I would say Yes, they say cvs/phamacy on the front, no where does it say manufactors coupon, but they all have a weird barcode with all zeros on one side, I'm guessing they are all going to beep at the checkout. and they also all say "limit one per customer on the back"

I see some potential for overage with this coupon: $3/1 Life Fitness product (excluding trial size). The 1-pack pain relieving patch is $1.89, which would mean $1.11 overage. These don't say that they are trial size on them. They just say, "1 large patch." You can usually get overage with CVS coupons. I haven't seen these yet, but I don't think that they'll beep. All of the CVS coupons have a bunch of 0's in the bar code. For example, we got the $5/$15 and the $25 off any transferred prescription in our fliers this week and these are the numbers under the bar codes: 4 18410 00000 6 and 4 18690 00000 0.

Howesmath,
Your right I just looked at some other cvs coupons, that I've used before that did not beep, and there all zero's also, and here I thought I knew how to read barcode
And Thanks for the Life Fitness product tip.

I tried using the $3.00 Life Fitness coupon on the 1-pack of Pain Patches and the register beeped. It said that the coupon didn't match the item, but the cashier said, "Yes it does. She bought that item." She put it in manually. Oh how I wish it wouldn't have beeped because I'm sure that not all cashiers are going to be willing to override it. Ugh!!

At my stores they are with the Thermacare heated wraps/patches. They are usually lying flat on the shelf and are hard to see. They cost $1.89, so if you look at the price tags on the shelf, you might be able to find them easier.

another possible overage??
does anyone use/know the price of glucerna products?
the booklet has a $1 off 1 shake or 2 bars.
there are insert coupons for $1.50/1 any and another for $3/2 any glucerna products.
combine the 2 and get $4 off the 2 bars or $2.50 off the shake.

I dunno if they are keeping them behind the counter or not in some stores, but yesterday 2 of the stores I was in where I didn't see them they were announcing on the (radio?) or loudspeaker or whatever it is called that these booklets were available at the pharmacy or photo counter, so it is worth asking for them at the pharmacy if you don't see them :)
Also, on these coupons they say 1 per customer...does that mean 1 per transaction, or 1 per card? In other words, can I go in this week and use 1 and then go back in a few weeks and use another? There is like a cvs every 2 blocks here where I live (how lucky am I lol) so if I took one per store I go in...I would still be leaving plenty for everyone else and have lots for me or my friends who can't get them here at HCW...but just wondering if it will be overkill if none of us can use more than one...

My CVS had them behind the counter by the photo. I grabbed a handfull and I got the energy boost gum 2.49 used 3.00/1 lifefitness coupon =.50 overage. I attempted to get 10 no go she said 1 per person. So big question how do some of you buy the whole display or 30 at a time if they only will let us use one coupon per person this may be obvious I am a newbie so it's not to me???????

We had some CVS coupon booklets recently that said 1 per customer. I used them everytime I was there until they expired. I probably used about 50 of them, especially the $3 off shaving needs, I used about 10 of those. It is 1 of each coupon per transaction. At least, that has been my expirience. As always with CVS, ymmv!

Please explain this deal. If you are you using the $3/1 Life Fitness for the $2.59 gum, you should have .41 overage. How does that become .35 OOP after an .89 cent candy bar? And why not get a regular candy bar for .65 so that you'll have a lower OOP?

It actually looks like the older couple is fighting over a stack of paper once you do find these books. On the back there is a picture of an older asian pharmacist.
Our gum is $2.49 and my husband loves the cinnamon flavor. The coupon does beep but the cashier just has to verify you bought the product and "push" it through. I haven't been able to find the pain patches and this is in NE Indiana.

Okay, open up! LOL
It appears to me that what is happening is the $3 coupon is also taking off tax. So.....
2.59 gum
.89 candy bar
.08 tax (guestimate)
=3.56
maybe when the cashier goes to scan the coupon she has to hit either taxable or non-taxable and she's hitting taxable so it's taking off 3.21 and that would leave you with .35 OOP.

You could sure do that. I just bought a bigger candy bar on clearance "fast break" b/c that's what my ds likes. Also the deal says no money back on the coupon or something like that. They are not going to give me money back so I just use the candy bar as a filler per say. the original deal I saw on the cvs thread was talking about a pain patch for 1.69 use $3/1 which is a much better overage, but my store does not carry them. So the cheapest thing they had that i could use was the gum. I hope this helps explain sorry that i wasn't clear.

im talking about the fact this cou is being adjusted to allow no overage. there is no ecb deal with this, what i meant was you can buy a pack of this gum, get it for free then if ur waiting on ECB they will print without you paying a penny.

Anointed isn't on right now to verify this: I was just assuming that she meant she was using them to trigger the ECBs from previous deals to print. When I went in the other day and wanted to get last week's $10 ECB, I "bought" the clearanced H&S- even though it was free, paying the tax got the desired ECB to print. Like I said, I am not speaking for her, just explaining how I read it.

OK, I see.
But I think that even if you buy the gum only, it needs to be adjusted, which means it's YMMV because they might not allow the coupon to be used at all.
My tissue example above came to $3.03 before the coupon. The cashier tried a bunch of times, and finally made it go thru by adjusting the coupon to $2.99 (which is still higher than the $2.49 price of the gum, but I wasn't about to question the weird CVS math). Anyway, it came out free, so the point is that the coupon does adjust for tax, it seems.

The registers at CVS will let your balance go negative if you give them your CVS coupons and ECB's first and then your mf coupons. I often have my balance go negative and then the taxes bring it back up so that the total is positive. However, if they ring in a CVS coupon or an ECB last, the register won't let your balance go negative. It will only let it go to $0.00 and they will adjust the CVS coupon or ECB down to whatever it needs to be to make the balance $0.00. This method doesn't work if your last mf coupon is a free coupon or exceeds the amount of the item purchased. To remedy this, make sure that one of these coupons is not your last coupon in your stack. Otherwise, the register will beep and then they will adjust it down to make your balance $0.00. Today my balance was -$0.80, my taxes were $1.19 and my total OOP was $0.41. I do this all the time. Check out this thread: http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7761&page=4 and this post on how to calculate your total before getting to the register: http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/showpost.php?p=54198&postcount=88.

HTH
If the total of your coupon is equal to or less than what you spent on the items, the register won't beep. For example, if you have a coupon for $4/1 and they have this item clearanced at $2 each, you can buy 2 and the register won't beep. If you only buy one, it will beep and the cashier will adjust the coupon to $2.00. However, if you buy (3) $0.99 items and use (3) $1/1 coupons, the last coupon will beep and they will adjust it to $0.97.
This usually only applies to mf coupons, CVS coupons usually give you overage. The Life Fitness coupons in the Heart Beat Book beep, though, if you buy an item for less than the coupon. If you buy 2 items like the pp did, it won't beep because your coupon is less than the total of the 2 itmes. I use the CVS CRT coupons for $1 off any Nuprin all the time for the trial size that is $0.99 and now is clearanced to $0.74. They never beep. In fact, I have seen very few CVS coupons that beep like these Life Fitness coupons do when you buy an item for less than the coupon. I hope that this is not a new trend.

I checked both my receipts, but they don't have any subtotal listed. I don't think they ever do.
The receipt for the gum + tissue purchase says 2.99 for the coupon (the cashier adjusted it to that amount) and zero for the total.
The one for the gum + fig newtons says $3 for the coupon (normal amount), .63 for the fig newtons, and .12 for the total. I can't remember if the cashier had to do any "special" adjustment or not. I think I'll try this same transaction again and see.

Ya'll post back when you use those Life fitness coupons. I thought that 00 coupons would beep, but maybe not. Inquiring minds want to know! I don't really care so much about the overage, just the beeping thing because it's always trouble at my store... I have used them at least 10 times in the past week and NO BEEPS!! PLus I get the 51 cents overage EVERY TIME!

What is going on here? Why are most of us getting beeps and some not?
Lori, what kinds of purchases have you made? And how big were they? I think my fig newtons didn't cause a beep, so maybe food makes it go thru OK?

I tried the same purchase again: gum & fig newtons, but this time it didn't go thru. I'm still wondering why it beeps sometimes and goes thru OK other times.

A variety of stuff for the ECB promotions, usually about $30 worth so I can use the $5/30 CRT coupons. This week I used it with a couple of Robitussin and Dove Pro-Age products. Last week I even used one with a bunch of clearance stuff (Febreze Scentstories discs 1.50) and a T-Gel shampoo. I've used 3 total and they haven't ever beeped. My store has the single Life Fitness patches (1.49) but I've been too chicken to try it since I've had such luck with the gum.

i think some cvs cous are coded to beep in certain areas. like if a cvs item is .99 and the cou is $1 the register will beep to tell the cashier to price adjust. well today i used a $1 off cvs expired that i got from another area in a trade and normally expired cvs cous automatically beep but the cashier scanned it and was able to take off the whole $1 no beeps no problem tho the item i bought was .99.

this also says this coupon cannot be combined with other cvs cous. i hate when they go and put exclusions like that on the cous. this would have made a great filler. also the manager taxed me for this after using the cou when he wasn't supposed to. a cheap way to get ecb to print but i wasn't supposed to be taxed.

Oh and I have been doing the same thing as other posters. I use the $3/1 coupon on every single transaction I make at CVS. My store in town doesn't have the patches, so I've been using the gum, so it's free and like having a $.51 coupon everytime. But I'm not complaining since the gum is something I can use and enjoy chewing a couple of times every day.

I have a question for those buying the glucose monitors.
Are you buying them for yourselves? For family members? Or just to get the ECB deal?
I realize people donate things that they can purchase for free and don't need.
DH would be less than thrilled if I came home with 3 glucose monitors that we don't need/won't use, even if I did get them for free, plus $10 in ECBs. His response would be "Ya know, there are people that actually NEED those."
My dad is one. He is Type 2, and has to monitor his sugar level. If he went to CVS for the monitor because it is FAC, and there were none in stock, I think he would be pretty upset to know that people are walking out w/ 3 at a time when they have no intention of using them.
Please don't misunderstand this post. I'm all for getting great deals at CVS or any other store. Working the sales is/has been great for my family because each dollar can go farther. We are a one-income household, and stretching our money has now almost become a game. I have learned a lot from this board and its many members, and appreciate it so much! And I know DH approves of my new-found hobby.
I guess what I am asking is, at what point do we (as a group of couponers) draw the line on deals?
MrsPinecone
03-20-2007, 08:01:22 AM
Why don't you give it to your dad???
I donate them to the shelter or family services. They LOVE it, and said that they will take any that I can get. The homeless can obviously not afford to buy them, and social services keeps several on hand for elderly diabetics or moms who develop gestational diabetes.
I always pick them up when I can get them FAC. If I can help someone out by picking up the meters when I am in CVS anyway, then I am going to do it.
I don't clear shelves on a regular basis, but for stuff like this when they don't have a huge stock to begin with, I don't feel particularly bad if I get the last one.

I use a few myself - some of them have a small amount of the lancets and test strips in them. Others I donate to the local shelter/clinic who are thrilled to get them.
I have no qualms whatsoever about getting as many of these as I can, since I know they will be used by folks who need them. If I can make a few extra ECBs along the way, I will often buy additional test strips, etc for them.

I attempted to get some last night at a different CVS store in a town nearby. They were out. I asked at the pharmacy dept. They told me if not on the shelf, they don't have any. I asked for rainchecks. I followed her (shift manager I assume) to the back and waited while she checked the shelves. Followed her back to front of store. She wrote out the raincheck and put qty. 1. I was told limit 1 per person. I told her I have 3 family members with diabetes. She changed the 1 into a "2" but said that was pushing it.
I'm curious to see what my regular store will say this afternoon. They rock and shopping elsewhere made me appreciate them all the more. I fired off an e-mail to corporate today complimenting them. It's the least I could do.

They aren't a limited supply item. If you saw someone clear the shelves of them and a diabetic walk in behind them and leave empty handed, I see the point. Otherwise, they'll just restock the shelves with more and the manufacturer will just make more and send more to CVS with the hope (well founded, I'm sure) that they can sell more of the ridiculously expensive strips to be used with the monitor. I personally buy these on occasion but never bought 3....I give them to my MIL who uses them.

Hi, all- short-time lurker, first-time poster!
I am a Type 2 diabetic myself w/out health insurance, and yes, these Contours do have 10 strips included (some brands do, some don't). Five strips lasts me about 1 1/2 days, but those are 1 1/2 days that I don't have to pay for strips! These FAR or free-after-ECBs deals help me a lot, but I realize there are non-diabetics buying them, then passing them on.
So if you live in northeast Indiana & have some w/strips that you don't need, I will happily take them off your hands, if you have no one to pass them on to. (Haven't figured out yet if there's a PM system here or not..! Will do that next-)
Sorry, shameless plug... !

My mom is a nurse practitioner in a poor, rural area. She gives monitors to low income/uninsured patients. Not being wealthy herself, she relies on freebies from pharm. companies and donations to do this. I give mine to her. I'm getting 4 if they have them, even though only 3 will count toward my ecbs. The ecb's are a perk. It's not like I'm taking a monitor away from a diabetic and discarding it just to make $10 at CVS's expense. The next person in line will buy another off the shelf or get a rain check.

I guess what I am asking is, at what point do we (as a group of couponers) draw the line on deals?
I got two of them. I am a diabetic and the the strips are what costs the most. You can find great deals on monitors all the time but the strips are around 50.00 (about $1 a piece) and I cannot afford to buy them that often. I actually got two of them thinking I can use the strips. There are 10 strips in each kit. I could have gotten one more because I have another coupon but I thought I did very well with two of them so I will just be happy with the two. I can understand your point because I have inlaws and several friends that are diabetic as well. My CVS had several on the shelves both days that I went shopping there so I think that they are stocking them daily.
For me personally, I am stopping at two. If I had others to buy for or was planning on giving them away I would have gotten more.
BTW...I really admire those who give away their deals to people who really need them!

I got 2, and will think about getting more with my other 3 coupons on DH's card. I am type 2 diabetic, but when I was pregnant, I was given a meter by the diabetes clinic...it never occurred to me at the time, but I have to wonder if that wasn't donated by some nice CVS shopper. Anyway, I only test twice per week, but with the 10 free strips in each monitor, each one will get me by for 5 weeks...5 monitors (I had/have 5 coupons) will get me through almost a half a year! I will buy as many as I can get my hands on and not feel badly about it.

I contacted my local Visiting Nurse's Association. They are thrilled about getting some donated. I am certain they will give them to people who cannot afford them when they do their visitation. So that's another option. I have also given them out to every one of my friends (and their relatives/friends) who are diabetic. Those who already had a monitor now have one to keep at their work for emergency.
Now, how are we getting them free this week and which one?

Thanks everyone for replying! I am so glad to see so many people donating them. And also to see that some of you donate the strips and lancets as well.
Why don't you give it to your dad???
I'm not going to give one to my dad because he has one already, and is fortunate to have health insurance to cover some of the cost of the strips and lancets. He was given a monitor when he was diagnosed, but that brand is not covered by his insurance. He had to buy another, and it is not compatible w/ the Contour.
Anyway, just wanted to thank all of you for responding!

Got one yesterday for my neighbor who is pregnant and had the glucose test and she has gestational diabetes. She doesnt have insurance so I dont feel bad getting the glucose monitor. As a matter of fact Im seriously thinking of getting her another one for her to have at work. She started her job in January, her insurance doesnt go into effect until April 1st and she is 4 months along. Yes, very much surprise when she thought she had the flu. Insurance says "pre-exsiting" condition. Poop I say.
I have about $13 in free EBC's so Ill use that to get her some test strips.

As far as test strips go, thats the money maker for the manufacturers (and apparently the drug stores). If you really want to help someone out, do a google for the strips & give them the link. I found that strips that cost me $100 at drugstores, only cost $55 at online distributors. Didn't have to buy them myself, but if I did, that would have been the way to go.

My 2¢ worth of ranting -- whether it's the One Touch or the Ascensia coupons -- the "I went to 5 stores, got 15 monitors & rainchecks for sixty bazillion more" posts annoy me because I am a diabetic heart patient on a fixed income who spends a third of my gross income on medical care. I can't get out at the crack of dawn the morning the truck comes in to beat the greedy & feel good crowd, plus I see no point racing around buying up dozens of monitors someone else might need just for LWIG bragging rights. Buying up dozens, even hundreds, of good deals on Food/HBA products isn't going to kill anyone but this is a medical device we're discussing!!!
The strips, therefore the monitors, are not interchangeable. Seven One Touch Ultras on the shelf are of no use to someone needing an Ascensia Contour. This latest offer should have been a great deal for me -- I happen to use the Contour & intended to have my DD (I do not use loyalty cards) get me a new backup because I'm down to one functioning unit again but someone had beat her to every store in the area before she got the chance to go shopping. Get a raincheck? Fine -- as long as the diabetic doesn't actually need a new monitor. Get a raincheck? Worthless -- if the diabetic doesn't have a backup & the one they have breaks down.
A while back (Aug 2004 to be exact) that happened to me. The only monitor I had died. Great timing or so I thought. The Contours were on sale at WAG & a coupon = free, but I couldn't find a single one in the twenty something stores "near" me even though each had received 4-6 units apiece for the sale. It was too dangerous to get a raincheck & wait three days for the next shipment.
Because I wasn't in a nursing home, qualified for assistance programs or in need of a trip to the ER, my version of a new "free" monitor cost me a dr visit & bloodwork co-pay which meant not a penny left for gas & groceries that month. I'm brittle, that is, my insulin levels skyrocket/dive more often than most. I must have a monitor with me at all times. I was lucky I could get in to see the dr immediately, that I had enough for the co-pays & that I had a ride available otherwise very ugly things would have definitely happened to me & could have happened to others on the road.
Doctors, free clinics, hospitals, nursing homes & the like get free monitors to distribute from the mfrs. People who fall through the cracks financially, i.e. too much income to qualify for help yet not enough income for unplanned expenses and those with insurance (no Rx assistance for insured persons) are screwed if their monitors break and they don't already have a backup (many don't). They have to cough up the money just like I did for their "freebie". The most affordable way to get one is with a sale plus coupon. Can't very well do that when folks are snatching 'em up 3 at a time (that's all the stores here regularly stock due to the expiration dates) for a $10.00 ECB.
The first backup monitor I ever received was in the hospital after falling into a diabetic coma when I couldn't afford my strips co-pay. One day of no testing was all it took for me to slip away -- that's when we realized I was brittle. I've kept a spare monitor on hand ever since, that is, when I can get one free without wasting an entire month's gas or running up my phone bill trying to find a store that isn't already wiped out.
DD got a raincheck & my current monitor is relatively new so we are confident that she'll be able to get one before I need it this time.
Anyway -- the poor & uninsured can easily get free monitors from their medical provider without shoppers donating them, those relatively well off can afford monitors -- it's the ones who are not "officially" impoverished but, nonetheless, stuck choosing between food/utilities/medicine each month that need those coupon/rebate freebies. Just food for thought.
And -- before anyone I've offended wonders -- I do NOT have cable nor do I pay for my internet service so I'm not wasting money on "latte factor" type expenses.

After Hurricane Katrina there was an entire diabetic website devoted to trying to collect donations of monitors for the victims. I'm sure they do something like this after every big natural disaster so just an idea if you're holding onto some and not sure where to bring them.

Sorry coinpurse, but I have to respectfully disagree with you. Please don't take this as a personal attack, but I think you are your own worst enemy by your statement that you do not use any loyalty cards. I fail to understand your reasons why you wouldn't sign up for these - and at the same time this may be one reason why you are so close to the edge financially that you cannot afford a monitor as well as gas/groceries in a given month. Re-read the couponing 101 sticky thread about store loyalty cards - the store cards are essential to savings strategies.
Your other comment about refusing to get a raincheck, for something you know you will use at some point down the road, is an example of failing to understand the concept of rainchecks. Sure, it may be a small hassle and it is inconvenient that the store is out of stock when you are in. But, given your situation and the fact that this is a medical device you will need, you should ask a store manager to give you a raincheck, and to put one aside and call you when they come in. Most store managers would be happy to help a customer in your situation, they realize an action like that will make you more likely to return to buy the test strips at their store.
At the same time, I don't think your post is meant as an attack on those of us who are simply savvy shoppers, perhaps a bit more mobile than you.
I understand you don't think its right for people who will get tons of these free items just for the "Look what I got" type of posts. I think you are missing a few key points -
1. The clinics in my area where I donate these monitors do NOT get nearly as many as they need from the MFRs. Some areas of the country have more restrictive income requirements as to who can use the clinics, others are first come first served.
2. A few of these come with some sample test strips. Most of them come with a supply of few lancets. This makes it easier for those who get them at the clinic - one less item to pay for.
3. Many times, when I get these at a CVS (this thread is in the CVS forum) or elsewhere I am able to stack the MFR coupon along with a CVS coupon. I have had a number of $5/$30 CRT or $10/$50 purchase or similar CVS coupons. A glucose monitor goes a long way toward satisfying the minimum purchase requirement to use these. When I combine these with other coupons on already free stuff, I can get other stuff free as well, or make more of a future ECB profit.
4. There are other ways to get these monitors free. Quite often these can be obtained for free after rebate. If you really are having a hard time getting a backup monitor, you might consider this as an option.
5. You are right that the test strips are not interchangeable. However, this is one reason you might consider getting more than one backup brand. Then, it won't matter which strips you can get with your other coupons, etc., since you will have a meter that you can use.
6. Since this is a CVS thread, I should point out that the CVS monitors can sometimes be free, or nearly free, after ECBs or rebate. I have found the CVS test strips to be cheaper than many of the name brand models. Additionally, there are fairly often coupons out on CVS or CVS pharmacy brand products, and these will apply to the CVS pharmacy brand test strips.
Personally, I am also a diabetic, but not nearly in as serious condition as you describe. I have to test daily, and if my readings are off my doctor suggested eating or drinking something, then resting and testing again in another hour. I currently have three monitors for myself, all different kinds, all were free. I have used 5 different brand/models. In the past few years, I have purchased a large number of these monitors and donated the vast majority of them. This is not meant to be boastful, I get the satisfaction in knowing I have helped hundreds of folks at the clinic, with little expense on my part other than my time and attention.

I got 3 and plan on giving them to DH's grandma who is a diabetic and will use them. She even told me that these are "much better than what she has now". I would never buy them just to get the ECB's. She too is on a low income and can't buy things like this, so I help her out when I can!

This is exactly why I can't forsee ever purchasing one of these. I could donate it, however I would feel guilting knowing there are people going to CVS to buy these for the ECB deal who need the monitor. I personally just could not do it. No offense to those that do.
I think it's an in-store issue. In the paper it states the Item is $30, and there was a $30 coupon in the paper that week. Having 4-5 boxes in stock for the whole week, isnt going to cut it at more stores. Store Managers who are aware of in-store deals and promotions, can pre order more items and keep better stock. AND thus have more satisfied customers.
Even if regular customers "buy up" the monitors, it will be likely that they'll be gone possibly in the first day. Having a stock, say 15 boxes and putting out 5 boxes as needed seems like a viable option.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with buying monitors for ECB, yes it would be preferable for the item to be donated, since they are expensive for non-couponers, but Store Managers should still have a few boxes in the back as stock. Putting 3 boxes out for a whole store for a week of deals is ridiculous, and is certain to end up with dissapointed customers.

People do this all the time, especially with the BOGO vitamins, they think they can make $30+ by returning the free one or both without a receipt.
We now virtually have a no receipt refund policy unless they are a regular or they can give us a date and time of purchase so we can research - this is sad but true, I deal with at least 10-15 instances of this each week

Well about 2 weeks ago 2 year old got pink eye and thus spread it to the rest of my kids and then to me and then the kids got round 2. I was starting to think I was getting punished for so many good deals, since we had not been around anyone except shopping carts. (free toothpaste for the first time, free tampons, free yogurt and shaving cream for 5 cents).

Well, lets see here. I got 3 of the glucose monitors. I gave one to my SIL who is a boarderline diabetic, and plan to possibly sell the other 2 on Ebay. Hopefully some of the profit from that will go to help pay my 2 year old daughter's emergency room hospital bill from being ther 3 days this weekend for severe dehydration. We have no insurance b/c it would cost us $800 a month for the minimum coverage plan through my husband's job and my job doesn't even offer insurance. We make $2,000 a year too much for her to qualify for medicaid. Does that make me a bad person? Maybe so in some people's eyes, but then again, I do have the option of quitting work so that we would qualify for medicaid, WIC and possibly food stamps and live off the government, but I know I can work to make that money and save or make money using coupons and other deals, so I will choose to do that instead. ITA w/ the pp that it is the store's responsibility to have enough in stock. I did not count on being able to sell these to help with my daughter's hospital bill, and I do not think people should count on the stores having them in stock so they can get them for free either.

No offense taken but you've seriously erred in your analysis of my situation. Loyalty cards are not at all important here -- there are two stores (literally two store locations in an area heavy with supermarkets) & CVS with loyalty cards. Those two stores' prices are 2-3x higher with their cards than our local chain supermarkets. I'd be a fool to shop in the carded stores. For example - someone I know was bragging on a "rock bottom" price she paid for something this weekend at one of the card stores -- with card & coupon it was $1.65 OOP -- Funny, I bought the same thing on the same day with the same coupon at a non-card supermarket within view of the card store's parking lot for 69¢ OOP. This is a typical "sale" pricing difference between these stores. Just one of the reasons I don't shop at our loyalty card stores.
There's a Walgreens on practically every corner, though, and I prefer their rebate program which was made even juicer when they added the 10% bonus. I've been rolling my original money since 1999 (back when it was called receipt saver instead of easy saver) for free and cheaper than free goodies. Since the products are generally the same as the CVS deals and I have way more than enough HBA/Cleaning/OTC/etc products in my stockpile room that cost me little or nothing, I personally have no use for CVS. One of my DDs does shop at CVS (with card) occasionally which is why I sent her to seek the monitor. The only reason I sit on the edge financially is extraordinary health expenses vs a fixed income. I am not physically able to be a regular wage earner anymore. I do a bit of merchandising now & then but an hour or two (no heavy lifting) physically wipes me out for at least 24 hrs. Adding insult to injury, my investments and 401K were completely depleted years ago due to my own & my oldest DD's (uninsurable, now deceased) medical expenses.
Your other comment about refusing to get a raincheck Where did I say I refuse to get a raincheck??? In fact I noted that DD DID get a raincheck for the monitor in question. I'm sitting here next to a substantial pile of rainchecks from my preferred grocery stores & Walgreens. Rainchecks that don't expire are absolutely my best friends for stretching my meager food/gas/discretionary funds precisely because I am not as mobile as the majority of shoppers. My negative raincheck comment had to do with it being a worthless scrap of paper to someone who needed the monitor immediately.
At the same time, I don't think your post is meant as an attack on those of us who are simply savvy shoppersCorrect, not an attack on savvy shoppers -- silly thought seeing as how my children learned how to cut on the lines 30 odd years ago with coupons, my youngest DD earned her way to a PhD with coupons (worked in a clearing house starting part time in HS), a third generation is now learning to shop the sales with coupons, and I've had to explain numerous times over the years to many a stunned guest that free didn't mean stolen (a couple of my children used to give tours of "mom didn't pay for that or that, and THIS is the everything was free room" as they dramatically threw open the door to the stockpile/minimart room)!! :hysterical: Close but not exactly, more like a pennies on the dollar room, they liked the effect of their wording better. Rotten little beasties.
I've been a hard core couponer & rebate shopper since 1970 when I married the original spoiled rich kid who had to have his big boy toys...lots of them...speedboats, racecars, snowmobiles. motorcycles, etc...toys I couldn't really enjoy with him since I stayed pg at the beginning for several years. When the last was born I had this age lineup -- 0, 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5. I didn't need to coupon back then but I enjoyed the challenge, annoying hubby's snobby father (hubby liked that part too as well as my thriftiness meant more money for him to spend on his stuff) & the private time with my own thoughts away from the constant dawn to nightfall "M_O_M_M_Y" it provided. I occasionally took a break from supershopping but after divorcing him (having tons of money does not equal happiness), being widowed by my second husband (added four more children to my brood - his ex had vanished from their lives when the youngest was an infant) & especially after I became disabled, my long established penny pinching ways saved me from the certain loss of independence.
If you really are having a hard time getting a backup monitor, you might consider this as an option. My point on this was not every one can afford to buy a monitor & wait on the rebate. So the coupon deals make getting a backup simple IF they can snag one before a shopper who has no personal need for one gets them all. There are those in much more dire straights than I am when it comes to financial matters who also don't qualify for clinics & assistance.
However, this is one reason you might consider getting more than one backup brand...The Contour can download/upload my readings history, a very important use when you're brittle. While other name brands also have that capacity, the software my doc uses requires the Contour. My strips & lancets are covered through mail order as is a new monitor every 3-4 years (all with a co-pay but still cheaper than store brands which are NOT covered)...I was not a diabetic when I chose to forego Medicare Part B until age 65. If I had taken it all my supplies would be covered 100% but I had children still on my federal group plan at the time and the duplicate coverage for just me was too expensive relative to my sudden drastic drop in income.
Personally, I am also a diabetic, but not nearly in as serious condition as you describe. I have to test daily, and if my readings are off my doctor suggested eating or drinking something, then resting and testing again in another hour. Fairly standard for most diabetics and from my point of view very lucky -- diabetes runs in my family, both sides. Most of them test once daily -- I have to test before & after every time I eat - including snacks - in addition to morning and bedtime. My grandchildren have been/are being taught early on how to recognize when I'm in trouble, insert the strips & "stab Nana". My family had one other brittle during my lifetime, he died of complications when he was 40. I was 50 before I developed it and might not have at all if not for problems caused by multiple ab surgeries, two of which involved my pancreas & "dinged" the islets. Being brittle is not something I would wish on anyone - my fingertips are calloused & numb, my forearms & thighs look like they belong to a junkie as I have always bruised easily so even the micro lancets leave their mark for days.

Simply put, after all my babbling, I just see the monitors as medical devices that are not that heavily stocked and should not be used to better a deal.

If my two cents are worth anything...
It is kind of a good thing that the glucose monitors were out all last week. That lets people who need them to get multiple rainchecks for them, which makes them more accessible over the long term.
I also feel that Bayer knew what they were doing by offering the monitors as part of the $10 ECB deal on the same week as they release coupons making them free. They limited the number that they released into the market, and the combination makes for questionable distribution ethics. Had they not offered them on the $10 ECB, they would not have been moneymakers and there would have been more availability to those who use them.
So my suggestion is that anyone who feels they did not get fair access to the monitors, because of the overly-attractive promotion to non-diabetics/caretakers, should write both CVS and Bayer.

I got 3 monitors last week, and I would have mailed one to you, had I known. My MIL and mother are both diabetic, so that was 2, and my MIL is a therapist who is giving the 3rd to a low income client of hers. We had no problem getting them. I went to 3 different stores and bought 1 at each store, figuring this was more than fair, and each time I went they had them in stock (went to 1 on Sunday, 1 on Tues or Wed. and 1 on Thursday). So, I didn't even rush out at the crack of dawn on Sunday to get them. My first trip was Sunday at 10am. I didn't have any guilt whatsoever on getting 3 of them, since they were so easy to get. I guess the shortage was probably regional, I dunno. It must be frustrating to deal with a shortage when you really need one.

What I don't understand is why someone would only have 1 back-up of something that is necessary for life for them. I have 20 shampoos, and I don't NEED those. If I NEEDED something, I would have 30 of them. Especially when there are coupons that make them FREE.
I would not get 1 raincheck. I would get 30. I would keep one of those monitors everywhere, the car, the house, my dd's house, etc. . . . and I would have a few extras stockpiled.

Does anyone have scanned images of the CVS HeartBeat booklet, and other brochures that have coupons in them? I like to see what they look like since I have so little luck finding them at the pharmacy counters.

I can't really scan mine....I gave all my heartbeat booklets away to my sis in law, but they have just the coupons alone as a pamphlet too that are in the same place as the booklet and it's less bulky, so i prefer those for myself.
I've found them in two of the CVSs I've been to recently and I have probably been to at least a dozen diff. ones in the past month. They are in a light blue box in both places I've found them. The box is about 8-12 inches tall and the size of the books are a little bit bigger than a paperback book (tho not as thick). I would just look around the pharmacy (I've found them both times on the counter) for a blue box! Hope that helps!!!

Quick question....is the $3 Life Fitness coupon still giving people fits, esp. when they use it on the gum? I finally figured out where this gum is (duh!) and would really like to try it this week with the BOGO, however, I'm a leetle afraid my cashiers won't have a clue how to adjust it if it doesn't want to cooperate. I don't care about getting the overage, just free would be great!

ok, you lay the coupon on the counter, and you say- i think this coupon may beep- that's for you to check that i bought these 2 fine packs of gum (lay gum on counter). then when it DOES beep you say- you can either press accept to say that i did buy them, or you can rekey the amount, and then press accept.
the idea here is that the gum is not the problem, the coupon is not the problem, and the beep is not the problem. the machine just wants you to check- that's all. the machine justs likes to know that everything is ok.

Try telling them to enter it manually. They may say the gum doesn't qualify - just show them that the cpn says ANY LF product. They may say it's a trial size - tell them it doesn't say that on the gum. If they persist, tell them to enter the cpn amount for $2.49.

Did you buy items listed on the coupons? Yes.
Did you present number of these coupons corresponding to the number of items you bought, i.e. 3 LF items for 3 LF coupons, etc.? Yes.
I'd give your coupons to the cashier as usual, wouldn't make them uptight from the very beginning by warning about possible problems with the coupons. What I wouldn't take is their meeker statement they couldn't do it. If they'd have trouble to enter it, they have management and other more knowlegeable employees to figure it out.

I was wondering that myself. I actually ended up buying 4 of the Omega Chews to kick it up for a $4/20. So the $2.50/$10 was no problem. I did have a problem with the HB coupon, but the cashier put it through manually with no problem or prompting. I also bought the $.49 ice cream sprinkles to push me over on the $4/$20.

FYI, the manager at one of my stores refused to take it saying the gum was a trial size. I called CS when I got home and they said they only make 1 size of gum, the 12 ct and it isn't a trial size. If it beeped and the cashier gave me trouble to ask them to adjust the price and if they still refused have them call CS or call myself. They also said they would have the district manager speak with the manager.

They paid me $0.51 cents to take 2 packs of gum tonight! I made a point of telling my cashier that I had heard that the Life Fitness coupon might beep and she says, "beep?" (See, I knew they wouldn't have a clue). And of course it did. But she never questioned whether or not I should be able to use it on the gum. Yay! She called the manager to come up and apparently he couldn't be bothered. So finally she just entered it manually and I got the full $3 on it! I think I'm going to try and go ahead and get some more this week with the rest of my deals b/c it was NOT the hassle I thought it would be.

Also, if I bought 2 items at $9.99 and then a small item would they give me the small item for free or would I be able to still get the 2nd $9.99 vitamin free like I had planned?

I will put it like this.... I was able to use the $12.99 stroller that was free after the huggies deal towards the $50. (I had a backup plan and was going to add items if it hadn't of worked... it did, so I just used the items on the next order) I've also been able to use b1g1f items (LF gum, etc) to up the limit.
I once asked a shift manager about it and her response was that it is a "CVS" coupon, (since b1g1f shows on the receipt as a "cvs coupon" )therefore it falls under the "precoupon total" line.
Again it's all a YMMV thing. The stores around here it works at. Others I'm not sure. It all depends on how "cranky" your cashiers are I guess. I've never really had any issues with my stores about these kinds of things.

did the register beep for anything? were these the only items you had in the order? I love that gum, and free is even better, but I stopped getting it when the $3 heartbeat coupons started beeping. Dh and I both used the LF Q tonight to get some more free gum. It beeped and I told the girl (different one than the other day) that for some reason it always beeps. So she tried it twice more (seemed like that was a requirement) and then entered it manually. This with the shift supervisor standing right there, no problem. The cashier did say something to the shift supervisor about having to sign something tomorrow b/c of this coupon (having to enter it manually), so I kind of felt bad. I mean, it's not the cashier's fault that it beeps, so why should it have to go on their record or whatever? I think I may call it good on the free gum for this week, though!

Yep it's NOT a trial size, so the $3 LF coupon IS valid for the gum. Whether or not you get the "overage" is YMMV, but you can CERTAINLY get the gum free. (I've been doing it since February)
I just counted... I have 72 packs of this gum in a tupperware container on my kitchen counter. DH goes through 2-3 packs a weekend. (He works Sat, Sun, & Mon 5pm-5:30am) And we have a few packs in the truck. I can confidently say we've gotten over 100 packs of gum free.

Now $3.00. Use one $3/1 Life Fitness Q from HB booklet, and it is free! Make sure the cashier knows it is 50% off. They are still ringing at $5.99. Since the ad states "ALL Life Fitness Vitamins and Supplements are BOGO" shouldn't they still be BOGO even at 50% off, so get 2 for $3.00? Then with the $3 Heartbeat Q they would both be free. Is that not correct?

There are packs of gum - the flat kind where you push the hard pellet of gum through foil on the back - for $2.49. And they are covered under the BOGO this week, so 2 for free. FYI, the coupon will beep since it is for $3 and the gum is less. However, if you politely point out that the coupon say "up to $3" it's usually not a problem to get them to adjust the price and use the coupon. Some will even just give you the entire $3, so be prepared with a small item to add to your total just in case.

This is the Life Fitness Coupon GingerClip is talking about. Also, make sure when they scan this coupon, it doesn't add $3.00 instead of taking off $3.00. Several people have reported that happening.
There is a benefiber coupon in the booklet that can be used this week along with a manf. coupon for the ecb deal.

There are several that I have been using this week to get my totals up so i can use $4/20 or $10/50, and some apply to extra buck deals this week.
Keep in mind each of the HB coupons say lim 1 so you can only use 1 of each in a transaction.
The life fitness coupons are $3. use them on the gum $2.49 or the pain patches $1.89. may get overage, may just get a freebie. either way, it helps get your total up without spending $. Most people use one of these with every transaction. rumor has it, the pain patches work great!
The contour blood glucose meter is $9.99 this week. Have them adjust the hb coupon to $9.99. makes it free. if you dont need it, donate it. again this brings up your total so you can use a $/$ coupon and the savings from the coupon will apply only to what you really need.
The deal this week that is spend $10 get $10 in eb that includes benefiber is another one I used this week. chewable benefiber tabs are like $6.89 use the $2 mfr coupon and the $1 hb coupon makes them $3.89. incorporate that into one of your transactions. In the next one do it again so it becomes a bigger money maker.
The nutritional science vitamins are buy 1 get 1 50% off this week. there is a $2 hb coupon for those and some high value mfr coupons as well, so you can get some dirt cheap vitamins this week. again, bringing up your total so you can use the coupons that take money off your transactions.
each week, these seem to help us earn EB'S so if you find more, make sure you grab em!

I see I only answered one of your questions. They have coupons for $2/$10 cvs Brand products, and $3 off any life fitness item (FREE GUM!!!) that I use the most, great for bumping your total to use those $/$$ coupons. Also, you can use 1 CVS coupon and 1 MFG coupon on each item, so a last week, we could use the $2 benefiber mfg coupon and $1 benefiber cvs coupon from the heartbeat to save $3 per benefiber. They have a barcode and scan just like regular coupons.

It only happens on one of my 2 cards, and not every time.
When it happens, the cashier & manager apparently can't do anything about it (can't adjust it or input it manually).
I wonder what it means. Has my card been "flagged"? Are they on to us (even though it's totally legit)?

At a store that always gives me problems I told them I didnt want the gum after they started getting rude. At my regular store, I bought the gum and then the assistant manager refunded the amount to me in cash. I guess it just depends on your store and how they want to handle it. The coupon is still valid though b/c the manager at the store called on it before and told everyone to refund the coupon amount.

The cashier and pharmacist at my CVS in Southern Illinois didn't know anything about a Heartbeat booklet! Maybe they will have them when the new store they are building opens.

I have never seen the Hearbeat books at my store. I think I will ask about it next time. Does anyone know if the new ones came out yet?

Has anyone seen the new booklet, yet?
I'm very sad - no more free LF gum. Since the coupons from the last booklet expired, I would have thought that the new books would be out...

I was excited that I actually found some today at a CVS that I haven't been to before. And then I opened it up. The coupons expired on 6/30/07. But at least I know where I should be able to find one when the new ones come out.

I don't think there are new ones. I think the rumor started when a manager said new ones would be out in June. He may have meant that he was getting a new shipment of the old booklets, or he could have been completely misinformed (it's been known to happen). I searched Ebay and I couldn't find anything. IME, if it's not on Ebay, it doesn't exist. LOL

Then where else would one find $2/10 CVS coupons? The only one I can think of is from the Heartbeat booklet. I don't think people can trade CRTs here.
