I love wind chimes & thought I would try my hand at making some. Anyone ever make their own? Have any good links to share?

Oh, I love them, too! Got several, and some that need to be restrung. Believe me, it is not easy (at least its not for me). I've one long set that cost me over $60, it is tuned. Each chime is a note and they together almost play music.

The string rots in the sun and weather, and I've tried to put them back together with lightweight fishing line. My main problem is that I can't find anywhere to hang them up to work on them, without putting up a hook in the ceiling or something. I just haven't put a lot of thinking into it, so there's probably a way that is easy and I haven't found it yet.

I can remember the first time I ever heard and saw windchimes. I was a kid, playing with the girl living next door. We went to her grandmother's house, and on the patio was a little wind chime, tinging and dinging away. I was absolutely taken with it, never having even known such a thing existed.

I'd like to have several on the front and on the back. The harmonies from the large deep tones along with the higher tings and tongs from the smaller is so pretty.

Walmart has some on clearance in the Garden Shop, $19 for some big ones, and $3 for small ones. The clearance stuff is not obvious, you have to look for it.

I don't have a link, but just wanted to say that I freecycled a broken metal bed to a lady in my old town, she wanted to use it for chimes.

I got a windchime for Christmas. It was from Lowes, and every chime is a different color. It's big, and it's so pretty. I love multicolored things, and now it's hanging in my foyer and we all ring it whenever we walk by. I couldn't stand for it to be outdoors.

I have bought my wife 3 different sizes of wind chimes, and a daughter gave her another. All are hung on the front porch and are very plesant to sit and listen to. The largest one had to be moved so that it didn't receive so much wind. It would have probablly have kept the neighbors awake at night if we had not moved it!

I heard a bamboo one last year & want one. My neighbor grows bamboo so am thinking about asking if can have one when he trims them this year.

Also thought about 1 larger type tube hung with small chain with some sort of clacker inside & of course a paddle at the bottom.

Here is a link to a site (http://store.sohodecor.com/wind-chimes.html)that is pretty neat. Not a craft site but looking at what is for sell gives some insight to some great ideas.
