Was this the reason for the survey on local store names awhile back?

One issue I discovered on the "Add" function — the pop-up windows for the help links can sometimes be hidden above the top edge of the browser's window. Here's what I did that caused it:
Do a search that produces many results
Scroll down a little to see more of the results (doesn't take much)
Click "Add" button
Click one of the help links, e.g. "Source"
Top of the pop-up (including the "X" (close) link is hidden. See attached jpg
Yes, scrolling up reveals the top, but it may initially confuse some users. Some of the smaller pop-ups can open completely out of view.

Please don't make the help pop-ups float up and down like the Add pop-up does. I really dislike that feature on web sites — I might be scrolling so I can view something else for a moment before filling in the form. It would be better if the top of the help pop up was initially at the same vertical position as the Add pop-up.

Conversely, if part of a help pop-up disappears because the user starts scrolling the screen, that's not a problem — they'll see what's happening and it will be intuitively obvious how to get it back.

Also, can the "Categories" selection box be larger (show more at a time)? That would make it a little easier to scroll through. Currently it's a little too claustrophobic for me. As it is, I think some users will have problems selecting multiple categories (accidentally removing or adding choices). Perhaps that list could be on a larger pop-up instead? Then it could even be a list of checkboxes rather than a multi-select scrolling list.

One other peeve — please change "Aldi's" to "ALDI". A few of the other names with apostrophes need to be tweeked too :biggrin:

When trying to update my wish list I get the following pop up:

We were unable to create your forum post due to an internal error. Please try again later or contact an admin.

ETA: Under value could use a $2/2

Under "Description," that is a link. So where is says "Muir Glen, any" click on that and it will take you to where the coupon is.

I will see if we can get those windows to open up differently on your screen, might not be possible but will see. The list for stores is based off the forums, so I might need to change the forum names if there is an error, if you would like to send me a PM with a list of the ones that wrong I would be happy to tweek them.

Did you try again later? Could be the server was busy or something. Ill test it out today and see if there is something going on.

I will also see about making value not required, because you are right sometimes they don't have an "up to" value.

If you look at the instructional text at the top of both your have list and wish list there is a link Coupon Database (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/userlists) that is a directory of members have and wish lists (as people create them they will be added here)

There is also a permanant link in the instructional text that you can include in your signature. I do not suggest that you use the link for your forum post (when you click the "update post" button it will create a brand new thread each time you click it and delete your old thread) so unless you want to change the link in your signature use your permanant link in signatures and whereever. I second the above question and also want to let you know that the date modified for all of us shows 8/29 which is August not September which would be 9/29. Might be confusing later.
It is also telling me that it can't update post due to an internal error.

Currently you can do that when you update your post by clicking the update post button, here you can put in your introductory text about doubles, stores you shop at etc. I will make a note about seeing if we can add that to your permanant links as well. Might be in our next version though.

You will need to search the database for each one and add it. If there is something that is NOT in the database....add it. I get 99% of the insert coupons in there each week (and I am behind this week so please don't add the 9/28 inserts yet please so I don't have to merge a bunch of coupons I will have those in I hope by tonight, I am behind for obvious reasons) But if you have different values please go ahead and add them in, this is what makes the database so unique is that members add thier coupons in.

Which date are you talking about? So I know what to fix.

The database is currently getting heavily used right now because it is new everyone is in there playing with it. So try again in a bit to submit your post. Remember it will delete any old have or wish list thread you had in those forums and create a new one...so don't update till you have your stuff transfered over or have a saved copy.

I think the format of the new database is great and now everyone can use the same format for their wish/have lists. My question is how do you sort by description? I'm trying to import my wish/have list and it's difficult because it doesn't appear to let me sort what's already in the database by Product/description.:shrug7:

Also the only search fields that show up for me are the description and amount, only the titles for the other fields (store, expiration date, etc) show up.

Can the insert date be optional?

There is no sort feature...sorry. It did not seem to work well with the new formatting.

Yes as you begin typing the search results should start to show. Try a basic search like "Kraft Cheese" and let me know what you get.

Also not sure about your other problems, could you tell me what browser you are using as well as perhaps attach a screenshot if you know how?

Yes the insert date and type are still there for coupons that are insert coupons, they are at the end of the description field and look like this - 09-07-08 SS or whathave you....

Not at all, each person can choose which features they wish to use. If you want to just trade in the trading forums and not via the trade tab you can still do that. You can trade just via the trade tab or you can do both. Its just another tool to use should you choose to use it. Some will, I imagine be all over it, while others, not so much. Thats OK.

For other users sake I think it is pretty important to know what insert the coupons came from. If you have lets say a different value of a coupon that is already in the coupon database and and the expiration date is the same you can safely assume that the insert information is the same as well and use that insert date and type. If however you have a coupon that is not in the database at all (and make sure it is not expired)....you can enter the insert info as 00-00-00 Unknown and then if anyone ever knows what insert it came from they can report it and let us know what it is.:wavehi: (I just did a test entry and that is allowed.)

On my wish list I have also have q's that are hypothetical. I may not have seen them, but if they exist they are included in my "wishes". How can I put something like that in my wish list?

For example, winetags. They change a lot and I may be interested in just any that are out there. Am I limited to only what is in the database? I do the same thing with basic items like bread, flour, sugar, butter, etc. Some people get frees or homemailers for these & I may not have any idea they exist. I understand that I could search the database constantly, but that's not really a good use of my time. These things are mostly things I would want in a train and not neccesarily go looking for.

We get such crummy inserts here that I rarely know everything that is available. I also don't want to limit the coupons I might receive by limiting their value and my wishlist could get outrageously long if I include every value I'd be willing to receive.

These are just some issues I see with it. The concept of finding people trade with easier is nice.

Here's a screenshot of what I get in the database now...typing into the description field does NOTHING for me :(

I do get an error icon in the bottom left hand of my window...I attached a screenshot of that error, as well.

I'm using IE 6.0...I wonder if there's something wrong with my settings? I restored them to defaults, and it still didn't work.

I can see if we can get that additonal information to show on the trades tab. I agree with you, that is a bit confusing to remember which coupon you are trading for etc.

Currently we are bringing single coupon trades via the trade tab, if we get enough positive feedback on this we will be building out a multiple trade feature to allow you to select multiple coupons from one member and trade in one dialog box. But before we build that out we want to make sure that the trade tab feature is a tool that members like and are using. I plan to re-evaluate this in about a months time.

I imagine the part where it has date modified is to help us determine if someones list is current. Right now it is showing an August date.

ETA: Just an FYI, also if you go here Coupon Database (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/userlist.php) & click on anyone's have or wish list link nothing shows up. However, if you click on the both link a window pops up.

First let me start with I was hoping to have instructions done today, and they are. But I sent them to a buddy to proofread for me and she has not gotten them back to me. She mentioned hope to do it while baby was asleep...all us moms know what that is like so I am hoping to have them posted tomarow.

Now to answer questions

Ok, so I've been playing around, adding coupons to my wishlist and havelist. So far, I like it! Now my question.

You will need to sort your list(s) as needed by expiration date and delete the expired ones from time to time.

The expiration by month will show you for example If you choose 3 Month it wll show you all coupons that expired within the last 3 months PLUS current coupons. So if you can use expired coupons up to 3 months you can search for both current and expired within that time frame. I choose the most commonly heard how expired that some folks can use in 1, 3, and 6 months expired. Anyone that can use more than that should choose Any or Is. (this is explained better in my instructions...I hope, so once they get up I hope that will be explained better.)

I know you are working on the instructions, and I am grateful for everything you do to make this better, but I just have one question. If I am browsing someones have list, how do I contact them for a trade? I only seen this option if I have the item they have in my wishlist, but I don't see anything I can click to pm them from their havelist. Thanks again.. Bobbie

I can see more trading in my future now with this new feature instead of many of my coupons going to waste. :)

I tried that with about 4 different coupons with the same result. I uncheck the "have" box and it still asks me to enter a value between 1 and 100.

Also if I end up with duplicates of something in my keep list, and try to delete one by checking the box next to it, it deletes all of the same coupon.

I'm having the same problem....whenever I have a coupon with an 11/08/2008 expiration date, it is automatically changing it to 10/31/2008 when I submit it. I have noticed that there are now multiple posts with the same coupon because of this issue.

When I try to view anyone's wish list or have list, I keep getting this error:

I know you are working on the instructions, and I am grateful for everything you do to make this better, but I just have one question. If I am browsing someones have list, how do I contact them for a trade? I only seen this option if I have the item they have in my wishlist, but I don't see anything I can click to pm them from their havelist. Thanks again.. Bobbie

I can see more trading in my future now with this new feature instead of many of my coupons going to waste. :)

Can you post a link of someones have list so that I know if you are talking about thier have list post or thier have list permanate link?

Either way really you can go to your PM box and click send new message and enter in the members username to start a trade with them.

The problem that I’m having is that I’m not always able to use the correct expiration date when entering coupons. A lot of mine have different expiration dates than the ones already in the database even though they’re from the same insert dates. I’ve been trying to catch and report them when they show up as something different than what I entered. I’m not sure if this is a new problem or not; I never tried entering coupons before the new database.

I have reported this bug to our developer. Just report any ones that are wonky and we will get them fixed ASAP. I see that you reported some already and I tried to edit them and the exp dates are not changing over for me either.

I tried that with about 4 different coupons with the same result. I uncheck the "have" box and it still asks me to enter a value between 1 and 100.

Also if I end up with duplicates of something in my keep list, and try to delete one by checking the box next to it, it deletes all of the same coupon.
I have reported this as well to developer. You should be able to uncheck the box when adding and I am not sure why you cant. Issue with the removing duplicates from keep list has been reported as well.

I'm having the same problem....whenever I have a coupon with an 11/08/2008 expiration date, it is automatically changing it to 10/31/2008 when I submit it. I have noticed that there are now multiple posts with the same coupon because of this issue.

See above...its a known bug. Just report any coupons that have the wrong exp date and we will fix them ASAP

The links to permanante have and wish lists are not working...this too has been reported. Instead use the Both link and haves are on one tab and wishes are on another tab till we get that fixed.

I can't add coupons to the database when I use Firefox 2 on my laptop (resolution 1024x768). The window pops up, but the bottom of it is cut off. When I scroll to try to see the bottom (and click the Submit button), the pop up window floats over the base window. The stuff on the base window scrolls, but the pop up window adjusts so that the top of it is always visible.... which means the bottom of it is never visible.

The Search by Store dropdown is incredibly slow. It took the system 30 seconds to scroll down to Target.

This new coupon database is AWESOME!!! I am definitely motivated to use it!! I do have one question - is there a way to filter to see only the items that a potential trader has to offer? For example, if they have initiated the trade, is there an easy way to see the other things that they have listed in the database?

I'm having the same problem that nate&natsmommy was having. When I open the page, I see the box for the coupon description, and a box for the value, and then no other boxes. There are buttons for add and reset, and then the page is blank.
If I type in the box, nothing happens, and I'm stuck.. I can't do anything.

I just entered a Rimmel cosmetic product coupon. Mine was dated 3/31/09. I added it to the database, and chose the option to have it added to my haves list. Once I entered it, I saw it immediately add to the one that was already there, dated 12/31/08.

any one getting error messages when in the DB...I am and not sure if it is me or the DB.

I need to post the following as well...

The supported browsers for the coupon database are: IE 6&7&8, Firefox 2&3, Safari 3 and derivatives like iPhone, and Opera 9.5.

As far as coupons being deleted when you have the same item in there twice, that is really related to the other problem (browser), in that you should never be able to have the same coupon more than once in a given list, you should get a message that you already have that coupon in your list. So if you have a coupon in twice...and delete it and it deletes them both for some reason, you will just need to go back and add it in just once.

Currently you can add those to your introductory text for forum posts. I will have to think about a way to maybe add them to the coupon database....

And my other problem about it not doing anything when I clicked on "3 months" was because the particular brand I was looking for didn't have any coupons that had expired in the past 3 months.
So that fixes that! lol
I LOVE the coupon database!
I can't believe you aren't charging us for this service!

The way you entered is OK....however it is my own pet peeve when coupons are started with "Save" or "Any" I prefer that they start with the brand of a product. In this case I would have entered it

"Rice-A-Roni or Pasta Roni Side Dishes, Any (10) and Save On Any Chicken, Turkey, or Beef Item"

And I will probably edit it to say that... LOL

Now if I could just get the DB to load so I can add that one to my wishlist!:biggrin:

How do you add coupons to your wish list if they are not listed in the database and you can't assign a value or source to it, because although you want them, you aren't exactly sure what source they could come from and for what $/˘ amounts. If you want to add general items to your wishlist like say

BFTE
Any Cereal coupons
Milk

right now I suggest that you add those to your introductory text to your forum post. Thats the best suggestion I can think of right now.

I was thinking just add a little notes section to the top or bottom of everyone's wish/have list where they could put things like where they shop, if they can use IP, if stores double, pampers points, BTFE, coke points, etc.

Anyway, could someone clarify about the database/trading forum?

I knew it was from the Parade and it did show up in the database, but doesn't say that it's from the Parade.

Am I missing something? Is there a tab that I am just not seeing? Help, quick! I have my list ready, but I can't find all my Q's, and I gotta go shopping soon.

That new trading features are in addition to the trading forums. We are not getting rid of them because we realize that not everyone will want to use the coupon database for all of thier trading so we are giving you guys more options. You can choose to use them or not. You can use to trade in the trading forums as well or not. Totally up to you. I think right now as we transition to more and more people trading via the database you will see more people deciding to do both. Only time will tell what most people will do.

That being said we will at some point add introductory text to the permanate links for have and wish lists. I have a small laundry list of new features that I need to talk with Julie about, and that is on my list.

And being an IT guy, who's been on a lot of forums - I'm really rather shocked that I'm finding this all so difficult to navigate.

Hopefully someone can help point me in the right direction.

Hey Mike, first things first this is a site run by not so tech saavy moms LOL so bear with us, we are not perfect.

To begin with you need to join the trader in training group - there is a link in our footer (I am sure you know where that is:biggrin:) under useful links that will point you on how to join the trader group (its under contruction but there is a link to the thread) once you read the trading rules, agree to them, and put in your request to join the trader in training group and are approved...you will then be able to start trading. This thread is about our new coupon database and as such there is a feature available to the trader in training and trader group where you can use the coupon database to make a have and wish list. You can read the instructions for the coupon database as one of the other links in our footer.

Hope that helps but should you have questions just feel free to ask!

Remember the trading features of the coupon database are only for members of our trader and trader in training usergroups.

I have made 1 small trade so far and I am in the process of finalizing another. It looks like it’s going to work very well for single coupon trades; multiple coupon trades however are going to be a little tougher. I believe the best way to handle multiples right now is to conduct correspondence for all coupons in the trade under one tab and manually remove the other coupons once the trade is complete, but because we are all very new to this new system organizing larger trades may be awkward at first.

If so, am I limited to updating once every 24 hours because of the 24 hour bumping rule? Is it possible to stop it from bumping automatically so that I can update as often as needed?

Help! I made a trade and we both hit accept, so I went to my havelist to delete those items so that no one else would ask me for them, and it deleted my whole conversation for the trade! I already have the address, but I would still liked to have had the info stay on there. Did I do this wrong? Is there another way to take the items off my havelist without deleting the trade conversation?

Once you have mailed your end of the trade you submit the trade as complete by clicking the complete tab, and you will be given the option then of removing the coupons from your have list without removing your correspondence with the other trader. Once both traders have submitted their trade as complete the complete and comment tabs will be replaced with feedback and archive. After you receive your trade you leave feedback by selecting the feedback tab, then you can save the trade correspondence and details but still remove it from your list by selecting archive tab.

Your have list is not technically bumped....the old one is deleted and a new one is created. So provided that you don't update it every 5 min. you should be OK updatng your post a few times a day. I don't really consider that bumping.

Instead of removing the coupon from your list change the note on it to say something like "Pending Trade". Only remove the coupon when the trade is complete.

This is correct...thanks for explaining that. Like I said above you can put a note the coupons that are pending trade. And those are reflected in your have lists or wish lists.

I am anxiously awaiting the notification system to let you know you have pending trades and trade comments.

With more than one page, I have to scroll back up to the top to get to the next page. This would be more annoying to me personally if I had 7+ pages to scroll through.

Possibly on the next version, I will put that on my list. In the meantime if you can try this trick....click the Home key on your keyboard to be taken to the top of the page (this is what I do) or if you scroll to see the HCW footer there is a link to "Top".

The match ups in the trade tab are a drop down menu and so if there are more than one person that matches you can click the drop down and you can see how many they have (or priority) and thier feedback score. Choose who matches you best.

Is there a way to enable the Description bar in the "add/edit section" of your lists so that you can see your stuff in ascending or descending order as you add/edit it? All the other bars will ascend/descend when clicked on except for that one. Thanks so much for all your hard work. :BigHand:

I just wanted to note something I noticed. Not a problem, per se, but I noticed this. I saw someone had something on their wishlist that I had on my wishlist. Many times it'll say High, but when I look at their lists it says Medium. So they are different for some reason. I think all the ones I saw said high for me, and not sure how many are different on their actual lists. Also, I have tried to iniate trades, but haven't finished one yet. I would like it if there was a way we could click to PM them, right off there. Also, I've noticed it doesn't alert us when we have a new message for tradign on the new database. Anyway, it can send us a PM or some kind of way to let us know when we have a message from someone on there? Once you have mailed your end of the trade you submit the trade as complete by clicking the complete tab, and you will be given the option then of removing the coupons from your have list without removing your correspondence with the other trader. Once both traders have submitted their trade as complete the complete and comment tabs will be replaced with feedback and archive. After you receive your trade you leave feedback by selecting the feedback tab, then you can save the trade correspondence and details but still remove it from your list by selecting archive tab.

Where is the complete tab? I see nothing of that sort. Also, I previously saw Archive, and now I don't see that either.

When someone first initiates a trade there will be three tabs at the bottom, Accept, Comment, and Cancel. Once both traders have selected the Accept tab the tabs at the bottom will become, Complete, Comment, and Cancel. Once both traders have selected the Complete tab after mailing their end of the trade the tabs shown at the bottom will be, Feedback, Archive, Cancel. If there are only 2 tabs at the bottom which I am assuming are; Comment and Cancel; the other trader has not selected the appropriate tab to proceed to the next step yet and the tabs will not change until they do. This is based solely on what I have experienced so far.

The one trade I did do thru it the other trader wanted a few different things I had but couldn't get into my wish list. Don't know why this is true.

I have uploaded the 10-05-08 Inserts this evening, I am working on categorizing them right now. So feel free to add anything that I may have missed now.

I just wanted to note something I noticed. Not a problem, per se, but I noticed this. I saw someone had something on their wishlist that I had on my wishlist. Many times it'll say High, but when I look at their lists it says Medium. So they are different for some reason. I think all the ones I saw said high for me, and not sure how many are different on their actual lists. Also, I have tried to iniate trades, but haven't finished one yet. I would like it if there was a way we could click to PM them, right off there. Also, I've noticed it doesn't alert us when we have a new message for tradign on the new database. Anyway, it can send us a PM or some kind of way to let us know when we have a message from someone on there? If you are looking at your wish list and you have items that are marked priority High that is your own setting. Other people can set the priority on thier own wish list based on thier own needs (high, medium, low, none)

It is in the instruction guide that the notification system is still being worked on. But I sent a email today to put a fire under thier butts about it. LOL So there WILL be a notification system to let you know when you have new trades.

I am not sure why you are getting that message. I know when I first try it sometimes I get that message and I click the OK button and wait a second and it loads OK for me. I think that happens when the DB is being heavily used.

As I said above we are working on a notification system to let you know when a new trade comes in. Not sure why you could not get into your wishlist....can you get into it now OK?

Is there a way to enable the Description bar in the "add/edit section" of your own lists so that you can see your stuff in ascending or descending order as you add/edit it? All the other bars will ascend/descend when clicked on except for that one. Thanks so much for all your hard work. :BigHand:

Still wondering if Admin can enable the ascend/descend feature on the Description bar on your own list. I see that the option is available when viewing other traders lists, but I just think it would also be helpful when I am adding to my own wish/have/keep list. :smile:

A message board will appear under the Active Trades column beside the coupon that you are enquiring about in the other trader’s incoming or outgoing trade list, depending on which their end will be. This message board will give your member name and say Recipient Initiated or Sender Initiated along with any message you may have submitted. The trader will have 3 tabs at the bottom of the message board giving them the option of accepting the trade, canceling the trade or to just submit a reply message. You should be able to view all options and messages they submit in your own message board beside the coupon on your end. If the other trader routinely checks their possible trade lists they will see the pending trade. If there is no response within a reasonable amount of time, a PM probably wouldn’t hurt.

I think this is quite possibly the best invention since sliced bread. I have made and received more trade offers than I would have on the old system and have completed or in the process of completing a few more. It has definitely increased my activity. The only dire request I have is to enable the system to better handle multiple trades with one person. After I had finalized one offer, and sent addy's, I realized that I was trading for other Qs with the same person. Almost cost me 2 stamps! LOL

I'm having problems updating my WL. I can add things, but when I hit "Update Post" I get "We are unable to create your forum post due to an internal error. Please try again later or contact an admin" I've tried several times since this wonderful tool was put out. Other than that.....All I can say is You Guys are sooooooo AWESOME!!

I don't know why some people get that message...really I don't. I know that I get it from time to time when the database is full of people. (I look at whos online and where they are and can see lots of you in there...)

This also seems to happen from time to time when you post your list grouped by category. Since some coupons are categorized by multiple categories it seems to have a hard time posting the post grouped this way when the DB is really busy. My work around has been to choose another way to group my post. Of course you could be having a problem posting grouped by other ways too...LMK and I can see if I can help (no promises but I can try)

I absolutly love, love the new database! The trading feature is fantastic and I'm sure I'll be doing plenty more trades.

I just have one small request. I use my keyboard more than my mouse, so I always hit the enter key on my keyboard rather than clicking on "enter" with my mouse.....so

when I add to my have, or keep lists.....I put in the quantity and I always hit the enter key (by habit) and I realize I have to use the mouse to click on the "submit" key. Is it possible to have both these options? It would make entering so much easier I think.

Help! I made a trade and we both hit accept, so I went to my havelist to delete those items so that no one else would ask me for them, and it deleted my whole conversation for the trade! I already have the address, but I would still liked to have had the info stay on there. Did I do this wrong? Is there another way to take the items off my havelist without deleting the trade conversation?This part concerns me too. Once a trade is pending I would like a way to notify others so that they aren't seeking trades for that coupon.. since I cant delete them without deleting the trade conversation for right now I am going back and adding a note to that coupon in my have list that a trade is pending. It isn't glaringly obvious but it is there. ??

Ok, sorry to keep having issues, but....now I did another trade and this time I thought I did everything I was supoosed to.....we both hit accept and then I hit complete because I mailed it and it asked if I wanted to take those off my havelist. I did take them off, because I thought this was the proper way to take them off instead of deleting them like I did the first time. But, the other trader has now lost all of the info on her end. It is still on my end, but I guess somehow it removed it for her when I removed them from my havelist. Is anyone else experiencing this? I just want to make sure I am doing this right!

I did a trade on the database. I saw in the dialog box that both of us have hit accept. It still does not say COMPLETE on the box it just says COMMENT and CANCEL. I don't know what to do to put it in the archive.

It would be great to be able to navigate it on the keyboard and use "enter". I use a laptop, so I try not to use the mouse very much, since it takes more effort than a traditional mouse. I love being able to do it all without going back & forth between the mouse and the keyboard

This is because they've chosen to limit the search results to 20 to those not logged in. If you are logged in, you have full access to the database. :smile:

I use IE 7. I usually use it without add-ons becaue of my dial up, but when I use it this way, I can't see the database. It gives me a pop up box that says something I can't spell or remember :)
I then have to go and open up the IE w/addons that ALWAYS gives me trouble... is there a way I can view it without having the addons, or is there a SPECIFIC add on that I can turn on to view it? Can someone tell me what addon is used?

The implementation does not match the description. You get one page of results when you aren't logged in, not 20 matches. If your # per page is set at 10, all you get is one page of 10. If your # per page is set at 100, you get to see 100.

I think that some special characters are messing up coupon additions. I see a lot of mangled coupons in the DB for Nestle products. I think it's because the second e in Nestle has an accent over it so when people c/p to the Add Coupon form, it gets copied as a special character the form can't handle.

The insert date info is now wrapped into the Description. For example, "Kraft Mayo With Olive Oil Or Kraft Good Seasons Dressing Made With Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Any - 10-05-08 SS". The insert is 10-05-08 SmartSource

try this...click tab until you are sort of highlighting the submit button, then hit enter on your computer. This works for me OK, not sure if it will work for everyone.

Adding a note that is pending is the correct way to do it.

Depending on who initiated the trade you will not see the COMPLETE button until the other traded completes first.

The accept button will appear when the other trader accepts first.

Yes, people will need to remember not to enter special charachters. And as DB admin we will need to fix them.

Click cancel. And fill in the comment box (or not) and click submit. Then you should be able to archive it.

I have received one incoming and one outgoing trade and am curious why the traders name that initiated the trade comment, is different from the trader that is showing the coupon availability next to it on the same line. Are these traders in training piggy backing off of mods or??? Weirder yet is that a potential trade for today is showing up by itelf for one item, and piggy backing off of another trader for a second item. Any thoughts or comments on this?

You should be able to uncheck the box that asks you to add the coupon to your have list as well when adding a new coupon to the database. Then you will not be required to add anything.

The name you see next to (to the left of) the trade dialog box should be a choice of names in a drop down menu. As long as one of those members is the person that you are conversating with we are OK. There is no piggybacking or anything like that with other mods going on.

When adding to my haves list, I do not always get a message when I am adding a coupon that I already have on there. Instead of telling me it is already on my list, it adds it again. Then, when I go to my haves list, I have duplicate entries (same exact Q, same expiration, same source/date, etc.). When I edit one listing to the right number, it edits both of them. Then, when I delete one, it deletes both of them.

Yes, I am (post here (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/1217659-post61.html)). Mine is 1024x768.

Seasanddollar: As a temporary work around, either use IE or if you have to use Firefox, once you've entered the number for your Have List, hit tab four times (#1 gets you to the Have List note field, #2 gets you to Keep List check box, #3 gets you to Wish List check box, and #4 gets you to the Submit button) and then hit the Enter key.

I too have the problem of not seeing the Submit button when I'm adding, but when I'm doing database work, I just move the bottom Windows taskbar thingie (with the start button and all my open windows) over to the right hand side and change my Viewbar to not have my bookmark bar visible. Kinda a pain to keep switching things back and forth, but it works.

Also, I just thought to do this, but on my laptop, if I click Control and the minus key (or the plus key) it's a quick way to change the size of stuff on my screen and then change it back quickly when I'm done.

just type in the name of the product your looking for.

It will then show all the availible coupons for that product.

I think the best way to explain this is...

This is what i do.

When looking at my grocery ad I find the products i need/want

So i make a list, of such items

Then type each item into the database and find out if there is a coupon for it.

If so i copy and paste what coupon into a thread in the trade forum.

Hi osumoose,

Sounds like maybe you don't have Javascript enabled in your browser or perhaps your anti-virus program is some how interfering. A few things to try:

1) make sure you are using IE6 or later or Firefox 2 or later and that javascript is enabled. On Firefox, it is under Edit->Preferences->Content.
On IE, it is more complicated, but under Tools->Internet Options->Security->Internet->Custom level... (down towards the bottom under Scripting, Active scripting should be enabled).

2) if that looks good and it still doesn't work - try disabling or dialing down your AV software at least temporarily to identify it as the potential problem.

3) sometimes it helps to force reload your browser cache. Once you have the Coupon Database (http://www.hotcouponworld.com/forums/coupon.php) loaded, hold down the Shift key and click the Reload/Refresh button again to force your browser to reload everything.

4) if none of that works, please provide as much information as you can on what version of windows you are running, service pack level, exact browser versions, etc. would be helpful as well as any error messages (if any) that display when you see the problem.

You will be presented with the archive button when you either Cancel a trade or when all parties have left feedback and the trade is fully done.

Ok, so I have completed a few trades with the database now. A few of them have been multiple coupon trades.
Let me say, that this database is MUCH more efficient in many ways, than the forum trading. This is really going to set a precedent for forum trading within all websites, I'm sure.
That said...

Here are several situations that are problematic in my eyes:

1)I'm finding that when I offer a trade to someone, and they don't respond, after a while, my only option is to cancel the trade or comment, neither of which will remove it from my trades tab, it will sit there indefinitely until the other trader chooses to do something with it. I would like to be able to 'delete' it from my trades tab.

2)I offer a coupon to bugface. She cancels, saying she's got enough of the coupon. Now, I'm left with Comment or Archive.
In my history page, there is no way to delete these archived responses, so after a while, I'm going to have a ton of archived cancelled messages.
I'd like a way to cancel a message, whether or not the recipient has responded yet, and not have to archive it. If I must archive it, can we add a delete option from the archive area?

3)I've completed a trade, and both traders have hit complete, and I've left feedback. Is it going to sit in my trade section until the other trader has done the same?

4)I have a coupon for flat earth, a peelie that I've found. I'd love to have a way to offer it to someone that has flat earth tearpad coupons listed in their wishlist.
Perhaps a "broader" matching, so it's the name of the coupon & amount, vs the exact one. Or, at least a way to search everyone's wishlist for "flat earth" so I can find a trader looking for that coupon, and offer it to them.

I just looked at a handful of posts in the wish list forum. More often than not, people specified a product, and didn't care what source or expiration (and usually not even the value).

As the db is now, they'll have to do a manual search every few days for each product name, adding into their wish list new, specific coupons that they find, and removing ones that are nearing or past expiration.

Semi-related suggestion: When entering a value that is "$ off x qty," it would be helpful if the "add" form opened up separate boxes for the amount and quantity, similar to the way it opens the "valid up to $" box for "buy x get y" and "free" options. That would enable you to give more specific error messages for just the portion that has a problem (for example, I couldn't tell initially that amounts below $1 require the leading zero). Separating the fields might make it easier to enter (and validate) wildcards if/when you add that feature.

Bug: When I tried to enter a coupon, checking only the "Wish List" box, the form gives the quantity error ("You must specify the quantity of the coupon you have available (between 1 and 100)"), even though there's no place to put it.

I've been trying to access some wishlists - a few different ones on two different computers at different times of the day and I keep getting this message 'Asyncronous list failed.' I guess I better google 'asyncronous' to find out what it means. If nothing else I'll have learned a new word :smile:

I also agree this is the best thing since sliced bread! I can't wait until the multiple trade feature is up and working. I have done a few trades, and it is confusing and time consuming when trying to do multiples.

On another note, has the issue with the trade conversations being deleted been resolved? I noticed that I had not completed and archived a trade, and then it wasn't there the next time that I looked. If the other trader deletes the item from their h/l, will it make the trade disappear? If so, is it possible to add an announcement post to let all members know not to do this? (I have also noticed that if the item is added back, the trade conversation comes back.)

Once you click cancel and submit on the cancel box you are presented with the archive button, so you should be able to 'delete' it from your trades tab.

Yes it will untill they leave feedback. Once the notification system is in place (and I do realize that we NEED that there just seems to be a hangup on it) I think you will find more people leaving feedback.)

I beleive that this will be done with the multiple trading feature when that is done.

The lists are sorted at first by expiration date so you can get rid of expireds (if you do) or if there is a hot coupon on your keep list you will see it and use it before it expires :). You can sort your lists alphabetically or just about any other way needed (source, type, etc)

This tab is showing you matches to your lists (incoming and outgoing tabs within this tab, one shows matches to your have list and one shows matches to your wish list) if your page is showing 15 coupons, that is because there are only 15 matches.

the database is designed for specific coupon trading and if you wish to be more general you can always post an ISO in the trading forums. However perhaps we can build a search feature of some sort for members wish/have lists that would allow you to manually search others lists or something....but the design is specific coupon trading.
As the db is now, they'll have to do a manual search every few days for each product name, adding into their wish list new, specific coupons that they find, and removing ones that are nearing or past expiration.
We sort of expect members to search now and then for new coupons to add to thier wish lists that is why the database search results are sorted by newest first. So if you say choose winetag you will see the newest winetags added and you can add them to your wish list if they peak your interest. As far as removing items from your lists...its done pretty quickly with a few clicks. We don't have the lists purge expireds automatically because some people can use expired coupons and some members trade them. So it is up to each member to update thier lists as needed.

if you forget the leading zero (and this is written in the instructions that it needs a leading zero) the DB will give you an error. adding the box as suggested is a lot of work for something that once you learn to add the leading zero is not an issue again. Once you start adding coupons, you get the hang of it and can add coupons pretty fast (at least I have)

Someone told me that as well...I am sending email to our guy this am that will address some of these issues. I don't know why some people can view the lists ok and some can not. Could be a browser issue.

If a member deletes a coupon from thier list it the conversation will disapear. the dialog is tacked onto the coupon information. people will need to remember not to remove coupons from thier lists untill the trade is done I guess.

Lots of other little examples...my concern about this is 1) people are not checking for the coupon before adding it and 2) when I put a coupon on my w/l or h/l it will not be found because people are adding version 2 of the coupon to their list...does that make sense? I guess I just wish there was a way to check for duplicate coupons or make sure they weren't duplicates before being added.

If you could report the coupons with misspellings or duplicates, it would be appreciated. There is a little dropdown box to the left of the coupon when you do a DB search. If you select "Report", you can report what's wrong with the coupon and it will get fixed.

There are only a couple admin who can make changes to the DB, but they can merge duplicate coupons. I think that if Person A has coupon 1 on their list and Person B has coupon 2 and then the admin merge the coupons, that the system will then recognize coupon 1 and coupon 2 being the same.

I second the request that people do searches before adding coupons. We've had a LOT of duplicates added. The folks approving/merging/correcting coupons are going nuts trying to keep up.

Has anyone reported this bug yet? I am working on a trade in the database and I don't know why it is doing it, but 5 coupons showed up on my havelist that were part of a trade on my wishlist. Because of this, I received a request for these coupons and now have to inform the requestor that I don't have them and that it is a glitch somewhere. It clearly states in the comments section on my havelist "from wishlist" (I didn't put the comment there at all, it just showed up) and so I had to move this to my keeplist even though I haven't even received those coupons from another trade yet. Weird! Also, only of my trades has initiated and prompted for feedback while the others just say cancel or comment. Any thoughts? TIA. :smile:

That report choice is a huge help and we are working at getting everything fixed as soon as we can. But if you do click on the report key, please be sure that you tell us what the problem is. I'm seeing a huge amount of reported entries but when I go to fix them, no problem is being reported at all. I think in some cases it's just a matter of accidentally hitting the Report choice instead of the Havelist choice right below it.

Are these items on your have list? Could you have accidentally added them to your have list instead of your wishlist? I did that myself and added coupons I had for trade to my keep list.

And to reiterate what the other database mods have said...PLEASE PLEASE search the database (leave of ALL puctuation when searching) before adding. And if there is a typo or duplicate entry report the coupon/s and let us know. In the report box you are asked to change the coupon to how it should be, so change the typo's if there are any. If the coupon is a duplicate change the description to somehow read "Duplicate". Additionaly if there is a dead link change the description of the coupon in the report dialog box to somehow let us know "Dead Link"

Thanks everyone. There are a lot of new entries that need to be verified and fixed and we are working hard on doing that. There is a team of 5-6 people that do this and we all take days. As more and more people use the database and get used to how it all works the work load will decrease for us all but it takes our members searching and adding missing coupons and reporting bad entries.

It was definitely on my wishlist because it had given me a list of several users that had them and the quantity they had. I even PM'd 4 of these people for a possible trade and only had 1 respond that they had them available to trade, so I initiated a trade with them for 5 of the coupons. Hmmm.

As for the feedback, I have only initiated one trade and even on my end it shows either comment or cancel. :shrug7:

It is important for people to remember, unless they change the viewing amount, they will only see the first 10 matches when searching for a specific coupon. If, in the case of a kelloggs coupon, they don't use the drop down menu, or view the second page, they will not see a coupon that could be there.

Also, another place I'm finding duplicates, is with coupons for items that have an apostraphe (') Such as Kellogg's vs Kelloggs. If you search Kellogg's, you won't find a coupon that is put in as Kelloggs. I find it easier to search "kellogg" or even leave that out if possible, and search the other terms. This is leading to lots of errors in the database.

The bigger problem, with misspellings or duplicates, is if someone has
kraft carmels in their wishlist/havelist, and it is removed as a duplicate because kraft caramels is listed, then it is also removed from their lists. In this event, the person might not notice that a coupon they have/want has been removed, thus no trade is possible.

Lastly, when reporting a coupon, I've found that typing "duplicate" and removing the actual coupon information is easiest, although the database requires 10 letters in the box, so adding a ~ after it works fine.


Thank you QOTHMO5 for responding to each of my issues. I am having tons of fun with the database, and look forward to the changes/notifications to not only increase trades, but get more people using the system.

One thing I must stress, is the need for traders to check their trades tab as often as they would their pm's as long as the notification system is not working.

One question...once the notification system is in place, will it notify for those that are already there (I have multiple trades initiated, but the other trader obviously hasn't checked the system) or will it only notify for the trades initiated once the system is in place?

The % is their feedback percentage. If they have fb, all positives, it will say 100%. If they have no fb yet, it will say 0%. If they have a negative in there somewhere, the % will be less than 100.

As Heidi said, when duplicates are found and reported, we don't simply delete the duplicates, we search for the matching entry and then merge them together so that the software WILL NOT remove that reported duplicate from someone's wish, keep or havelist.

I am having a problem with the search this morning. The screen comes up as normal except there are no coupons listed and when I type in a q it is not listing anything. The only two boxes that are showing up are the description and value. And when I click on the other tabs it takes me to the bottom of the page. Is this something that is wrong with my computer?

I had a trade with someone, but the trade mysteriously disappeared from my trading tabs. I have no clue who it was with and there were numerous coupons I was to send. I archive everything, and it isn't in there. (It looks like a couple non finalized trades disappeared.) We discussed nothing through pm, so I really have no way to find out what our trade involved. I don't want this to turn in to a bad trade.

I had a trade with someone, but the trade mysteriously disappeared from my trading tabs. I have no clue who it was with and there were numerous coupons I was to send. I archive everything, and it isn't in there. (It looks like a couple non finalized trades disappeared.) We discussed nothing through pm, so I really have no way to find out what our trade involved. I don't want this to turn in to a bad trade.

I wish this did help. I kind of figured it out late last night that may have been what happened. Problem is, I have no clue what item the trade request was under, so I don't know what to add back. I don't remember what I deleted either!

I can rarely use the database. I keep getting the computer encountered an error message. When I can get in the database and I try to see a user's WL or HL I get an asycronous (sp?) request failed error message. Today I got a notification that I have 5 trade requests. Only one person's trade offer showed and it said that I was currently trading for the coupons with them. I sent them a message back and am now unable to use the DB. I don't remember the user's name, so I can't contact them.

I plan on opting out of trading here because this new system simply does not work for me and I am very, very sad about that. Is there any way to access the old system just to see where I can find coupons and what coupons are available?

I've been checking out the updates to the database, and I am wondering if there is a way to enter in ALL the coupons from an insert. For example, can I somehow enter "10/5 smart source" or do I need to individually enter each q from that insert? Does anyone know?

Selecting "Any" will get you all expired and non-expired coupons. Selecting "Is" will get you all expired coupons.

I guess I wasn't clear in my question...I want to update my have and keep list, and I'm looking for an easy way to do that. I'd rather type in "10/19 insert" than type in each individual coupon from that insert.

Yep, we are not sure how to tell people that the store field is for store only coupons and not where you found it. Its in the instructions...but no one ever reads em.

When we verify we just have to assume that the coupon is a store only coupon. So if you notice something in there marked as a store coupon, please feel free to report it and let us know.

For most manufacturers' coupons, choose "Any" (valid at any store).

Choose a particular store when your coupon is valid only at that store (coupon specifically says "valid only at [store name]" or similar). If that store is not in the drop-down list, please select one of the "Other" store categories (e.g., "Other Grocery Stores").

We did a purge and are only keeping expired coupons in the coupon database up to a year (most coupons, some coupons like printables will be deleted once they actually expire)

Is there any way to opt out of trading even if you have a wishlist/havelist?
Like for instance we will be moving shortly and I don't need to worry about pending trades being ignored while I am not able to trade, but don't want to have to take down my entire wishlist/havelist just because I'm unavailable for a week....although if thats my only choice I will.

I think in order to see the have, wish and trade tabs you have to be a member of the Trader-In-Training Group (Please correct me if I'm wrong Heidi.. :wavehi:) You can read the rules and join here:

Hi! I just started using the Coupon database for my have/wish list. When you agree on a trade with someone, is there a way to mark the trade complete? Also, there is an archive section but I don't see an archive button -- is there one?

After both parties have clicked 'Accept', you will see a button to 'Complete' the trade. When you have mailed your portion, mark the trade complete. If you are sending coupons from your have list, this will automatically prompt you to reduce the number of coupons available.

Once you have both completed the trade, you will see buttons for 'Feedback' and 'Archive'. When you receive your end, of course, leave feedback. When you are finished with the trade, archive will move it to the history section.

Currently we are bringing single coupon trades via the trade tab, if we get enough positive feedback on this we will be building out a multiple trade feature to allow you to select multiple coupons from one member and trade in one dialog box. But before we build that out we want to make sure that the trade tab feature is a tool that members like and are using. I plan to re-evaluate this in about a months time.

HI! Is this feature on the radar? Almost every trade I do is multiple coupons and this would be so nice to have. Also, any advice on the best way to trade multiple coupons in the meantime?

You need to be a member of the trader or trader in training usergroup in order to get the trading features. If you need further assistance on how to do that please LMK.:wavehi:

Right now there is not an easy way for me personally to add new store fields. I have send an email to Jeff to see if he can set me up so that I can add things in like gas stations as well as edit out some stores that do not even accept coupons like Dollar tree :) In the meantime you can enter then as Other National Chain Stores and note the gas station name in the description field.

It does happen that you try to trade and the other person does not respond for whatever reason. I have had it happen to me as well. Right now there is not a way to turn off your trades while on vacation. I would hate to have to have you remove your have and wish lists. But if someone contacts you and you do not respond when you get back you can just contact them and tell them that you are sorry for not getting back to them sooner but you were in the process of moving. I think traders will understand that. I will put it on my to-do list to be able to mark yourself as not trading at the time or something.

It is on the radar still...have no fear but like I said I want to give the single trading a good month to test out and see how everyone likes it and get all the feedback. In the meantime I find that PM's are best for multiple trades (for me) however I have done a few via the DB but I have to remember to mark the other coupons as pending or something in my havelist notes.

You do not need to do anything. Nothing anymore at HCW requires a post count to be able to have access to any of our features. If a coupon in the database is a printable the description will be a hyperlink to click and print. Remember though that we do not control the printable coupons, we just provide the information on them. I would be happy to provide a picture of a printable in the coupon database if you let me know you need one so you know what I am talking about.

If you are not using the "keeplist" feature - I would select them all and move them there temporarily. That way it is off the radar for anyone initiating a trade with you. It takes two minutes to do your whole list and two to put them all back once you're all moved in and ready to trade again. :smile:

Help!! I can't use the database AT ALL. I posted on here before that I couldn't use it. The page comes up and all the tabs the box for the description and the value are there but when I type in a coupon nothing happens. When I click on a tab it just takes me to the bottom of the page. (I am logged in) I am using Firefox. (I tried using internet explorer but it still didn't work) Thanks for your help!

Trades disspeared....I didn't see anyone else post about this...but I had several trades going on for the same item and they all vanished, we had exchanged addresses and all that stuff, but the fact that we were trading is not their, it just shows who has the item...the trades aren't in my past trades or whatever either.

Anyway, it would be a very helpful feature for me...and probably others.

I agree this would be very helpful! In the meantime, though, don't forget about your browser's Find feature (Ctrl+F for most). It's not as flexible as the database search, but it sure helps! :smile:

You should be able to click on the "Description" bar after the page has been given enough time to load (give it a few seconds or minutes) and then it will automatically ascend/descend alphabetically. From there you can scroll to find the coupons that you are looking for. HTH. :smile:

I was in the middle of doing a trade with another member and I realised that the coupon (catalina) I was trading she wouldnt be able to use. I went and took a look at my list to see if Id entered the coupon correctly and put that it was a catalina for this particular store. All the infor is correct in my have list, but in the trades (potential + curent?) section it doesnt list that it is a catalina, or only redemable at this particular store.

This is probably just a noob mistake, and Im sure well both be more careful to check out trades closer in the future, but I wonder if there is a way to have a fuller description in the trade section so that it doesnt happen to someone else?

I hope this all makes sense....its late and I really should be sleeping!!!

A quick fix for now would be to add a comment in the "notes" section of your coupon stating that it is "store specific for such and such store." HTH. :smile:

I am putting in my notes to perhaps see if we can do a printer friendly page for the tabs and/or a download of your lists into perhaps something like excel.

What I have been doing myself is copying my list in my tab and pasting into excel and reformatting to my needs. While I do not print it off I do download the excel onto my Palm, but I would think you could print it from excel as well? (Assuming that you have excel)

Printer friendly would be great! I adjusted the page setup to 50% & margins to 0.3" which made the font small but will try adjusting again for larger print.
Don't have Excel but Open Office is a free program very similiar to Word and has a database creator. Will try that too.

I'd also like to know this.

If you used the icon "Dead Deal" for this post, the mods are going to think that the deal is dead and delete it, perhaps without reading it. Most other people will skip over it, because it is a sign that the deal is over and done with and nothing more needs to be said about it. Perhaps you could change the icon to SOS or something and people would rush over to help. Of course, you may have changed this to Dead Deal if you got the answer from somewhere else. In which case, ignore me.:giggle2::giggle2:

The insert date format is MM-DD-YY insert

Example 11-09-08 SS

The expiration date uses the back slash / as is 12/31/2008

Perhaps that is the problem that you used slashes instead of dashes.

Actually, / is a forward slash, because the top is pointing "forward" in the direction we write. \ is a back slash.

I am new to this site and am interested in using the database. I do not plan to trade coupons but am interested in the "keep" function of the trader part of the database. How can I best use the database and is it necessary for me to become a trader in training just so I can access this part of the database(can I do well enough with just the basic search feature)

i just had to post... since joining, i've been waiting in the wings on trading, not sure of how to get started and a bit nervous to try it, honestly. so today i started using the c.d., setting up my wants and haves, getting familiar with how it works and navigating my way around.

i am simply amazed with how great this thing is! the kicker was going to the potential/actual trades tab, and you can see who has the coupons you want! how cool is that??

i just want to say thank you to whomever keeps the c.d. neat and fresh and easy to use. i love it, and can't wait to get all my info into my wants/haves so i can give trading a go.

i see the database link at the top but its just pulling up a list of all the coupons and when they came out, etc. where is the lists of haves/wants?

You're not slow, you're just looking for features that are only available to the members in our Trading user group.

I'm glad someone posted this...I've been meaning to post how much I love it to, but have too busy updating my have list:giggle2:

I love having the ability to initiate trades in there. It is so wonderful to see who has the coupons you are looking for without having to do a search or look through lots of posts.

Is anyone else having as much trouble as I am getting the hang of the Database trade center. :shrug7:

I can not seem to learn how to use it for a trade. I think I had 1 successful trade off it. And I think that was pure luck.

Is there a database trade for dummies that I can read.

two things:

i have same items on BOTH have and wishlist (BTFE, Paypal, etc). when i edit the note field on one list, it overwrites the other.


i cannot figure out how to initiate a trade for same coupon with more than 1 trader at the same time. is that not possible? thanks.

I haven't seen anyone mention the new notifications - I love getting the heads-up that something's going on with my database trades!

A couple weeks ago when I added something to my wishlist it would say you already have that on your wishlist--that was really nice. Now when I duplicate an item it doesn't warn me. Is this from some change or can it be put back in?

The notification system is not a pop-up, and there is no email sent, so you do have to visit the site to see it. If you look near the top right of the screen, under where it says "Welcome, Soandso," there is a notification section. When nothing new is happening, it reads "Private Messages: Unread 0, Total xxx." However, when you have new incoming or outgoing trade actions (or new PMs or new visitor messages, etc), this is replaced with a "Notifications" dropdown that you can click on to see what's new.

It seems to me that this comes and goes - perhaps based on which coupon? I'm not really sure... But I have seen it work for some coupons as recently as yesterday.
