At the top of my ad it mentions double fuel rewards for the holiday. It only mentions 3 stores in my area (Chicago): Cicero, Alsip and Bolingbrook. There is 3 levels: $.10 - $25 - $49.99, $20 - $50 - $99.99 and $.30 - $100 or more. I think those dollar amounts are correct - it is hard to read.
Some of the specials this week are:
Kroger milk - gallon whole, 2%, 1% and skim - excludes chocolate $2.28
Scott Petersen corned beef or roast beef $3.98 lb
Boneless pork loin roast (family pack) $1.98 lb
Boneless new york strip steaks (family packs) $4.98 lb
Barilla pasta sauce or pasta $1 limit 10
Pork shoulder butt roast (family pack) $.98 lb
Honey Bunches of Oats 14.5 oz, Fruity Pebbles 13 oz or Cap'n Crunch 14-16 oz 3 for $5
Cottonelle bath tissue 4 roll $1
There are other items that might also be good. I just listed some I thought were very good. The Cottonelle might be good for me since I have some expired $1 Q's that my store accepts.

We only go to Food 4 Less every so often but since I found out that our store takes expired coupons up to 2 or 3 years old, we may go there more often now. We have 3 other chains (2 of which are closer) that take expired Q's and in the LOND it does make a big difference. I don't know how many times we could have had a good deal and made the trip to the store worth it if only I had found out sooner that they take expireds.

Crest Hill takes expireds up to 2 or 3 years. I heard that the Burbank store takes it up to 6 months only. As I just told somebody yesterday, just call and ask the worst they can do is tell you no and you are no worse off then you were before but you have a chance to gain an opportunity. As a general rule of thumb the large chains in the area will take expireds and the small independents don't. The only exception that I have found is Meijer. The Petsmart in Joliet also takes expired coupons.
Stores in the Chicago region have been taking expireds for a long time. I found out from a friend who knew somebody that worked for Dominicks that they take expireds and that was way back in the late 70's. I found out about Jewels taking expireds back in the early 80's. Over the years there has been some fluctuation over how old most of the stores will take coupons but generally they seem to increase how old of a coupon they will accept. Most of the stores I go to have no limit.

It never hurts to ask. You California people could maybe start a new trend out there. Especially if a few of you ask at the same store.

I have asked at Ralphs, Vons, Stater Bros. and Walmart. Some said they used to accept expireds several years back, but no longer. To prove this, they usually check the expiration dates on Q's and hand them back to you if they are expired. I am thinking I should ask at a few other stores to see what they have to say. With the economy the way it is, you would think that they would readily accept expireds. :shrug7:

I'm surprised that they wouldn't let you use ones that are less then a month old. I don't transfer my expireds out of my regular file to my permanent files until the end of the month. So there have been a few occasions that I come across one or two that are expired when I am at the small independents and especially if they are less than a week expired they usually say that they will let it go. If you have pets it sounds like some of the Petsmarts take expireds even out of the Chicago region. I asked at ours and the girl that was checking me out said that they do but they aren't supposed to say anything unless they were asked.
The economy isn't the problem it's that the chains have gotten too big and I think some of them have an attitude that they are invincible and can call all the shots. They seem to have forgotten about customer service. Usually when that happens - especially when the managers are jerks - it's been my experience that those stores go out of business within 6 months to a year.
I hope you can find at least one or two stores that will let you use the expireds because I know I couldn't find good deals without it. Meijers is the one grocery chain in my region that doesn't take expireds and what really irks me is that I know they have double coupons in other regions but we don't get that either. They don't get my business because I can get better deals at the stores that do take expireds.

ITA. Now that you mentioned the "don't ask, don't tell" possibility, I am going start asking individual stores again and see what happens. :wink7:

I hope so too! :potstirring2: Thanks! You should post a wishlist in your sig with a link to the database showing what expireds you are interested in. That is, if you want to.

Although it may take me a little bit to figure that one out.
