing I could ask for her and that it didn't really matter if they knew why I wanted to seperate my transactions as long as I was only using 5 like coupons during my trip.
I don't know if this goes for all stores, but it really helps me to know I have a nice store manager :) Woo-Hoo!
I will say that I was buying 13 of those purina chew-eez at a time the first 2 or three times I went in, and they let me...so maybe at night they don't care?

The sign says no more than 5 like coupons will double. The sign says nothing of not taking more than 5 like coupons. But, I'm happy to know what to expect. I don't think it will prevent me from asking sometime if I can use more, especially if a good deal comes along again.
I forgot to add that I can't stack the oyno q's with other q's for the same product, but I doubt that's programmed into the register.

I might have done better if I didn't know the policy and kept trying to use lots at a time. It seems that a manager can override whatever they want to....so hopefully I'll have the guts to ask for them to let me use more.....it's not like its any big deal to let me use a few more coupons.
